Wow I had no idea. *Runs to the bathroom and promptly removes all J&J products*
Does anyone know if any of these natural products are available at supermarkets? I'm off to grocery shop tonight and I'll need to replace what I just threw out, and I'm not sure if the chemist will be open.

Lots of ingredients are listed under thier "scientific name" Tocopherol is Vit E for instance so sometimes it looks worse than it is. They are also listed in order of most to least iykwim?
If you are committed to finding crap free products, it may be easier to make them yourself. I highly reccommend doing a course or a class if you can find one. Try natural medicine colleges, or even neighbourhood/community houses and TAFEs.
After my first child was born I was so disgusted with my experiences with the medical profession and companies like J &J (why baby oil is even allowed to be sold is beyond me), I enrolled to become a Naturopath. I didn't finish it, but the knowledge I gained has stayed with me and been valuable beyond words....

Lulu- i agree! re: baby oil... how disgusting is it that they let it be sold?!? its one of the worst products you could put on your babys skin!
and even the new natural range of J&J baby stuff they say is organic etc what a whole load of poo! if you look on the back of the label it still contains *nasties* they try and make mothers believe they are doing the right thing for their child its cruel. its all $$ making for them

sanctum australia has good products

Ashlee, there are lots of great products made here in Australia by small cottage businesses with online shops. Moo Goo is a good example. BB have many links to the MiEssence site which also make nearly every body product you could want and are very safe. I find that big supermarkets are really reducing their ranges of these products. I don't know what arrangement they have with the big multinational companies like J&J, Huggies etc but it seems to me that perhaps those companies don't want the competition.
I don't have the time to make these products myself but i am loving discovering and supporting local cottage industries that I think make safer and nicer products. I can't believe how naiive i was just assuming that J&J really cared about my families health. They don't, like Lulu said they churn out what sells.... and what sells is what we see on our Tv; highly believable emotionally charged images of glowing healthy babies :(

Yeah- pop down to a local market, there's bound to be some handmade soaps there. Still check their ingredients .. some have lots of fragrances and colours and things in them which some people like to avoid, but they usually have a fragrance & colour free soap within their range.

OH MY!
I am so so confused.
I use huggies sensitive on Mackenzie and have done since she was born. I'll have to look into it further...
*very confused*

I use the Gaia range and the Moogoo scalp cream - they both seem to work ok for us
we use the QV wash in his bath because I have it for my sensitive skin and our paed suggested to use it - I'm going to go and look at the ingredients in it now
isn't it incredible that these big companies can get away with marketing these products to mums and dads when they're so full of crappy chemicals
don't worry Jen I'm confused too

gaia and aromababy in this house ...
anything that goes on my babys body always gets researched by me untill i reach a verdict !!! even clothing ..

Well both Caeleb and I have made the switch and we're just loving it!
Caeleb is on Gaia and looks and smells fresh and clean and I'm on MiEssence products and they're just FABULOUS! Yes, they're a little pricey, but my skin feels AMAZING and it never feels amazing!!! I'm just so impressed. I'm also using their roll on deodorant. WOW! I've never had a deodorant that I thought actually "worked" but this does!!! And it smells divine!!
I've also ordered some shampoo, conditioner, milk body wash, soap free soap and edible lip balm from MooGoo! I used their Infant Scalp cream on Caeleb to remove his Cradle Cap. Worked a treat and without me trying to "scratch" it off his scalp (which he absolutely HATED).
We're NEVER going back to those toxic, animal tested poisions again!!!
Celsie & Caeleb. xoxox
p.s. I want to find a non animal tested, organic, natural baby wipe for his nappy bag when we're out and about. Can anyone suggest one? Also, nappy cream? We were using Bepanthan (sp) and I'm sure that's full of rubbish too. I bought a new one in Coles called Avado Baby Naturals Nappy Lotion, but I'm not sure if they're really organic and natural or if they test on animals. Would love some feedback.

I've made the switch to Gaia too, and I love it! Blake smells delicious, and I think the shampoo is 10 times better than J&J anyway!
-
I'm thinking Gaia is tho go for her .. apparently you can buy it at coles.
Does anyone have any suggestions for natural make up??
-
Miessence does natural make-up too!
Celsie. xoxox
-
where can you buy it from?

-
Oh Celsie I am so pleased that you're thrilled with your MiEssence and MooGoo products :) I have 100% faith in them and I am usually a very sceptical kinda gal. I know they are a bit more pricey that the supermarket stuff but i have noticed that the quantites are usually greater so that helps. And you also usually need less product that supermarket stuff, a little goes a long way. You've inspired me to try the MiEssence deodorant too... I was wondering what it was like.

I got my Gaia stuff from my local chemist, but it's sold in Coles and Priceline too.

Kelly: is miessence produced in australia? if not where is it made?
