Hi guys,
Thanks for the info on what the readings should be. In the clinic they haven't given me a preferred range, but when they checked my readings I had noted down they seem okay. It looks as though about 70% of my results are between 4 & 7 so fingers crossed things are going okay.
I test three times a day, two hours after eating.
I find out tomorrow if I have to have a caesar or not, hopefully I will be able to go naturally as I am on my own and the recovery time after an operation sounds a bit daunting.
Do they like you to go earlier if you have GD? All one dr at the hospital has said to me is that I can't see my dr for shared care any more because of the diabetes, I have to keep going to the hospital.
Tennykins I know, re the pasta. I made up a Weight Watchers pasta dish that I used to really enjoy pre pregnancy yesterday...not only did a small piece give me serious heartburn, but it pushed me over 7 as well
These readings can be so hard to manage and I'm sure I'm not eating anything bad...fruit, dry biscuits, yoghurt for snacks.
Cherii, good luck with the baby!

Hi every one :D
just wondering how do your appointments go with the GD clinic Im moving to The sunshine coast from Ireland in 5 weeks and I have gd diet controlled at the mo
But I normally go to the hospital fasting get bloods taken eat a breakfast then go back and hour later for a non fasting reading then its to see the midwifes they do blood pressure and check your pee then wait on the baby doctor after the baby doctor ive to wait for my blood results to come back before i see the Diabetic doctor takes for ever
At the moment I don't have to check my bloods at each meal only when im on Insulin but When i do its usually before i eat then an hour after i eat and they have to be 5 or under before i east and under 7 I think an hour after how do the GD doctors work it there please
any information would be great make it a whole lot easier if i know what to expect :D
Thanks

Hi Niamh.
I am fairly new to the whole GD thing, but the way it is done here (in Vic anyway!) is if your GD can be controlled by diet, you do a self blood ***** test two hours after every meal using a kit that the hospital supplies but that you pay for.
I then go fortnightly back to the hospital for a visit with the diabetes educator and dietician then an appointment with the dr.
Not sure if this helps or not, like I said I am fairly new to GD and this has been my experience thus far!

I'm not real helpful either, sorry.
I was diagnosted quite early so I've had it diet controlled since then.
At first I had to see my OB and Diabetes educator quite frequently, but now I see my OB every 3 or 4 weeks, but I haven't had to see my educator for a couple of months cause my diet control is going really well.
I do the self testing finger pr!cking at least 2 times a day.
WOW. Your appointments seem to go forever and all that waiting for results and doctors. You poor thing.
Good luck with the moving and settling in.

Hi Everyone,
Just thought I'd check in and see how things are going this week! Another week gone, one less week to check BSL's! :cheer:
Niamh - The whole GD thing sounds like its been extremely tedious for you.... all those long appts! Things should be a whole lot simpler for you here.
Stars & Tennykins - When are you having your scans? I'm due to go for my growth scan next Friday - I'm sooooo excited! I'll be a day short of 35 weeks then. Can't wait to get a little preview of bub.
So I had my follow up appt with the endocrinologist yesterday. She was extremely happy with everything - all my fasting BSL's have been below 4.2 and all post-meal BSL's below 5.5 (apparently that's "normal"). My Hb1ac BT also came back as "normal" so thankfully she doesn't want to see me again. I just have to keep monitoring BSL's and then go for a follow-up GTT 3-6 months after bub arrives. I have been very strict with my diet over the last couple of weeks and I asked her if I can have an occasional "bad" meal..... and I got the ok for that so I'm very pleased. I've got my last birthday without a child next week and DH and I wanted to go and splash out at a great restaurant (and yes that will definitely mean dessert ) So now that I've got the ok to do that I'm stoked! Also, Krispy Kreme has just opened in Brisbane so I have vowed that before bub arrives I WILL try one so that will be my other indulgence before the end ;) Once bub arrives I'll be back into my usual pre-pg strict diet and exercise regime and there'll be no room for Krispy Kreme!
Have a great weekend everyone

:hello: Ladiesss. I hope you're all well and things aren't stressing you out too much
Niamh - You don't need insulin too and your levels are behaving themselves. The readings I got when I had the flu were a bit funny compared to my usual readings. They weren't high, but I found the didn't drop to what they usually are. (i hope that makes sense. Lol. ) I would never have thought being sick would affect things so much. :p
principessa76 - Great news about your appointment with your endocrinologist. I must admit I have some bad things here and there, but if I didn't have them I think I'd go insane and be crazier then I already am. lol.
Happy birthday for next week!! I hope you and your DH have a fantastic time out.
lol. I'm dying to try Krispy Kreme but thankfully there aren't any around the area we live or else I don't think I could control myself. lol.
I hope your scan goes well, and everything is looking perfect.
I had my 28wk one last week. I'm not fully sure when I'll have the next 1 or even 2.

Hello :D
principessa76 it has makes for a lot of sitting around alright glad when I dont have to do that any more :) it really does sound so much simpler
Tennykins my last bood test came back perfect that was at easter so i was delighted but staright back to normal this appointment my fasting was high as seems to be always the case with me the Diabetic doc thinks ill have to go on insulin eventually as i was on it last time at the end but if i manage to stay on diet on till 36 weeks ill be happy and sure i know the insulin is not so bad and it will be over before I know it , but your right feeling un well can make them go funny alright
Just wondering do they send you for more scans with GD there Here we get a mini one in the doc room at every visit they just check for movement and heart beat now but later it will be size they dont really send you for a big one on less they want a more detailed scan or if they think there is a problem, Do they tend to induce you early with GD
I had a scan yesterday it was great baby is healthy and so active and a little girl my first but she says she is about a pound now thats not a bad size
-
I was wondering the same thing about scans too.
I don't know if this applies to everyone else or not but for me, I will be having 1 or 2 extra scans then my previous pg with DS when I didn't have diabetes.
As for the inducing. I have no idea about that.
I was only told by my OB that I wouldn't be allowed to go past my due date. I was a week early with my DS so I'm hoping it's like that this time. :)
