Oh well, station is closed at night, so def backpackers. Any recommendations? Reviews aren't promising... unless I want to pay $110 a night. Which I guess I could do if I have too...
What is your ideal accomodation budget, roughly? Midland / guildford are only 10 mins from airport, there would be something there.
Honestly, I want to get away with it as cheaply as possible. I'm only going because I had a few weeks full on at work & a bit of extra money, so the flights & car are paid for. Other wise I wouldn't be going anywhere. I don't have a lot to spare.
I was willing to pay $50 or so, just so I can have a locking door & a shower, but reading the reviews of places that cheap does have me thinking its not worth it.
I thought about not even going... so much going on with the kids & things to pay for, but my mum insisted! I do need it...
I'd like to be as close to Perth itself as possible. I need to be at the bus station by 7.30am. Will thoroughly enjoy the 6.5 hours of hopefully blissful sleep on that bus on the way home though  If I stay in Midland I really should've thought that through before booking the bus this morning, coz it goes from east perth down to midland before leaving town... it'd be great to turn around & go back into the city wouldn't it?
I have stayed in YHA's (Youth Hostel Association - backpackers) all over Australia and never had a problem - there is one in Perth near the station (not sure if is near bus station too) - you will get a room in a 4 share (female) for less than $50 and they have 24 hour receptions at the city ones.
I don't to put too much faith in online reviews - I wouldn't hesitate to stay in a YHA.
I was thinking YHA might be the best bet. Thanks :)
Could you stay at the airport somewhere, and find a corner to crawl into for a few hours and then grab a taxi in the morning to the bus stop? I have done it at airports OS, but not here.
The YHA kitchens often have an area for people to leave food before they leave so often you can get a free breakfast etc. out of that. :-)
That was my original plan HotI. And I'm still thinking about it...
Mum has been to the station (same station Ghan leaves from, as well as country coaches) & she thought I'd be safer there than the airport. But it closes after the last train about midnight, til about 5am.
Then I read some different things. People do stay at the airport, but usually have a flight out the next day & more so in the international airport, so its more accepted. And its a smaller airport, so things close down between flights... But the terminal I'm arriving too has what looks like a decent departures lounge... and it does look like you go through there to arrivals... Just depends if I can stay in there, or if I'd need to go sit in the check in/baggage collect area. Anyone know if you can hang around in the departures lounge if not flying out again??
ETA: Just read that all domestic terminals close from 12.30am-4am :( Wonder if I could wander on over to international??? They have a public observation area... they're open 24/7 & international is right next to the terminal I arrive at... Hmm...
So you would prefer to stay nearer the city? There are heaps of places in Northbridge, i know people who have stayed in the one on the corner of Lake and Newcastle Streets (not sure of the name) and rate it highly. Then you can easily walk to the station. There is also one on Francis st (near beaufort st) right behind the museum so like a few minutes walk to the station.
Yeah, there is plenty of accommodation near the city. Only cheap option though is backpackers. All only a few minutes walk to the station.
I'm just weighing up the cost of the late night taxi, & late night check in, when I might only be asleep for a few hours. Trying to decide if its worth the money for that amount of time. I'm leaning towards YHA though.
I booked a 4 bed share dorm at YHA. If I have enough $$ left when I get there, I'll see if I can upgrade to a private room :)
Thanks for all the advice peeps :) Under a week to go now!!
Yay! Glad it's all sorted.
:wall: NOW mum suggests flying out from Perth to Esperance. NOW she offers to pay $100 towards it!
They are in esp til they were meeting me on the coach on Tuesday anyway  I wish I'd thought of it before. I forgot they fly down there. Refunds should be fun to get... but life is much easier that way.
