Uh honey - do you mean that you are diluting the formula? Cos it says on the tin that you aren't supposed to differ from the formula and water ratio - it can make bubs sick. I'd say make up less formula and then if still thirsty, give a sippy cup of water instead - but I would never give less scoops to water, simply because what it says on the tin :hug::

DS was having about 650ml milk at 12 months, 3x 150ml, mid morn, arvo and about 5am which use to settle him back to sleep, and a larger 200ml before bed. The peadiatrican informed me that DS should only be getting about 500ml milk, so we dropped one of the day feeds. She also warned me that DS was waking and wanting milk as comfort and not to give him it. I disregarded this advice as it was easier to give him milk and then he would resettle himself rater than the screaming match that would follow if he did not get it. Then we reasched a point where he was not resettling and 5 am was now the new start to our day and he started waking earlier for milk. So DH and I had to take a tough stance, no milk after 5am, not getting DS out of bed till 6am and not resettling with milk untill other options have been utilised. We had afew tantrums along the way, but now DS will sleep till 6am and often not wake for milk (this morning being an exception).
arimeh - my CHN said to do that to get them to drop the night bottle as they are waking out of habit, not cause theyre actually hungry, and as a result they wilkl usually drink a bit more during the day :)
I don't see how it could. DD is getting 630mls of formula a day and 3 nutritious meals plus snacks of fruit/crackers. It's definately not the fact she's hugry because her tummy is still VERY FULL from dinner when she's demanding the bottle. The bottle in the middle of a night is really just comfort and only started just after we moved.:
In reality it is only like giving her a 90 ml bottle followed by 60 mls water I feel anyway and she genearlly will have 90-100 mls water in one sitting anyway.
Apologies for the frank tone. Not meaning to shoot down your theory by sounding harsh just trying to write while DP's attempt at cooking is asking me to show him how stuff's done :p

I just know warnings on things like that are put there for a reason, usually someone hasn't followed the manufacturer's instructions and something has happened to their baby, there's been litigation, company puts warning on tins. I for one would be going with what the manufacturer puts on their tin as a warning over what a CHN says cos they don't work for the formula company ;)
I dunno, I guess too many years in law have made me take notice of warnings ya know? Maybe I'm odd or something :p

lol arimeh ikwym but i think the formula warning is more for people who would dilute it to make the tin 'last longer', whereas the CHN said to me if bubs is waking up during the night (and often not drinking much of the bottle you give them) its cause of habit and 'weaning' them by diluting the formula til its just water (hence making bub realise theres no point waking up just for a bottle of water), but if you know your bub is waking for nutrition reasons e.g still young, not eating much in the way of solids etc, then keep giving them a nite bottle.... hope that makes sense!
Arimeh, that totally wasn't a stab i swear. I shouldn't write posts during nutty hour here. I know exactly where you're coming from hun. I would not dilute if I felt her nutrition was being compromised.
Tattoo mama, yup, that's exactly my attitude. this did just start after we moved so I felt she was relying on her bottle when all other things seemed different so was seeking comfort. it's not nutritional needs for her at all
Ok just thought I'd update. It's now our third week without ANY bottles!!! I have no idea what changed. I wasn't brave enough to do the dilution thing so kept up the bottle. Then three weeks ago, she slept through the night for two nights in a row! :o So we persevered with the no bottle because obviously she didn't need it if she was capable of sleeping through. The tantrums lasted a couple of nights, but only lasted 20 min compared to the two hour tantrums we were having months ago if we didn't give the bottle. I haven't noticed her eating much more during the day although she seems to drink a bit more milk during the day now. So YAY we are now bottle free after ten months of waking overnight :D Can't really say why all of a sudden she stopped waking but hey it happened and that's all I care about!! LOL Thanks to all of you who gave me your suggestions xxx
i have a 15 mth old and he has probably far too many lol?
one when he wakes up one before his arvo nap one before bed and one when he wakes up @ 11pm the maybe waking @ 2am. its really stuffing up sleeep.
He eats alll day long its just at night where he is having like 3 bottles...so i dunno....i might try maybe just water....
