Just an update on my appointments with the hospy I've booked in at:
I had to see another GP Ob so that she could sign off on the booking in, because the GP I sacked (surprise surprise) left the practice and was supposed to tell me before I stopped seeing her that she wasn't going to be at the clinic in the New Year! Anyway, to remain booked in I had to see another GP and the midwife recommended one to me (first time I'd met that middie, too, and I brought her round from apprehension to understanding in that appointment, too!). So, we had a chat and I explained that I wasn't afraid of doctors or the hospital and that I just wanted there to be mutual understanding in the case of a transfer and that if I didn't medically need to transfer then I'd rather stay put labouring and birthing at home without having to get into a damned car - that's become the line I use and they seem to respond...almost with empathy...to that and feel much better about my intentions when I say it.
So, my IM and the hospy people are quite happy for me to have my prenatal appointments with them and because of my intentions they just have to suck up my decision not to have any testing, though apparently, my age has in the last year become a stand alone risk factor for pre-eclampsia...not that they seem that worried about me not having the glucose test. Or any other test.
Anyhow, if I don't pop in before, please all have a wonderful Christmas and see you on the flip side, where more announcements sound imminent ;)

Thanks for all the congratulations, everyone :heartbeat: I am SO IN LOVE with this little girl! I think I have a little processing I have to do re: how fast it all happened and the fact DH missed it all, but on the whole I'm so ecstatic about the fact that I DID IT. I only had one small moment of "I want to go to hospital", but that was right near the end when I just wanted a small break/sleep before pushing. Also known as transition :lol:
I can't remember, is there anything I should/could be doing about her cord stump? It's drying up already, but seems to be irritating her a little. Can I put a little coconut oil on there to make it more comfortable, or would that slow down the drying/falling off process?
ETA: Never mind about the stump question, ended up googling. First result was a BB article :lol: and I'll leave it alone :)

Glad you're enjoying your babymoon, Teni. I remember how surprised I was at DD2's quite quick birth, but in my case, everyone made it. This time, maybe not, but at least I'm expecting that this time. I'll just make sure the champagne is chilled ahead of time. ;)
Air compressor is getting a run tomorrow. Pool is going up end of the week. Now to just get past Xmas...
Smoke: that must be a big weight lifted off your shoulders regarding the new GP and the hospital beginning to be on board. i guess you know to keep yourself with a smile on your dial as you might find quite a few (even well meaning!) drs and midwives practically beg you to just transfer total care to them.
Teni: i can imagine that it will be a bit to process with DH missing the Main Event. How is he feeling about it? Quick births can be really intense, not just in a physical sense but also in an emotional one. I know that after DD3s birth I was a bit, maybe shocked? I dont know, i didnt feel i had the time to really revel in the event. it was all wham bam and done! i loved the birth and the environment was gorgeous, but yeah, i really relied on the pics that were taken to gaze over the whole thing later on.
which, if there is a next time i think i will actually hire a birth photographer...

Yes! I want a birth photographer. I really wanted one last time but knew DS1 wouldn't have coped with it. I think it would be fine this time though :)
I'm due at the very end of August Sterla so perhaps it will be a September baby! Who knows?! DS1 was born at 39+4 and DS1 was born at 41 weeks.
It's interesting starting to try and plan a HB in a new country. Searching for MWs is a bit of a bummer as we live about 1.5hours from a major hippie city and there are a gazillion MWs there but I've so far only found 4 MWs serving our local area. Will hunt some more but I have a gut instinct that one of them is the one anyway so perhaps it'll all work out without having to try too hard :)

Meow, in many places in Australia there are way fewer than 4 midwives working. I had a choice of 2 (plus a student), and they were an exact fit for what i wanted and needed. Best wishes in finding the right fit for you.

Teni- how is DH coping with it?
Yep quick births are full on even with a build up.
DH and I chatted a lot about Zoe's birth for us to process it, he was pretty shocked over the whole thing too and my body took a far hit from it being less then 30min. We also had to block out a lot of your 'lucky' nothing went wrong comments... Umm yes because even if it wasn't a planned hb what do you think would have happened people? Anyway this shouldn't be about me it's your time.
Thankfully you had your midwives there!! And your mum and dd. Just take your time to sort through what happened and talk to your midwives about it to. They will help you process.
E_p! That is great news honey! Wonderful news :). I think we were both pregnant together for a short time last pregnancy too. It is so exciting!!
So my plan...was to never have a cervical check but at my last visit we decided we would have one just out of curiosity. Ive been on both ends so I knew the answer wouldnt mean anything. BUT Im slightly weirded out by something. she said the head was freakishly low..but my cervix is high up by my head. Can this cause problems in labor? she didnt seem bothered by it and of course I didnt think to ask her this when I was there.
Sounds like bubs is just right in position to be born. And don't worry about what it is doing. It knows how to do it. Your gonna do great mrs!

Yay! I've emailed the MW I figured I'm pretty sure I want and we have an initial appointment set up for the 28th! Pretty much none of the MWs around here do in-home prenatal care but she does and she seems very 'with women' so I think it'll be a good fit. Fingers crossed :)
