Never to be forgotten Sara!
Thinking of you Sara.
HotI...I used to get lots of crap about the back up plan too. I always said i had plans for the best case scenario (home birth) and worst case scenario (hospital). I used to ask people why they thought I should only plan for the worst case...surely the best case warrants planning too.
I'm getting so excited about the next home birth bub! Not long now!
Sara - thinking of you. Thank you for sharing the story of Reid's birth with us.
Mostly ppl haven't asked about transfer, but I have offered the info if the conversation has progressed. Thankfully, probably because it's close now, I haven't had negativity. I have a fair few dr and nurse friends, but all they did was give me recommendations when I asked about obs at the local hospital. I think DP had one less than positive comment early on from a dr friend, but she didn't say anything to me. No idea why, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm less than approachable!
We got the hose from the friend who lent us the pool and took it with us to get fittings. It was a bit trickier and the hardware guy did ask if we really needed that hose, but we have everything we need. Next thing for DP to install! He put in the baby capsule for me yesterday.
Baby has settled into my pelvis again, I'm feeling more pressure on my bladder all of a sudden. And I'm really tired again by the end of the day. Not to mention completely disinterested in moving away from home. DP nearly got his head bitten off when he told me he wanted to have his employees over for a BBQ! They're going out somewhere instead. ;) I think I'll start getting the room ready next weekend.
I'm still determined she'll be a January bub though!
Sara: I second Jennifer in thanking you for sharing Reid's birth journey. I am sorry that he grew wings  xx
Jennifer: I was like that too. i had forgotten about that! basically if it wasnt just a waddle down the road then i wasnt interested in those last few weeks lol. which is a big change for me as i am usually out and about and exploring non stop. i wonder if it was like that because i was having baby at home?
it stayed that way after her birth as well. i really enjoyed the act of 'slow' parenting ITMS.
Arcadia: i sooo need to PM you for a catch up! finally out of illness and family visits! slack bum that i am!
I have just started having 'i'd like to be a hermit' feelings this week (just gone 35 weeks pg), fatigue has kicked in at the same time. Unfortunately, haven't organised christmas or other things so can't quite hermitise yet. Spending the day at home and doing some cleaning.
M/w came today and I was right about baby dropping - she's engaged about half way and I'm measuring smaller now she's in launch position. *sigh* I now have the feeling I won't make it to Jan... Just a week more baby, please! I just seem to have finally almost gotten other things in order and I'd love the chance to rest up next week!
Hot1 - hope you get a chance to get everything done!
Oooo I finally felt my first contractions!!!
I probably shouldn't sound so excited, but given I've never had BHs it's nice to know my uterus actually knows what to do! It was last night at first, after a day of running around. Went away after lying down (and having a brief nap), but it was so tight and hard. I had some lower back niggles first, a bit like period pain, and then the top of my tummy went all hard. It didn't hurt so much as feel really, really tight.
I've had it a little this morning as well.
I don't think it's a sign of anything imminent, but OMG I wouldn't mind getting this baby's head off my bladder and pelvis. I can hardly walk upright atm!
Oxygen arrives tomorrow. I'm tempted to get out and do some serious gardening again on the weekend - seems to have got things moving in the right direction last weekend!
How exciting! Go uterus, do your thing!
Yay Jen!!! How incredibly exciting for you!!!!! just make sure you don't over do the gardening. Only do what makes you feel good. you don't want to be too tired out for this birth!!
I think i may have dropped too (and bub changed position). There seems to be more of a gap between my boobs and my belly than there has been.
God I wish I had!!! I have such a hard time breathing at times. I was engaged from 33 weeks with dd so i never noticed "dropping". I look forward to it this time.
I had my mother blessing today. 8 women gathered to honor me and bless me with their strength and love. It was wonderful and I feel very blessed by it.
Lol, I might be able to breathe better, but I sure can't walk very well!
Hot1, hope it means things are moving at your place too.
Oh jen I read your post as in you were going to garden cause the oxygen was arriving. I thought that's hard cord gardening rofl! Welcome mr braxton and mrs hicks! Do your thing ;)
Hoti such a lovely way of referring to baby dropping lol
Bella happy blessing way day ;)
This thread is getting exciting!
Ooooh, I'm getting excited for you Jen! And you too, HotI!
Your blessingway sounds beautiful Bella. I had one while preg with my 2nd child (my first HB). I clutched in my hand the rose quartz crystal that they 'infused' with their kind and inspiring words, during transition.
