I don't have one and don't want one but DH does.
Our current TV is one we brought off a friend for $100 when our last one died.
We think this one is on borrowed time but I am seriously concerned about (a) spending that much money on a TV when I hardly watch it and (b) spending that much money only to have the kids trash it.
DH and I have talked about it a few times and I've said the only way I'd let him get one is if it could be mounted on the wall out of the kids' reach.
The new new LED would probably be better power wise. LED uses up to 40% less power than LCD. Plasmas are power hungry.
No big flat screen TV here either....DD1 has been pretty brutal with our TV despite also being pretty well behaved (well as toddlers are I guess).
We have 3 friends whose fancy tellies were trashed by their kids - one drawn on in crayon and pixels ruined, another tried to fixed it with his Dad's tools (completely broken) and the last shorted the fuses in the TV as well as the whole house (TV dead)! Not a good strike rate!
We don't have one...Dh wants one, I don't.
Actually it's probably one of the few things that he wants & I don't.
my 2 reasons are:
1. The one we have is about 57cm & just fits in our cabinet. Where on earth would we put a huge flat screen? We rent, and there is barely enough room for us & the (soon to be) 4 kids
2. I can think of waaaaaay more things to spend money on than a TV. TV is just not my fave thing, end of story.
From reading some of the others posts, and from what I hear from friends...is it a 'boy' thing?
Wow! I'm blown away now by the sheer quanity of people who feel ambivalent about big flat Tvs
Tinkerbell: for some reason the fact that your tellie died during Big Brother really tickled my funny bone! :D
Fiona: Yep: I wanna child-lock one too...and a child lockable 'fridge!!!!
We only just got one and my mum bought i for us.
i never would have bought one myself.
Our old tv (that was 20yrs old and from my parents old house -good old Panasonic) died when mum was here visiting so she bought us a flat screen LCD. I never would have bought one but she got it on sale and it is only a small one. I do worry that DD will push it over when she is crawling and pulling herself up on things.
We don't have one and will never ever ever get one. Even if we were offered one we would never take it.
Waste of electronics, money, energy, and brain space.
Oh but Kryss you look so good up there on tellie! :D So glad you gave me the heads up...was it last year??? I had my three kids gathered around the TV watching "Are You Smarter Than A Grade 5-er" feeling so in awe that you were brave enough o go on TV!
Don't have one and the only reason I would get one is to wall mount it to save space..
If you look hard, you can still find the old type occasionally.
The only reason DS doesn't play with the TV is that we have a playpen wall blocking his access... ;) One day that won't work and I don't know what the heck I'm going to do! :wall:
Ha ha Bath! I think I looked large enough without a wide screen tv. LOL
Awww no way Kryss! You looked great! Seriously! You could become one of those career Tv game show contestants!
Well speaking of TV I had better wander out now and switch off the Eagles vs Hawks footy game... and get to bed!
We dont have one and at this stage we dont plan on getting one. We have an old Tv , maybe 15 years old. It was in the house when we bought it, previous owner said we could have it, so we kept it. It works fine so why waste our money to replace it.
We don't have one in our house, but I think because DH and I were so overwhelmed with all the options. We recently bought an el-cheapo tv from Kmart - a boxy thing (only because our 16 year old tv died) When you're at the shop comparing them, the big expensive ones look great, but when you're at home with one tv to watch and nothing to compare it to - it looks great as well.
We don't have one and won't get one until our old TV claps out.
We have a small one in our bedroom, and that's because our old bulky one bit the dust, and we couldn't find another like it on the market with 2 sets of AV jacks 'in' to connect our set top box and our dvd player. DH was really unhappy about having to buy a new, fandangled, energy-burning flat screen! Lol!
I am probably the one who would be happy to replace our old TV with a flat screen even now but I know DH will never go for it. He's the kind of man who won't let me turn our 5-star energy-rated gas heater up any higher than 20 degrees because it'll unnecessarily use power. So when I complained about how cold it still was in the house, he bought me a sleeping bad instead for me to wear when I'm watching telly at nights!
When we had some extra dosh recently, he signed up to get photovoltaic cells put on our roof over a new TV.
on a side note - I know of one wonderful woman on here who doesn't have a tv and her family doesn't suffer from not having a tv .... let alone a flat screen
