Hi girls!

and a big hello to Teni and Arimeh :hello:

Teni: wahoooo! :dance: that is GREAT news about the midwife! hope you get the good news soon!! :crossfingers:

Arimeh: I'm the same as you, I like my people around me lol! that said, they have to be my welcome people ITMS. I will have mum, DD, DH, and the two midwives. I reckon it's also 'cause i know that DD and DH will need people for them there as well. last time DH felt really left out (being a hospital so pretty common i guess) and no one asked him if he was excited and what he would like. this time he is really really looking forward to the birth plan meeting and defining his role and expressing his wishes as well. i feel really chuffed to have him on board in such an active and involved way...yay for HB and IMs!!

Tashybabe: having the hossy bag packed for that reason is what my DH refers to as 'scaring the ghost away' (it's an italian proverb but yeah basically is to ward off the event rather than bring it on ITMS)...hmmm mebbe i should put a coupla things together lol! although they are all together pretty much in a drawer ATM...

AFM: had my midwife appt yesterday!! baby is head down, burrowing into the pelvis as we speak :dance: Nic reckons that she's there to stay now that her head is so far down...so one less worry out of the way. bubs was sitting transverse for most of the pg so i can't complain lol! ok, so i can complain about the constant headbutting of cervix, but ya'll know what i mean lol.
as i mentioned to arimeh we have our BIG PHAT birth plan meeting next (9 August)!!!!!! we are sooo excited. i will have nic, my second midwife sue and my backup helen there (as well as DH of course) and we will have about 2-3 hours to just go over everything. man, sooooo different to the 10 minute birth plan meeting with my OB where he told me that he can't stand ppl that come in with a list lol! DH is already planning a feast to feed everyone...including nutella pizza for dessert mmmm mmm mmmmmmmmmmm.

Teni: I'm so glad things are happening with the Sunshine program! TBH I would have thought they would write you off as "high risk" so I'm super happy for you!!

Arimeh's Eden: So what does this make this birth? A HBAVBA2C?! Woohoo!!! I get the same fears that this birth wont work out and I haven't had previous c-sects, so I can totally understand why you would have your moments of doubt. I guess so long as we are as informed and supported as possible then if things don't pan out then at least you know you've transferred for a good reason. I always wanted to HB my children but I went to a birth centre last time and I'm scared that I wont get my HB this time and I should have had one last time and I'll possibly always regret the choice. :pray:

Cassius: Wow- you're cooking dinner for your birth plan meeting? Hmm... we have a breakfast meeting with Helen on Friday and I think I will make those pancakes I was planning. You'll put me to shame! :lol: I'm really, really looking forward to our meeting on Friday. I've only had my booking in appointment so far so I'm glad to FINALLY start my care with Helen and this meeting my H is staying home sowe can all chat and they can meet each other. Yay!!!

Meow - how exciting to finally start out with your midwife!

I've suggested DH studies up on emergency childbirth just in case things go too quickly - he's cool with that. Is it a good idea do you think? I very much doubt it'll be too quick, but figure we might as well cover that angle just in case. Is there a good book or something?

My fear is that my body won't go into spontaneous labour. It's not really rational I know, but it's there. I spose the silliest thing is that the fear is only likely to hinder the start of labour... :wall:

Oh- birth plan meeting reminds me of when I took my birth plan to one of my midwife appoints at the FBC last time. I got the stupid young midwife I had a few times (who made me scared of birthing there- more of a medwife than a midwife). She took the time to read it and discuss each point which was good but basically either said "Of course we'll do that" or "Nope, that wont happen" and made the whole thing look like a waste of time. Once I was in labour though the midwife I had was awesome and she obviously read it before I arrived and she followed it to a tee- set up the room with dim lights, used the doppler as little as possible, automatically declined the hep-b vax for us etc.

I also meant to talk about my H being at the birth. My H was central to the whole thing last time- we spent most the labour at home, just the two of us and once we arrived at the birth he was always within 30cm of me (most the time I was leaning on him). At the birth centre I only had him, my doula and the midwife (who came in and out anyway) so it was beautiful and calm. I'm actually feeling like this birth might not be as good as we'll need people here for my son and even then my H might get distracted with them/him at times. And the midwives may end up here earlier in labour I guess. We'll see- but I would like it be all about my H and I again if we can manage it.

I got yep, yep, no problem for our birth plan. But then was induced so most of it went out the window anyway. And I was asked by several midwives whether I was sure I ddin't want an epidural (against my wishes). That was kinda good though, as I was starting to think about it and they ****ed me off so much it renewed my resolve not to have one.

As I understand it, HB midwives don't tend to come till things are well established anyway (unless you feel you need them) so you could still labour mostly alone, right? Maybe whoever is going to care for your son could take him out and just bring him back toward the end...?

I would have been SO mad if I was offered drugs! I had that in my birth plan- I didn't want them mentioned or even the gas to be visible (fear of medicalisation) and no-one did which was good.

I forgot to reply about emergency childbirth- I guess it can't hurt. For any birth though. We stayed home till I felt like pushing/bearing down last time and I could have had a born-before-arrival baby then but we never prepared for that. I guess my H would call the ambos and they would tell him over the phone what to do?

Sorry Arimeh's Eden ;) :lol: You'll be quite the birthing expert with your experiences! :D

My midwife came to visit this morning. First time for my H to meet her and it all went well. There sort of wasn't much to say actually as I think she expected more questions and concerns from my H but he's perfectly content with the whole thing so we're happily coasting along.

I asked her about the impact of the latest legislation- whether the fact that she now has insurance will impact my birth choices and whether the need to 'collaborate' (ie. subordinate to a doctor) for medicare will have anything to do with us. But all is fine and we'll jsut go along our merry way- only thing is she now has insurance for pre and post-natal care.

She felt baby's head and tried to get me to feel it- I think I did? I'm hopeless with that stuff!

It's been awhile since i popped in here!

meow: i have found that as bubba has gotten bigger and more predictable with where she is lying i can feel her head a heap easier...although i find her bum much nicer to pat lol!

Arimeh: it may be alot of letters but gosh darn it is impressive :) how are your plans and feelings for your homebirth coming along? i found there was soooo much to think about in the beginning as it was alot of theory and not much 'action' iykwim.

hope that everyone is travelling along AOK.

AFM: we are all good here. getting to the 'business end' of things now. have been to the naturopath to stock up on labour prep tinctures and postnatal support kits (anything to help me in my wish to avoid a repeat of PND!!).

ALSO: is anyone from Melbourne going to the BB screening of the australian homebirth documentary next tuesday night?? DH and i are thinking of heading along now that we have an offer of a babysitter...

Not sure if I still belong in here - cos we might be moving back to Queensland, and if I do that, then I'll go under the care of my old OB at Selangor (since they are very natural birth orientated!!)

But if we stay in tassie - then I'll have a home birth.. LOL

*snap* we also went to the BOBB screening lol! DD was 4 months old and we were able to take her along....noooo way we could do that now ROFL!

our other COOL news of the day is that we picked up the birth pool!!!! it is just sooooo real now :) it is a 'made in water' (la bassine). so excited :dance: we are going to pump it up and have a pool party tomorrow lol!

I am still coming to melbourne, will be there on the 5th September. And yes, another move may be on the cards, not sure yet. Depends if DH gets into uni or not for next year. If he gets in, then we will move up there, if he doesn't, we'll stay down here.

I'm still in the mid-pregnancy lull

Been talking to DH more about last time, which is good. We've both concluded that I shouldn't be allowed to make too many decisions for myself during labour - or at least not if we end up in hospital (I think we should be ok at home). I'm irrational and far too easily swayed.
