Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
I'm with rouge and div. treated a break as a sprain. I'd actually chopped a bone which ended up lodging in muscle and calcifying to become an accessory bone on its all. Had to have it removed cos it was seizing my ankle up. I still get significant pain now.
Get the X-ray done and make sure it's nothing. Sounds like a few of us would be in a much better place if we had fine that! :)

I did break it, fracture of the calcaneum so have been in a Camwalker boot since Wed. I wouldn't have had xray done if wasn't for advice in here so thanks to everyone for highlighting the need.
A bit fed up of boot though, it seems to make ankle feel so stiff, foot still looks very bruised and the bruising goes right down to my toes which is weird.
Anyone know if can get a permit to park in disabled spots when you have something like this. I can drive an automatic fine as is left leg (and have my dads for a few weeks) but things like taking DD to swim lessons sometimes only spot is a long walk away.
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
You can get temporary disabled passes, your doc has to fill in a form and then take the form to the council and they can give you a permit. Not sure how long you need to be out of action for to qualify though.
Glad you had it xrayed though. I had 8 years of chronic ankle pain from the gp dismissing a break as inflammed ligaments
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
Apparently have to be out of action for 6 months for a temp permit.
I am thinking about going back to doctors or maybe to place that gave me the Camwalker. As my ankle is hurting more now and new swelling with bruising going up my leg - I can't work out if it is the boot or not - the thing makes my leg seem dead.
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
I went back to doctors last night, and am now on antibiotics in case there is an infection, and also have to have an ultrasound tomorrow to check for blood flow to rule out any clots. I went back to Camwalker fitting place and he is sure isn't the boot (I don't wear overnight and the hot swollen patch behind my ankle doesn't disappear). He got me a bit worried as said pulse to my toes seems very weak, but mobility to them is fine.
I think I am hoping for an infection as that seems like would be easiest to fix. One thing the doctor mentioned was 'Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSDS)' which doesn't sound good at all long term - but fingers crossed it isn't that.
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
Oh hun, hope it's something simple
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
Holy chit! I just read this.
I hope it clears up for you, and fast.
Hugs
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
hopefully it is something the antibiotics clear up very soon for you.
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
Hope am not speaking too soon but I think is looking better this morning after a couple of the antibiotics. Will get ultrasound done anyway but I think it is seeming more like an infection (mind you I didn't think was broken either so not sure my thoughts on this are worth much :-))
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
Just to give you a bit more hope, I had a blood clot in my calf and it didn't feel hot at all, it felt more like a huge muscle cramp. Oh and then when it got bad searing pain that was not possible to ignore.
Definitley follow it up to be sure but I am staying hopeful its just a small infection for you.
Re: Hurt ankle do you put ice on it?
Ultrasound showed no clots so hopefully is just the infection and will continue to get better. Toes this morning seem far more pink so maybe infection was I inhibiting the blood flow.
Thanks MummaT, the doctor had said that most clots will give pain in calf and I had none.
