When my girls were born their grandparents were already named so it was never an issue.
When we became grandparents it took us ages to decide but in the end we are Oma & Opa and the others are Grandma & Grandpa.
We talked it over with the other grandparents, came up with some great names between us, but when the time came the names sort of just happened.

I let all decide their own names :)
my mum wanted granny, but ds1 calls her nanny, my dad is pop , ils are nunna and nunnu.
My gps are poppa, mummynanny ( as I call her nanny) and poppa. And Nanna and pop.
My step gp was always Oma...
But I had another Nan and a gran too....

I think it's up to the Grandparents. My FIL and his wife are Pops and Gran Rose.
My mum is Ma Ma, her partner is Ba and my Dad is Poppy. My MIL is Nana.
Woah, thats alot of grandparents when I read it all back. why be "traditional" today's society is most definatly not.

My in-laws were already decided 19 years before my DS lol so MIL is Nunu and FIL is Pa. DS is my fathers first grandchild and he avoided answering my questions of what he wanted to be called....he had no name til my DS's first Xmas and he signed the card "love Grandad" so that was that!! I always wanted DS to have a "Nana" cos I remember mine as a child being such a warm cuddly loving woman.....so I asked stepMIL if she would like to be Nana or NanaPam, her response "just Pam is fine" huh ok!!! Makes me sad because my mother passed away many years ago and has no grandparent name and my MIL has recently passed.....so my DS has Grandad, Pa and "just Pam" hmmm :(

I let them choose.
FIL is Pop MIL is Nanna.
My dad is Granddad and mum is Oma (they're divorced, not that would change anything)
I think FIL did want Granddad, I mentioned my dad was already granddad, perhaps it'd get confusing. I didn't tell him "No", though...
He suits Pop better though :)

Our parents picked their own.
Our kids have Poppy, Nanny & Poppy B, Nanny K & Granddad.

We have two nana's and a pop (other poppa died many years ago). DH's parents initially wanted to be grandma and grandpa but until recently we also had a granny that DD saw weekly and we didn't want her to get confused between a great-grandmother and a grandmother so we picked nana and pop for the grandparents and granny for Great grandmother. The in laws understood this and it was also easier for DD to say these terms with her speech issues and she needed the consistency with marks of respect.
-
We let them choose since DD was the first grandchild on both sides anyway.
What about Grandma and GrandDAD for DH's parents. That's what I have and it's still traditional.
Oh and my uncle and auntie are Granny and Pop to their grandkids.

We asked all the grandparents before DS1 was born. MIL and FIL said they didn't care, my mum asked to be Granny Liz and my dad became Grandad Hugh. Fast forward a few years and MIL has decided she also wants to be Granny Liz, as that is what her other grandchildren call her. We have said no  too late to be changing her mind now, so she will be known by granny (surname) forever. I think it's too complex to have two grandparents with the same name.
That said I had 2 grans and 2 papas but each was distinguished by their surname, which worked well.

It's up to the individual. I have a nan and pop m and nab and pop p.
My little girl calls my grandparents these names. She calls my parents nanna and grumpy and dh's nan and pa. She also has a grandma (dh's grandma).
-
We have a big family
We have a pa and Nanna ( fil and step mil) DHs dad
A pa Alex and nani (step fil and mil) DHs mum
A nanny and pa MY mum
And a pa MY dad
And our great grandparents ( my grandparents)
Are Nanna and pa ....and Nanna Ruby and Pa Bob ......he's yet to meet the rest so nothing lol
-
My parent were already Nanna/Nan & Grandad way before DD was born - like 23 years so no change for them.
However DD is the first grandchild for DH's parents and MIL wanted to be called Mum Mum and FIL Poppa as this is what DH and his brother called MIL's parents. I put my foot down on the Mum Mum thing as that is just wrong in my eyes as I am Mum. So it took her a good 12 months to choose to be called Gramma and FIL generally gets Pa.

We had a similar argument when I was pregnant with my first - however it wasn't between my husband and I. When my daughter was born my father wasn't even 50 and he was still running marathons! My mother, just a scootch past 45 and my mother in law not even 50 yet. My siblings and I have always had an ongoing joke that we call my Dad "Joffa"...so it got to "Joffy"as his "grandpa" name. My Mum is "Gránge"because her name is Ange and then I wanted something equally as cool for my MIL. However, she wanted to be Nanna. I said I don't have a problem if she wants to be Granny my DH still has his Nanna and she is very much a part of our daughters life...know as NANNA, two Nannas on the same side when one is actually a great Anna isj ust confusing EVEN FOR ME!!!
Beside the point we have nothing to do with MIL now so my kids don't even know her let alone her pet name...her only alternative to being called Nanna was being called PRincess....
Can't pick ém can you!!! hahaha
Good luck babe

Oh man where to begin! Growing up I had a grandma & grandad my mums parents, pop & (first name) my dads dad & wife and narnee my dads mum who died before I was born & ma my mum grandma.
We are still figuring out way every1 is/will be called by DS... atm we have pretty much decided on grandma/granny and grandpa/pa (first name) for my mum & partner. Nanny & grandpa (first name) for DF parents and my niece & nephew already call my dad & partner poppy & nanna so we will stick with that for them.
It does makes life difficult when u have my mum, DF mum & SIL (who is pg) mum ALL HAVING THE SAME FIRST NAME! SIL family normally use nanna as well :wall: so we could end up with 3 Nanny/nanna is 1 extended family...
My fav nickname in our family was 1 of my cousins deciding pops name was boydie....cos he had a bird.... poor bloke went from being called grandfather by the older cousins to pop cos grandfather was too stuffy (blame my dad 4 that 1) to boydie in the space of 10 years lol
