Would you ask a snoop to house sit?

I know my MIL is a snoop, but we still have them house-sit.. They were here a few months back, and I made sure there was a suprise in the 1st drawer (the easiest thing to access in our room), and suprisingly nothing our room was touched..

All the kids clothes were put away, the rest of the house was spotless, and my sheets changed, but mine and DH's clothes were left on our bed (she used to put them away and it iritated me!

And we allow them to house-sit because they are DH's parents, and that is just the way she is.

No way. My sister housesat for us last year for a weekend, and after we got back she confessed she'd been looking for something (norty how-to manuals) and found our toy drawer.....and then called another sister and they went through it together :o I cannot describe how absolutely violated I felt, and we have never asked her to housesit again.

Fair enough, you may not have anything to hide - but that doesn't mean everyone needs to see and know what you have. I would not only NOT ask them, I would be upfront about why.

And if you're stuck for a housesitter, we're living with my parents at the moment, so we're available :)

Absolutely not! In fact, I would never ask anyone to housesit for us anyway. I have done it for others (didn't look at their stuff though!) and really hated it.

My MIL is also a massive snoop. But I would let her...only because I'd rile her up by placing incredibly inappropriate and offensive (to her) items around the place :lol:

My Step Mother is also a snoop. I'd let her house by putting electronic booby traps around to scare the cadoodle out of her!

My sister is a shocking snoop. The only way she would be left alone in my house is with a pitbull guarding every room she wasn't allowed in...and that's AFTER I locked all things I didn't want her seeing/touching in a secure safe...1,000Km away!

I spent this weekend house-siting and I snooped a little out of boredom.... :hide: I was looking after my grandparents place. I only looked in the cupboards in the spare bedroom and in the walk in hall cupboard.. But I didn't rummage through anything, I was only looking for books/something entertaining lol. Actually tbh I usually snoop here, if I hadn't snooped last time I stayed I wouldn't have found out my Nan threw out my wedding dress (whole other thread there).

I wasn't digging around in their personal stuff though, that'd be totally weird.

If I knew someone had snooped through my personal stuff I'd be annoyed (ie through my bedside draws etc etc) And I wouldn't let them house-sit. No way!

Thanks for all the replies, and yep I'm asking because

a) I kinda feel obligated to ask them as we've asked everyone but them and
b) DH is fine with asking but I'm not

The person hasn't been in the house alone since that incident as I don't like thought of them snooping through our stuff. DH just says we should buy a lockable filing cabinet and put away anything we don't want looked at, but that's not the point.

We're not desperate for house sitters either, it just feels odd to have asked everyone and not them! Atleast this thread helps back my way of thinking to DH :)

Arghhh and now I'm thinking I should have gone plat in case they online snoop too :shakehead:

WHAAAAAAAT! I bet they sat & had a good giggle. I would have been thinking so hard to come up with some reason to get them ****ting themselves about STD's or something. I can't believe someone would do that. Snoop yes (I have snooped when house sitting before but I was very young & it was as a PP said only in linen cuboards/sewing room. Not personal personal stuff) but to then call someone over to have a good rummage & giggle about something so incredibly personal & then I assume tell you about it?!

I was gobsmacked tbh. And humiliated. A little while later I sent them both text messages to say how disappointed and embarrassed I was, and that I couldn't trust them to be unsupervised in our house anymore. I rarely tell people off, I generally just dwell on it and make myself upset, so they were quite embarrassed and apologetic. I felt like slapping them though :)

HB - Think of it this way: even if you lock sensitive stuff away, it's gonna be on your mind while you're on holiday, and it will spoil it for you. So tell your DH too bad, you're picking someone else :)
