Oh, edd is the 29th Jan.
I'm expecting February. The others came 2, 13 and 10 days after their edd.

Welcome Special :D
There was more I was going to put here, but it's all flown out of my head. I'm not even tired, just have brain fog at the moment *sigh*
Looks like my mw for dd2's birth is going to be away for the week leading up to my due date. Not sure what that means for me. :(. I know the thought of going with someone else makes me anxious tho. Anyone else had to deal with that??
Yep. My midwife goes away 2 days before my edd for a week.
It is annoying and means I need I find an alternative for that week. But she told me up front and the option of just not having her at all seemed worse to me, so I'm taking the chance and assuming I go over. Or early. Lol
For me, it's the pregnancy care that matters most to me, since that's when I tend to stress.
Did you go over with your last one Bella? Who was your midwife anyway - someone on the sunshine coast? Mary and I were talking yesterday about another midwife up there that is taking on up to 9 clients a month now (and its only her and a doula) and a few weeks ago she had 4 ladies in labour all at once so she sent some of them to the Nambour Hospital on their own to birth. I'd be bloody cranky if that happened to me I tell ya!!! Glad Mary and her other midwives take on only 4 a month.
If you not at risk of going during that time, I'd probably chance it and go with your midwife.
Yeah I know who that one is, and it is really sad that that is happening. I've already told her it isn't ok, and she assures me it won't keep happening, but it does. She does have other midwives working with her now, but from everything I have heard both her and Mary say, they are pretty bitter rivals. It's not the way that it should be. But I have strong opinions about that me too. One of my closest mates had her and her hubby called me to meet him at the hospital, because she had a big pph due to a vaginal wall tear, involving an artery, and neither mw or doula had gone with her in the ambulance. They stayed back to clean up the blood apparently! Anyway, I don't rate her at all, but she sells well because she is very personable and charming when you meet her. But yeah who knows what happened with those women going to Nambour hosp. It is always hard to know for certain because Chinese whispers are always misleading.
Afm, my Mw was Rachel reed. I really get along well with her, and I think we are friends as well as client/Mw. So it is gonna be hard to replace her. But I am sure Vicki Chan or someone else would help me out, as I know most of the local midwives to some degree or other. I just want Rach tho
Oh and I went 42+2 with my first which was a c/s in the end, and 40+6 with dd2. I suspect I would will my body to wait. She is going to a conference in Prague to speak, which is the 1-5th of may. Not sure if she planned to go see family in England before she came back tho.
I'd go with her. She might make arrangements in her absence anyway for another midwife to take over her clients?
And yes, I gathered Mary and the other midwife didn't have the best history, she told me other stories as well. I think Mary is just proud of the system they have going there (2 midwives attending each birth) and it worries her that when other midwives take on too much work or do things like leaving her doula with a labouring client for 12 hours, and then coming back in and saying oh well this isn't progressing off to hospital - that worries Mary that people will have that impression of all homebirth midwives and can ruin their rep so to speak. And I understand that worry, her business is built on reputation really isn't it.
Oh I understand Mary's concerns. They are shared by pretty much ever mw on the coast. I share the concern too. There has been dangerous stuff done, and it will only take one baby dying...... Cos you are right, they are all judged as a whole.
9 a month seems huge!
To be honest, I am not sure how many my midwife takes on, but it's not her full time job and I think it isn't a huge amount per year.
Yeah 4 is the recommended. Not sure how often it has happened. Certainly not ever month.
But she often doesn't make it to appointments. My friends sister was seeing her and didn't get an appointment from 20-36 weeks, so she changed mw's.......
She never got back to me when I rang her to see if I could reschedule our appointment - it was Mary that rang me back and rescheduled (had first appointments with both of them on the same day) so I went with Mary.
Even if Mary is busy at a birth, I see Josie who is absolutely lovely. They also had a student there yesterday which I really think is awesome that student midwives get a real feel for birth instead of seeing it in a hospital all the time!
oh wow! cricket had her baby!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!
:happyforyou:
yes, yes...I live under a rock and totally missed this exciting news! *off to read Mr Cs birth story now*
Thanks Cass. :) We're doing great over here. It's our anniversary today and DH and I are going to try to have a little bit of a date. Looking forward to that, although it's kind of hard to plan an outing when the only thing that fits are yoga pants.... :P I like to try to look nice if we go out!
I'm excited to share that my beautiful baby boy (currently nameless) was born at home in the lovely, lovely water at 4.46pm this afternoon. He is 4.34kg and breastfeeding like a champion :D