I got my pathology results for my ferritin levels (iron stores) today - and they are low. So I will start on a supplement ASAP.
Hello to everyone else.
Oh my gosh I’ve FINALLY had a chance to use my computer and get on here to reply to you all properly! Bub is over 3 weeks old now and doing really well – breastfeeding like a champ and growing so quickly! I’ve been trying to put some time aside to write my birth story and post it but I keep getting sidetracked – can’t believe how quickly the days go!
Thank you all so much for your congratulations and kind words – Caspar’s birth was truly life-changing and wonderful and I really can’t wait to have it all written out to share with you all. I honestly want to go back and do it all again NOW...so much for waiting a few years before we have another baby!
Wow – there’s so much happening in here!! The coming weeks are looking like they’ll be very busy in here!! Has anyone seen or heard from beansbeans?
Jennifer13 – sounds like things are really happening for you now! How exciting – reading through the last few pages it sounds like you have things pretty well set up! Can’t wait to read your BA soon!
It was ages ago that you asked but DS was wrapped in towels at first – I did buy a new one that was nice and soft and fluffy. After a few hours, while I was in the shower, DH and the MWs put a terry flat loosely around his bum and wrapped him up in a blanket and we hopped in bed together like that – I’ve washed and stored away the blanket but chucked the nappy because it was COVERED in mec the next morning! Did your mum end up choosing a wrap or blanket for bub straight after birth?
Bella29 – how are preparations coming along? Such great news that your placenta has moved away! I also love that you went through your transfer plans with your doula and then burnt them. How are you feeling after your mother blessing?
HotI – you poor thing having your MW visits moved so many times! Now long now until you’re down to weekly visits! How are your preparations coming along? It sounds like bub has made a move?
Thought I’d also say that I got HEAPS of questions about transferring – it was the main thing people asked me about. It was frustrating that it was all anyone was interested in talking about, but I think most often it was because they didn’t really believe it was possible for a woman to give birth naturally and that if I didn’t ‘give in’ and beg for drugs, something would likely go wrong and we would need to transfer, so it seemed pointless to entertain the thought that we would actually have a home birth. Pretty sad really.
Also, I’m sure you know this but I wanted to let you know what good hands you are in with your M/W. I knew she was wonderful before our birth but she was truly invaluable – she gave DH and I the space we needed when we needed it and was right there by my side when I needed her – all without me having to ask or tell. She was so intuitive, supportive and reassuring – I really don’t think we could have birthed at home without her...she is truly ‘with woman’. I’m dreading our last appointment with her and want to have another baby straight away so we have an excuse to keep seeing her!
Me+him+bub – welcome!! Congratulations on your new arrival & VBAC and all the best with your future HBAC plans!! A good friend of mine had a HBAC last year after a VBAC the previous year with a lot of intervention :)
Sara – I am so, so sorry for your loss. Thank you so much for sharing the story of Reid’s birth with us – I’m honoured to have read it. You have been in my thoughts xxx
Great to hear from you, eutra! Sounds like you are really enjoying your baby moon. Can't wait to hear Caspar's birth story.
Bella - your mother blessing sounds wonderful.
I am sending all of you girls close to birth wonderful uterus ripening vibes and birth blessings. I am so excited! i dont think we have had this many women close to birth at any one time in this thread before! so so lovely!
Bella: your blessingway sounds like it was just perfect
wow, so close for some of you! so exciting.
Sara- thankyou for allowing us to be a part if this journey xxx hugs to you. I'm so so sorry.
eutra- great to hear from you! glad all is going well.
afm, almost 30 weeks. its gone fast! scan is today. wish me healthy baby and placenta vibes.
Oh sweetie! goodluck for today :goodluck:
Thanks everyone! I need this baby to hold on till after I get my bathroom renovations finished, then it is free to come when it likes!
Louloubelle, good luck today honey. Healthy baby and placenta vibes to you!
Oxygen tank delivered!
I'm going to do some more gardening this afternoon. ;)
Hope today goes well, Loulabelle.
Bella - my m/w swears babies come when everything is done. When are your renos going to be done? We're having photos done on Sunday and that's my last thing.
Hey everyone, I'm new here, expecting a May babe (but possibly June, as I tend to be a longish gestater). Looking forward to birthing this little one at home, in the cottage we're moving into this weekend :) Already have two kiddos aged 6 and 3, boy & girl. Expecting another boy this time round, so excited. Look forward to getting to know you all.
