Jase bought me my wedding jewerlry and I bought him a beautiful dress watch :)
My DH and I have a long running thing with fish - it goes back to something he said to me the first night we met.
I got him the most beautiful polish glass fish which has pride of place in our loungeroom.
Do you DH and you have something special and quirky that you both share?
thankyou guys, you have given me an excellent idea. I am going to make a wedding box, and give it to him on the morning after the wedding.
Going to pop in there
- nice champers (one in a box, i'll put the box in with the gift and chill the bottle overnight, so we can have a champagne breakfast!)
- a pen with his new business name engraved into it
- hip flask engraved with our names and wedding date - BG that is perfect!!
- a bottle of wine to pop away and enjoy in a year
- everything on oceanprincess' little list, how fantastic!!
Hee hee maybe I shoudl include a pic of that car he loves and write something on the back, something like "one day baby". what do you think?
I have one day to buy it all, argh!
Last christmas I went out and bought a toy model of DH's favourite car and I said exactly that - "One Day"!!!
I bet if you go into the toy department they will have little Audi's!
thats a great one amy, thankyou!!
pmsl .. not sure if anyone has mentioned this but , the gift you got for him is free honey !!!!!
no need to buy him anything iykwim ;)
sorry but it was the 1st thing i thought of
what a sweet thing to say lea, I know you are right, I just want to do something he wouldnt expect.
He definately wont expect to wake up to a bottle of moet, or an eraser to "rub out our mistakes". (that one really touched me)
I got DH a nice watch which he wore on the wedding day and he got me a diamond bracelet.
Great idea kitt3n! What man wouldn't love that!
I think that you are the most wonderful gift hun but this will be such a nice surprise for him!
Let me try and think of the other things I put in there...
- A little clock (I bought a cheap plastic travel clock from the Reject Shop) so he always had time for me
- A soft toy (I chose a teddy) to hug when I am not around
- An elastic band to help us to stretch beyond our limits
- A small pack of seeds so we can grow together
- A piece from a jigsaw puzzle because without him I was missing a piece
- A star so all the stars you are going to reach for together aren't that far away
You see how sweet/corny/cheesy you can be?! I think from memory that's all I put in. I can look tonight (DH still has it close by) if you like?
It doesn't have to be pricey - these things are more about the thought/gesture.
I used some of the scrap paper from our invites and wrote little tags explaining what each item was, attached a tag to each item, then put them in a gift bag. I did the little tags because I gave the bag to my MIL and asked her to give it to DH on the morning of our wedding and I wouldn't have been there to explain.
Your box idea with the champers and the little car sounds great!
Good luck - have fun!
OP that is the sweetest idea!!!
Our first anniversary is coming up - I might have to steal this idea too!
Darling, you are the gift! I suggest you wear a ribbon...;)!
DH and I agreed not to get eachother anything - but we have a promise for a big diamond for me and a really nice watch for him some way down the track.
I love what you have come up with - just super.
As an aside - I am so sorry to burst your bubble but even the most fantastic champagne that was perfectly sealed in the bottle and stored at exactly the right temp and humidity is generally past its used by date after 10 years. Most will last 5 at a stretch. The recommended is about 3 years.
Does the one that you have have a vintage on it? If so you can contact Veuve Clicquot directly and ask them how long it will cellar for. I know that there are a couple of vintages that will last the 10 well if stored properly but most wont be much good after that time). If it doesn't have a vintage on it (generally has a yellow rather than gold label) then it was really designed to be drunk when it was purchased or within a couple of years. I would really hate for you to hold onto a bottle of good champagne and then open it to find that it was not all you dreamed it would be.
I have to second this. Years ago I bought a bottle of Vintage Dom Perignon. $300 duty free, numbered, sealed, all the rest.
I stored it in what was apparently "ideal" conditions.
The time came to crack it open (lol, when I left my ex as a celebration!)..... and it was SHOCKING.
Ended up mixing it with jim beam and butterscotch shnapps  (some kind of ****tail we found).
So yeah, enjoy it now!!!
Hi kitt3n,
I think the cuff links are a lovely idea- I had forgotten that I bought some rose gold ones for my DH when we got married but it was 12 years ago this Sunday!
I think it's nice to get something that won't die or be superseded (i.e gadgets).
Or a dozen bottles of really good red wine to drink a bottle on your anniversary is a great idea if you have somewhere appropriate to cellar the wine so it improves with age.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll get something perfect for your DH, you know him best.
The wedding day will be great, he won't want you to go into debt to give him a present!
I didn't know that!! It's just the yellow label. Perhaps we better crack it open next week for our first anniversary!
i got dh some professional photos of myself ... they were about $1000 for the set but worth every cent . he loves them ...
