Donella, that 6.3 for last nights meal was a good result. Maybe this morning was up because you had a "shorter" fasting period. Not sure when you finished your dessert, maybe it was later than your usual last meal for the evening and also maybe you tested a bit earlier this morning. Just a thought. GD sure is a complicated numbers game ](*,)

Its been 4 weeks since my diagnosis, am now over 32 weeks and my new diet is going well!!! Its been a bit of trial and error but right now im keeping my fasting to under 5 and my 2 hours after meals to below 6.7. My endo now wants to see my results weekly which is a good positive step and hoping it continues to be diet controlled for the remained of my pregnancy.
Im also now down to weekly appts with my OB as of tomorrow. He also wants me to do fetal monitoring at the hospital prior to my visit to him, make sure bubs heart rate etc are all ok. So i will be watched over like a hawk for the next 7 weeks or so #-o

Back again!
22 months after I was cleared from pregnancy 1 and GD.
I am pregnant again (6weeks) and insisted my GP do a GTT with my initial blood tests for pregnancy - thinking it would be cleverer to know now ratehr than later if I have high sugars.
I still think that was right however today I was informed I have full blown diabetes probably (almost definately) pre-pregnancy.
I had my 12 month test after Declan and was given the all clear yet 10 months later I have converted to "type 2"
The next 34 weeks or so are going to be a long haul... that is just making sure bubs and I are ok.
After the pregnancy I will have to adjust to Type 2 all over again but the GP has suggested one thing at a time. Deal with pregnancy and bubs now... and worry about post preg. diabetes later.
So... the story is.. I am currently trying to control excessive sugars with diet only.
Which if my last pregnancy is anything to go on will probably not work all that well :(
I am going for ultrasound #1 this week and will be seeing a specialist next week or so to get the sugars under control as soon as possible.
I expect it will be diet and insulin control like last time .. although you never know!
Hi to KelliD again :smt039 ... she made it possible for me to survive through my last pregnacy without losing the plot! I just hope my experience so far can help someone else as they go through these sort of things.
I will try to be a regular visitor as I have been distant since I had Declan.
Having been though GD once.. post natal depression and parenthood to 2 step teen girls and my little darling I hope I can help someone else out there as much as belly belly have helped me over the years!

Oh no Kaety... bad news about the type 2 diabetes. Good thing, though, that you thought to get tested early so you're on top of things. Fingers crossed everything goes well for you this pregnancy. O:)
Well, I had some good news at my specialists appts yesterday - I only have to test every 2nd day now because my bsl's have been so good!! YAY! I'm going to (obviously) maintain my current diet, but the doc seems to think I have it enough under control so that I don't have to test so often. That being said, I'd say if I have one high reading, they'll slip me back onto the daily testing.
The not-so-good news is that I've lost another 400g - so that's nearly 2.5kg's in 3 weeks. Doc's want me to GAIN 3-400g per week from now on. So, I'm upping my protien intake, which should help with that.
I'm still doing Angie's suggestion of exercising within an hour after each meal, which seems to be working wonders with me, too! Thanks, Angie!!

I'm only checking my bsl once a day now (rotating, so one day I do before brekky, then next day after brekky, etc..) so far so good... I had one high reading of 8.1 but I know why... (Maccas craving!!) #-o

Welcome katey.. is that a twin ticker I see? Bad luck on the Type 2 but being thorough sure pays off sometimes.
You November Girls are making me so jealous with the alternate day testing and once daily testing.. I'm still struggling along with my insulin and 4 times daily testing. Oh well... on the good side I haven't need the insulin for nearly 2 weeks (although sometimes I wait an extra 15 mins to see if I have slipped under the magic number).

Just a quick note to say I am visiting the physician who will be in charge of my diabetes over the pregnancy today. He was a complete bastard last time and made me cry by being incredibly rude so I am more than a little nervous. I did discuss it with my GP/OBst before I decided to see him again though and he said hes like "HOUSE" on tv... a complete noob when it comes to bedside manner but brilliant at what he does.
I just hope I get through this appt without too much emotional scarring.
I will let you know what the outcome is later today/tomorrow when I recover from the experience.

OOOhhh - good luck Kaety - at least you know he'll do his job well even if he has a crap personality!
Well - My levels have been great, even when I cheat now I still come within accepted levels, so I think I must have only been a borderline case. I'm still only testing once a day, but for over 2 weeks now have not had a single bad reading. I've been walking as much as I can, which unfortunately is only 15 minutes at a time before I get shooting groin pain as bubs is fully engaged and ready to fire!

Hi Katey - how did the yucky drs appointment go... you could always use the line I do on nasty doctors... "Your not God you know, you just went to university." It doesn't do much to their personality but god it makes you feel good.
Donella - not long to go now.. the walking is a great help and as katy said it should help in labour.
I'm still on 4 daily test but have been really good and might even get my tests dropped, but I doubt it.

Thanks for asking I have been busy trying to get the monitoring right and watching everything I consume to see what makes the biggest differences.
the doctor "House" as we call him, was unusually pleasant for himself!
However the news was as bad as was expected and after a few days monitoring it appears that the old BGL's are pretty high esp for this time of the pregnancy.
Todays numbers are all over 6 including fasting levels.
After lunch and dinner we are looking at 8+'s which isnt good but not as bad as last time (30 weeks) where they got up to 10's.
It appears that ANY cereal products ... bread, wholegrains, everything except corn makes my BGL go sky high. Even the smallest serve of whole grain non toasted museli. :( So breakfasts might suck for the next 28 weeks or so
I am monitoring until tomorrow arvo when I have to call the doc so he can give me a insulin dosage regime. So far... I have all the stuff I need... just not how much I need to take.
He kindly is allowing me to ring him on his mobile as he has a conference all week and this means I get onto the insulin before Monday when my next appointment is.
I will let you know how that goes!!

How do you go with spelt flour? I know others who can have that - you could make pancakes with it and drizzle lemon juice... :)
I'm doing fruit and yogurt or all fruit smoothies for breakfast and have found this the best, haven't had a bsl issue since I started this... at least not in the morning.
When I first start katey i even had readings in the 20's... those days are long gone, thank goodness.

I love the smoothies idea kerry and I have just bought spelt bread in the hope it shows lower BGL after eating than burgen or the other recommended breads.
I dont give up good food easily and if spelt works Ill use it in everything...!
Love the spelt pancakes idea~! I am all for alternative foods if they work!
Spoke to the doc today and he has me starting on insulin today.
12 protophane every 12 hrs.. and 4/4/4 actrapid for now. He will reassess how its all going on Monday when I see him after my appt with antenatal and diabetic educator AND the dietician!

It's funny - I get higher readings from fruit than from bread... I guess we're all different!
On the topic of bread - I have found Proformax to be the best. They have it at safeway (woolies) and Coles and Bilo down here (Vic) Its not grainy which in my house of whinging visitors is a bonus. The only other breads I have found any good have been Cape Seed (without dried fruit, just the seed) from Bakers Delight and Finnian Bread from Banjos.. although the Finnians is my fav, just a bit on the birdseed side for most people I know.
I have found I can only have fruit in the morning (unless its lemons or blueberries) otherwise I can have issues.