Congrats chocolate a on your pg and great to have another HBer in our group. GL with the move!
Loulabelle, I hope your scan went well today. Thinking of you.
Welcome chocorama! All the best for your pregnancy.
Bella, I hope your bathroom renos are completed before bubs arrives.
Yay for the oxygen tank arriving, Jen. Have fun in the garden. I hope bubs waits until after your photo session.
Hi Eutra!
welcome Chocorama! :hello:
Loulabelle: i hope that everything went well today. have been thinking of you
Bella: bathroom renos...now i am officially envious! we have the smallest bathroom in the world and i swear that there are days i dream of taking a sledgehammer to it all
Hi Chocorama :)
Ash, good luck getting your iron up. Do you have an iron level cut off for HB? Here they are hesitant to deliver at home when your iron gets too low because it makes you more at risk for a PPH. That is why I had so many iron shots before E was born. Have you tried floradix? It makes me feel spewy but some people like it.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes for my Blessingway :)
Ash, I had low ferritin too. My GP reckons it would have been making me more tired. I am taking fero gradumet and also a powder that has lots of concentrated greens called Green Qi. I feel great!!! I found out around your gestation too. I hope you feel better when it is resolved. They also found my B12 was low so I supplimented that too. Oh and it is normal for your hb to drop in the second trimester and it is actually associated with better birth outcomes according to Michel odent. He says that it is due to haemodilution occurring which is what increases your blood volume. You do still need to have good iron levels, but if you have normal iron levels then it is normal for your hb to drop... does that make any sense?? You shouldn't just routinely take iron suppliments due to low hb, becuase a low hb in second - third tri just shows that your body is performing all of it's tasks right iykwim??
Welcome Chocorama!
Jen- well it looks like the ensuite could be finished before Christmas, but then the other Bathroom still needs to be done :) But it won't matter if that isn't finished. My MW dropped the pool off at the blessing way the other day :) yay!! But I still have to go get a hose..... Lotsa things to still get done, but hey I am only 37 weeks right, ages to go!??
Cas- I have waited so long to get these done!! Can't wait to see the finished product. So exciting!!
AFM- had a maternity shoot today. Lotsa fun!! I even got naked on the beach at one point!! Naughty girl. Lucky it was so close to raining that no one was around!!
welcome chocorama! contracts on your pregnancy.
bella- enjoy your blessingway.I would have lived to do that, but being interstate from my friends and family its not an option. the shoot sounds wonderful! bet you get fantastic photos and go you for getting it off!
ash- low iron and ferritin here too. I'm taking iron tablets and also black strap mollasis. my mw recommended it, you get from health shops. as well as iron, its full if other good stuff.
afm, I'm homebirthing!!! got given the all clear. am so so happy! placenta has moved well away from cervix and the extra lobe is above placenta. placenta looks to be functioning well. baby is on the smaller side but they are not really concerned as my others have been little too. back up hospital wants another scan at 34 weeks, but the ob who did ultrasound didn't think it was needed unless something comes up or I start measuring even more behind. all in all, a great result!
Yay Loulabelle!! That's fantastic news. Now you can really start to prepare. ;)
Fantastic news Loulabelle!!!! full steam ahead home birth!!!
woo hoo loulabelle!
:happyforyou:
what a wonderful day for you!! yay!!!
Boo.... I'm not preggo, but I will be at a homebirth soon ;) and just wanted to catch up with you all and see what was helpful to you all as far as birth support. I get the headspace thing, I needed that second time around with my VBAC baby... I will keep popping in for a week or two?
Hi christy :) with so many mammas here waiting I am sure you will hear lotsa talk
loulabelle - wonderful news!! All systems go now huh!!! Yayy!!
Ash - good luck boosting your iron levels! My ferratin dropped a bit in 3rd trimester, which is normal as your blood volume has expanded hugely...but my m/w suggested making smoothies and adding some spirulina...I also added some chia seeds for extra protein. They were delicious and helped with my heartburn too :)
Welcome Choco and Christy!!
36 weeks for me today. All good to birth at home now.
YAY HOTI!!!!! ahhh such a nice feeling when you reach that milestone!
Christy: oh you lucky woman! i would LOVE to attend a homebirth (mine, someone elses lol!). they are truly special!
woww HotI!! Not long to go now!! So exciting xx
