The guidelines I was told are under 5.5 after fasting and under 7, two hours after meals as well. I haven't been over yet after meals, but I have had 2 fastings that are over 5.5 out of the last 7 days since I've started testing. Two days ago my fasting BSL was 5.6, then today it was 6. I don't see the endocrinologist again until next wednesday so I will see what he says then.
didispunk I can understand how this is causing you so much anxiety. I'm sorry that you are in a bad place at the moment - I hope you get some serenity soon.:hug:

I had another high fasting BSL reading this morning. 6.2!
I rang my endocrinologist, as I don't see him til next wednesday and he's told me that if my fasting BSL's continue to be elevated he'll have to start me on insulin injections on Wednesday :(
I guess we'll see what the next few mornings bring.
How is everyone else?

Just wondering if I can join in here. Im currently 18wks preg with #3. I had GD with #2 (insulin) and so far I havent been diagnosed with this one, but I was borderline when they did the OGTT last week. I have been monitoring my bsl's all seem to be under control now, except the fasting one is still a little high (but was ok this morning). Hoping to correct that ASAP, as I want to avoid it as best I can. Praying for diet control because I dont want to be induced again or as highly monitored as I was last time. (2 drips, 2 types of monitors on....blah). #2 was perfect size and had no probs whatsoever with her bsl's and neither did I throughout labour and beyond. Even if I become insulin dependant, I will still be begging for no induction as long as I control it as well as I did last time.
Anyway, so far I have found this forum to be very helpful as I have been lurking for a few days :redface:

Considering your #2 bub was perfect size I recon that's a pretty good reason for you to press for no induction this time around ;). Best of luck and I hope you remain GD free for this pregnancy.

I rang the diabetes educator today for some advice on getting my fasting level down...she recommended a dairy snack or warm milo before bed and see how that goes for a couple of days, i have to let her know on fri what my fasting level has been and if its still high, i will need night time insulin - the slow release one ... but on a good note, she said to me that provided my bsl's are well controlled, whether dietary or insulin controlled, and no other probs such as size/blood pressure etc is wrong at the end, there is no medical reason for me to be induced... so HOORAY!!! Now I just need to control it as well as I did last time and make sure all else is ok and hopefully, spontaneous labour here I come.
Still, I have the next half of the preg to go, and anything can happen, but Im staying positive ;)
Crysk, that's an interresting tip from your diabetes educator about having a dairy snack or milo before bed. Cause it's only been some of my fasting BSL's that have been too high so I might give that a try.(although I already have 2 milo's a day, lol) . I've been testing my BSL's for 12 days now and about half of my fasting levels have been over 5.5. The ones that are over have ranged from 5.6 to 6.2. last night I had dinner at 6.30 then my BSL 2 hours later was 5.7 so that's all cool. I didn't eat anyting else after than then when I take my fasting BSL at 6.30 this morning it's 5.9! So I'm guessing my body just doesn't like producing insulin at night :dunno: I'm seeing my endocrinologist tomorrow so I'll see what he says.

she said to have a low gi snack before bed, but she said dairy (yoghurt, milo, custard etc) seems to work best overnight. I am having the same problems with my fasting. Mine hasnt been over 6 but rarely under 5.5... yet, when I test 2 hrs after dinner (out of curiosity) its in normal ranges. So as Im sleeping, I guess my insulin is too lol.:wall:
I'll try the dairy for the next few nights because I have to report back on Fri...

Had my appintment today.. All good levels are good..
At Antinatal.. baby is going to be big and going to go to special care right away.. My DS did as well and I didnt cope well with that at all.. I am very uspet about not having my baby with me already and still hopefully weeks to go.. I know its best for bub.. But i just cant get a grip on it.
Didispunk I just wanted to give you a big :hug: I know the separation is going to be tough for you. Are you able to go to the SCN straight away to spend time with bub? I hope he/she is not in SCN for too long. When bub is out of SCN make sure you have lots of precious skin to skin time together.
I had my appointment today. I've got to phone back in to the endocrinologist next tuesday and if I'm still having high fasting BSL readings then I have to start insulin at night.
So far bub appears to be normal size.
Crysk, the endocrinologist said that at night you pancreas produces glucose so that's why a lot of diabetics are prone to high fasting BSL's.

I will keep trying different things until fri when I have to report back. Its such a bummer because all my other levels are perfect :wall:

Hi crysk, how are you doing with your fasting BSL's? Not sure if it's co-incidence but the last 3 evenings I've been having some custard before bed at around 9.30pm and my subsequent morning BSL's have been okay. 5.1, 4.9 & 4.7 respectively. I've been having a tub of the Pauls custard. (They come in packs of 6) maybe they are doing the trick? What types of dairy did you try?

They have been a bit high still. I have tried a warm milo, 100g custard. Although last night I thought I would try something different. I had a warm milk at about 8pm, then when I woke up at 2am to pee (grrr) I had a glass of milk and this morning my fasting was 5.3 which is the lowest I have had. So Im going to try that again tonight. Even though its supposed to be a Fasting reading......... oh well, whatever works I say
Thats great that your levels have been in a good range. Hopefully they stay that way for you so you can avoid the night time insulin because I know Im trying to avoid it!

Ok so yesteday morning was 4.5...
2 hours after lunch was 7
then last night after steamed veggies for dinner.. NO potato.. no corn..small serve.. 2 hours later was 22.5
HONESLTY cant handle this.. I see the Endocronologist on Tuesday and the Diabetes doc..

Didi - that would be absolutely frustrating - however maybe its because you didn't have any carbs at all your body was looking for carbs - hence the high reading :dunno:
I haven't been going too badly - up to 16 units overnight, which seems to be finally working, but now the after breakfast reading has gone hay wire :wall:
The other issue is that I am absolutely CRAVING chocolate at the moment - I haven't succumbed yet, but I really, really would like to. I think after being so good with mimimal difference I just want to be normal again. Doesn't help that the midwife is praising me for losing weight - yeah, cause thats whats's supposed to happen in pregnancy :wall:
Well...
After being admitted last night for dehydration and 3 bags of fluid later, BH contractions... that happen when dehydrated.. But i have had normal levels since then and not thirsty.. so no idea.
I have a scan in a couple weeks.. see a doc again next week.
The specialist said that my levels look great and ignore that 1 high crazy one, said they will go up and up and up as my pregnancy progress's as hormones added in dont make things better and neither do stress.
I feel better after last night and today.. but goodness..
I am booked in for c-sec at 39 weeks.. even if bub keeps getting big.. as 38-39 weeks might mean special care nursery or not.. and i am hoping for not!
if you are craving chocolate try dark chocolate..the darker the better...it is low GI and full of anti oxidants....great for diabetics!
