Thanks Naomi - that's exactly what I want to do. I've been looking at tables, but they all cost more.
Does anyone have the Stuva bench? It's kids furniture, but I was thinking of using it as a storage bench. Would it take the weight of an adult sitting on it? I was thinking of getting some foam cut to size, then covering to make a cushion. I've looked at ottomans, but they're all expensive too.
I'm really trying to get as much as I can for as little as possible :)

My favorite hobby in the whole world is playing "spot the Ikea products" on telly and in the movies. :lol:
My sister is a mad ss freak, and was abetted by living just around the corner. I've never found that it gelled with my existing decor, because I have a lot of imported carved type furniture that doesn't match the light wood/black/white style.
BUT I do have a wall of billy bookcases which I love love love. DD2 has their faber soft furnishings and a very cute little bed, and we also have a very early model sofa bed - which is amazingly comfy to sleep on. eventually DD1 is getting a whole room makeover, but we're still playing with the floor plan
And we eat the meatballs too, but not very often as it is opposite side of town to us.
We are off to the Swedish Store of Goodies this morning!!

Had a big morning at the Swedish store today. I was good and didnt buy everything in sight. I got a heap of Expedits and wow, are they heavy! Thankfully, a lovely friend was there to help me & the porter could load them in the car. Also bought some cheap, pretty lamps and reaally cheap, ugly net curtains that will do for privacy until our blinds are installed.
And meatballs for lunch :)
Oh we went yesterday. A friend and I had a kid free day of shopping at the new big one in sydney.
I bought lots :redface: But I only bought stuff we needed :lol:
Awesome little sewing table desk for under $30!!
We even had morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea there! :o
This time round I have even convinced DH to take me next week! I must have got some good stuff for him to be interested! :lol:
Best part of the day there, watching DH fight with the flat packs :lol:
Taking my bro this arvo, and DD said to me "Mum, is Uncle Chris coming to the meatball cafe with us" - she is her mothers daughter for sure.
Argh, I can't wait to get rid of a heap of our junk and go crazy at "The Swedish Store" :lol: We went to Cash Converters to sell some things yesterday, and on the way out we were joking about needing the money for our "Swedish fix" :p
I've convinced myself that I need an Expedit unit to shelve all my various kitchen gadgets in our new beautiful kitchen - does anyone have one? Can you tell me if you think a slow cooker would fit on a shelf - that's about the largest thing I would probably be putting in it, I think...

my all time favourite swedish store buy still has to be the cheese grater. i love that baby.
OMG I'm obsessed with my cheese grater too! I keep planning on buying everyone one for Christmas I love it so much :rofl::
Teni - the inside measurements of one Expedit cubicle are 33cm wide, 33cm high & 39cm deep. You can alter them a bit though if you want to have a bigger space.
Which is what we did yesterday when putting up the Expedits. Mum & I were wrestling with putting up a 4x4. We stood it up before we should have. Then Mum broke a shelf off so the dowel was stuck in the shelf. Then I went to look at the instructions and she broke the others off. She felt pretty bad about it, but we just rearranged the top & bottom so the top shelf is one long shelf. It looks quite good. I've also worked out how to get the broken dowels out if we decide to fix it. Btw- the big side planks are hollow, so when a shelf falls on one dowel first, it punctures a hole in the side.
We didnt get the 5x5 because it doesnt come in white high gloss. So we're using a 4x4 and a 4x2 lying horizontal in the dining/living for books & things. We'll also set up a 4x2 to extend the hallway, like in MummyNaomi's picture.
The red gloss is very funky, but not our colour scheme.

i've been eyeing off the expedit for awhile now...am thinking for books etc...must check out the sizing in person; i am crap at trying to imagine through measurements lol.
We have a 4x4 expedit. I LOVE it. We had it in our son's room and have a bunch of baskets for it but in our current house we have it at the front door. It's a total mess of shoes and jackets jammed in it.
The Expedits are done and the books are unpacked and sorted. I've left room in cubes for other things like table mats and boxes. I'm now looking for funky boxes to store things like my knitting and loose recipes in.
We didn't end up using one of the Expedits in the "hall". It wouldn't fit with the standard lamp (also Swedish), so it's lined up against the wall with the others. It looks good. We have the 4x4 with the top shelf as a bench with photo frames. Then next to that are two 4x2s lying horizontally. On top are more photo frames, fruit bowl and things. I still want something by the front door to dump keys on, so I'm thinking about a 2x2. I just have to check if they come in high gloss white. Or I can scour op shops for a small hall table.
Has anyone installed I.kea curtains? The price of nice curtains is scaring me. I don't like the panel curtains from I.kea, nor most of their material, but I was thinking of using their curtain rail system. Has anyone installed it? I'm thinking I might just have to use curtain lining and some cheap sheers. Not what I had in mind, but we're tight for cash at the moment and the cheap stuff is awful. I just rambled through Spotlight in despair. My, but curtains are ugly!
I've made curtains very cheaply with gorgeous fabric. It's easy to do just time consuming and it can be tricky managing the volume of fabric. Do you sew at all?
Mum does, so she'll make them for me. It's finding the cheap, gorgeous fabric that's the issue. I need to get something up to replace the quilt nailed to the window. So I was thinking of using lining as a stop gap until I find fabric I like & can afford.
Are you in Melbourne? I go to rathdowne remnants in victoria St Brunswick. They have heaps of interior furnishing fabrics at cheap prices, as well as all the other curtaining stuff (block out fabric, rings and tape) they just don't have the rods. I can definitely tell you what you need...
