I agree with distraction at that age... maybe try putting a peg on his sleeve... or a band aid on his finger right before a change. See if that is enough to distract. As they get a bit older I would start to cheer the kind of behaviour that you Do like! I sometimes go a bit over the top and say "Yay!!!! You can touch your toes!!!" etc so instead of having them react to your complaint they end up seeking a reaction for an approved behaviour. Oh and ignore the un-approved behaviour as much as possible with the under 1's.... unless it's a safety issue.

it happens in this house too :)
and Jack is near 8 mths old and over 10kgs...so he lifts his legs and i am sure he uses all of his strength to kick as hard as he can!!!! he loves banging his feet on the end of the change table....but most of the time kicks my belly....i say NO Jack...you are hurting mummy...don't do that...i have a teddy on the table ready to give him...but lately i have been changing him on the floor in the lounge...much easier...although i need a crane to get myself back up off the floor :p

We have the mobile over the change table for DD and I give DS a tube of cream / the nappy to hold / the wipes container etc to distract.

DS does this to me, but never DH. DH gives him a nappy to play with while I was giving him a toy or a teething ring. I try to do quick bum changes now, or if DD is home I get her to jump around for him (though I know this suggestion won't help you much lol)

can the furniture be rearranged, so you CAN change him "on the side".
i also cannot change a baby "on the floor", and after my c-section, i could not bend or even walk properly for MONTHS, let alone get on teh floor, so i totally get your need for the changetable. I had the furniture (including washing machine in laundry) all set up to the most ergonomic effect, to help me survive, being on my own with a bub (while dh was at work). we live in a tiny unit so it was not easy, but i just had to make certain priorities e.g MY BACK!
i would encourage you to put your health first. even if it's just for a few months, until he grows out of the kicking you stage.

Forget to mention, on the days that DS is just absolutely thrashing about and I still havent got a clean/dry nappy on him after a few minutes, I get his legs and hang the over the side of the change table so that he has a leg either side of my waist..sometimes this works, and if not, I have to move quick when he starts lifting his legs towards my belly lol.

BW, have you tried moving the change mat onto the bed? You can sit by him that way. Otherwise, get out everything you need first and leave the drawer shut from the side of the drawers.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but nappy changing does not get any easier when they start to move around! We started doing DD's on the floor and I would sit next to her, since lifting up and down and worrying about her wriggling off the table got too stressful!
