    Who else hates knowing?

This applies to any celebration where a present can be received. Who hates knowing what they are getting?

I certainly do. Today Andrew said to me about going to Big W to buy me my present. I said "oh so is that what I am getting". I showed him something in the catalogue the other week. He said "well I don't know what else you want". After 16yrs together he must have some idea of what I am interested in !! and I have given plenty of hints.

I really detest knowing what to expect. Last Christmas I did a wish list on the fridge, thinking he'd pick one or two from the list and possibly get a couple more for my birthday less than 2 months later. I thought if I did that I wouldn't know EXACTLY what I was getting come Christmas, but he bought everything on it and gave it all to me for Christmas.

    So who else hates knowing?

Me! I love surprises. This year, for the first time in 15 years I got a surprise for my birthday, I think I loved the anticipation more than the actual present lol.

    me, me, me!

I cant handle knowing what Im getting. Firstly it takes all the fun out of opening the present!
But I also cannot stand the constant questions, of 'what do you want', 'how about you tell me what to get you' etc etc. I find those questions to hinder the whole celebration.
This year I am pretty sure I know what I am getting, but havent been told as such.

Never thought of the list on the fridge though. I may do that for my birthday

I totally agree about it taking the fun out of opening the present. I'm like "hmm why bother opening it cause I know what it is" then having to do the whole surprised look about it LOL

I even hate knowing what my kids are getting from other people, cause I want to be "oh wow that's awesome" with them.

Oh Im the same, It really irks me when the girls' grandparent tell us, show us what they got the girls so we can approve the pressies, like really is that really needed?

Yep, I hate knowing too. I love surprises, and I think a birthday/chrissy gift should be a surprise! My hubby is terrible at keeping them to himself.

LOL BeansBeans. Mum did just that on the phone the other day. I told her to buy a Ninjago DVD for Lachlan. So on the phone i said "did you end up getting a Ninjago DVD" and she said "Yeah why" so I said "Was just wondering cause I am looking around for his b/day present next year" and she said "hang on I will go and unwrap it and tell you what one it is" I said "Mum I have 4mths I am sure waiting 11 days to see what one it is won't kill me"

But yes she was going to unwrap the present so I knew what DVD she had got him. Knowing it is Ninjago is enough LOL.

    I love knowing.

    Because I love surprises.

And if I know what the present is, then they totally have to organise something else as well, so that I still get a surprise.

    Huzzah.

And by organise, this can a be poem, drawing, card, handcraft, or purchased item. I'm totally cool like that.

    Again, I say huzzah.

I hate knowing. It's a let down. And i don't get why people insist on telling me exactly what they are getting my kids?? I want that to be a surprise too. I don't want to know that you are getting DS lego - and i don't want you to send me a link to the exact box! Or a photo of the one you bought PXT to me from the shop.

Can someone please tell DH for me? He knows i hate junk, and i don't wear jewels and perfume much - he just doesn't bother anymore, but i'd really really like a small surprise this year.

My in laws organize presents for the kids without consulting us. I love it. I'm always like "wow that is an awesome gift!" My mum, on the other hand, rings me and says "what do the kids want for Christmas?" This year I told mum a new kitchen for DD, she then emailed me a whole lot of links and said "which one?"

In one way it's great because I can tell her something big instead of heaps of little crummy presents, but I hate the knowing.

DH is sometimes really good, sometimes useless. He has asked me about forty five thousand times what I want for Christmas and each time I've told him the same things but he keeps forgetting. List on the fridge might be a good idea...

But then he went and secretly had a stunning ruby necklace made for me by our jeweler friend for our anniversary and completely rolled me, I thought we weren't doing present and was completely floored! I told him to enjoy it as it was the only time he'd get one over me

I think it depends on the occassion. For my birthday, I do like a surprise from DH and the kids. For xmas, my family only do a KK for the adults and then presents for the kids and we usually give ideas of what to get them. Otherwise, there's a lot of doubling up. Whereas, my DH's family - it has to be a SURPRISE. Always. To the point where you get crap that you don't need or want, every year. When pregnant with DS2, I asked DH's family if they could put in together and get us another change table and that went down like a lead balloon. B/C You're not meant to EVER ask for anything. It's meant to be a surprise. But guess what, we knew we were having another boy, had heaps of clothes and stuffed toys and I thought, I really need another change table and not more plastic, noisy crap. They bought one, but not before 20 questions about why we needed one and that I could pass this on to his sisters when they had kids. Yeah, no strings attached to that present! So, yes, a surprise can be nice, but a practical present (when requested) can be even more appreciated, especially when money is really tight.

My DH- and it drives me insane!!, he buys anything he wants anyway so theres nothing to get him, but insists on receiving surprise bday and xmas presents- Impossible!!

  14. Who else hates knowing?

    :

Yep, I don't like knowing what I'm getting for Christmas either. I take it one step further and refuse to give vouchers or money for Christmas gifts ... I like giving people a (useful) surprise too.

Strangely, this doesn't apply for me when it's my birthday ... then, I'm ok with knowing what I'm getting.

I LOVE THE SURPRISE!!! The build up and anticipation is better than the actually opening.

I hate knowing what everyone is giving me and getting the kids too. It really does make it less exciting and like you're going through the motions.

I hate knowing also, but then i will snoop around until i find out then feel really bad and hate the fact that i found out and that i know what i am getting LOL go figure that one out hahahahaha

  17. Who else hates knowing?

    :

DH and I both hate knowing! We don't get each other gifts because money is tight and when we do need something we get it when we need it. So it's up to family to surprise us, but they *always* ask what we want! I hate that question! The other day mum called me to ask which mixer I have, and what attachment I want. So no surprises there :-(

The other day DH told me he's most excited about his BB Secret Santa gift, because he has no clue what it is and he wants to see what great ideas you guys have! He's told me that's the first one he's opening Christmas day lol.

Love surprises =) and love unwrapping a pressie having no idea. I love the suspense! and I do guess crazy things and drive myself crazy, but I love doing that, its all part of the fun =) one of the reasons (if not the main reason) we didn't find out Spock's sex, and will never find out any future bubs sex.
