Default DD's have eczema and not sure why it's flared up

Not sure I'm posting in the right section so feel free to move it Admin if needed.

My DD's have eczema. DD1 is almost 7 and DD2 is almost 2.
DD1 has had it on and off since she was a baby. It seemed to go away for a few years and now it's returned mainly on her buttocks. DD2 has also had it as a baby but now at 22months seems to be getting it on her also.

A few weeks ago DD1 had it spread over most of her back, onto shoulders, onto stomach, on inside and outer thighs and it was driving her crazy. After a week I decided to take her to the Dr as I wasn't sure why it had spread. That morning DD2 also appeared with the same thing on her thighs. Dr said it was a viral rash. DD2 had it then spread over her back and stomach just like her sister so i thought the diagnosis must have been correct.

Now DD1 has it all back again over her back. I took her back to the Dr (a different one this time who I know specialises in dermatology) and she said it's not viral and it's eczema. I have to moisturise her after bath, use QV flare up bath oil & cream on her and use cortisone on the worst parts and go back in a week.

Both girls have the eczema in the same spots and I'm just convinced something is causing this. I'm convinced it's the bath but I've removed the bath mat which has some black spots under the clear coating and it's made no difference as that was 3 days ago. I've just gone through their bath toys and have thrown out anything that could remotely have any time of mold inside them and I've just sprayed the entire bath and I"ll soon give it a good scrub.

I have eczema also, quite bad sometimes, and I've had a good run without much of an issue but just in the last few months my eczema has flared up also (i get it on my hands).

Should I get my DD1 allergy tested?

Has anyone else had this happen and know the cause? They both seem to be the most red & itching the same spots after a bath. I'm not making the temp too high and I've shortened how long they are in there while this rash is going on but I'm just not sure what is going on. They both look like they have contagious rashes!

Have you changed shampoo or soap?
My shampoo is the biggest contributor to my eczema on my legs

No, have not changed shampoo or conditioner and I don't use soap on them. Have not changed washing detergent either.

are they getting hot overnight? new pj fabric?

a qv oil in bath, and maybe even bleach baths can help.

if you think the bath is a trigger, maybe showers for a week to see if I settles.

    any new diet? more dairy?

my son has eczema and we need to keep up moisturising, or it flares. even the we still get flare ups. if he is sick in other ways, his skin often flares up too.

good luck in working it out. The rch has some good info on their website

Not personal experience, but 2 out of the 4 of my sisters kids have excema and both can only wear cotton PJs for bed. Their GP also recommended definitely no baths, showers only, as sitting in the bath, even with just warm water, can exacerbate their excema ☺

No changes in diet or shampoo etc.

I've soaked the entire bath in domestos and will give it a good rinse. Girls had a shower tonight and both of them are red & inflamed all in the same spots, it's bizarre. If just one of them had it then I'd be thinking it was random but it's just weird that both of them look like identical twins with it affecting the identical spots.

The Dr suggested it might be from swimming as they are both in lessons at the same place but they've been doing lessons for over 6 months and this is the first time it's been like this. It was certainly a little worse after swimming but they only have 3 more weeks of lessons and then they are done for the year.

Tonight they were lathered in QV cream, then QV Flare up cream on top (which my eldest said was making it sting) then some Advantan on the worse and most inflamed spots. Mainly over their buttocks and front + back of thighs. My youngest actually made herself bleed from itching.

Your poor DDs, that sounds painful! Maybe the chlorine is too much for their skin?

They could have changed the amount of chlorine..

I can notice the difference walking into our kids swimming lessons in the past few weeks..

Yeah, the chlorine smell seems to be stronger at my DDs swim school too!

My youngest boy always gets an eczema flare-up when winter hits. He will have nothing for more than 6 months then as soon as winter hits, we are bound to get something. And right on time, we got the start of the flare-up yesterday.

For myself, my skin gets very dry around now as well so I have to moisturise my face and legs more than normal as they get so dry.

The rch told us Advantan goes on first, then the moisturiser. The moisturiser helps Seal the Advantan to do its job.
