he has been on thyroxine for a couple of years now, but its only in the last fortnight that hashimotos has been thrown up as a possible cause.
Its the same every time he has to get his levels check, I have to push him to go (in some cases literally) get the blood tests.
The moodiness itself is not recent but it is a lot worse than I remember it being.
After TTC for 12mths i had all the standards tests done including TSH. Was discovered I'm hypothyroid with a reading of 6, and have been on Oroxine since April 08. First dosage was 50mg and tried this for about 4mths with levels going down to 2 then back up to 4 and staying there. Gyno seemed happy with this and had me TTC with Letrozole.
Researched the topic myself and had confirmed by GP that levels should be between 1-2 (which is optimum when TTC). So my dosage was increased to 100mg which resulted in TSH of 0.5 and a 6 wk pregnancy. During miscarriage HCG tests also had TSH tested again and it was at 0.3 which gyno was not happy with and he has reduced my dosage again to 50mg one day and 100mg the next.
Haven't had TSH test done yet to see what level im at - but can tell its going to suck - am loosing hair left right and centre, have low temps and gaining weight when my diet has not changed.
Want to chat with others suffering from Hypothyriodism to discuss your med levels and whether you have found a dip when first medicating and then it going up and stablizing.
My first TSH was 16. I wasn't medicated, i was still breastfeeding and they wanted tests that i couldn't have and still feed. Once the problem caught up with my milk i lost it and had to wean. My first post-weaning TSH was 6.7. I began on 25mcgm/day. That put my level to 4.6. I'm in the UK and 0.5>5.0 is the "normal" range at the lab my bloods go to. So at 4.6 they wanted to leave me as was. I stayed on 25mcgm for about 3 months but i was cold sluggish and losing hair and i had no sex drive so i went back to the doctor's and my GP was happy, given my levels, to up me to 50mcgm/day. Next test my TSH was 3.6 and i've been tested only once since then (3.7).
My GP waits 8 weeks between upping the dose and doing the test. I've never taken a dip then recovery but they might be missing it by having a long window for testing?

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to know if there is anyone out there still with hypothyroidism.
I recently got my levels checked again and they have gone up from just over 3 to 5. I dont think that is particularly high, but too high for ttc. My fertility specialist is putting me on thyroxine.
Interested to hear other people's experiences.
N2L - I was diagnosed between preg 1 and 2.
First my levels were high, then low. I started 50mg once a day of thyroxine just after I found out I was preg 3rd time, around 5 weeks.
I'm not 100% if this made the difference but the first two pregs were blighted ovums. As far as it had been explained to me, the body needs the hormones to be regulated through the thyroid and piturity gland for baby to develop.
At last check my TSH levels were perfect for pregnancy (11weeks) they were around 2.
That's with the meds.
I'm not sure about mixing with the IVF meds, but if its high avoid iodine. If its low, more more than 250mcg of iodine a day (usually this amount in preg vitamins, not elevit)
So far no side effects from the meds!
Thanks MLR.
Can I ask what your levels were?
I'd say a TSH of 3+ is highish, too, honestly.
It's funny MadB but my last FS said they were highish at 3 but not high enough to warrant treatment, but now they are 5 I am wondering maybe it has not helped when it comes to ivf.
Curious as to whether or not your FS has tested you for thyroid antibodies. As you can have normal TSH in the presence of elevated thyroid antibodies which can impact fertility. So a TSH may look ok on paper but things going on behind the scenes can make that normal TSH quite deceptive iykwim
