    Question Depo users

I was chatting to mum today about my sucky weight gain over the past 18 months or so. Its not a lot, about 5-10 kg I guess (I'm not a big person), but I don't like it :/

I've been more active than ever since living here, almost 2 years now. But I've still very slowly been gaining weight. I couldn't work out why.

Mum suggested it was maybe a mixture of depo & hormones. I've been on depo for the longest stretch since being single. Almost 18 months straight now. And this is also the longest time I've not been pregnant or breast feeding for (5 years straight before 12 months ago).

So I'm thinking she might be right, but since I've never used contraception for this length of time before, I have no idea how long it'd take my body to settle down & get used to it.

Anyone else have any experience with depo & weight gain? Did your body settle into it, or did you give up before it had the chance? I have no interest in going off contraception until the day I get my tubes done & I don't know when that'll be. I also like the whole no AF thing

I had depo once and I gained 38 kilos in 3 months!! I was a petite 58kgs prior to having it and I just ballooned! One week I even had a bad case of food poisoning and still gained 5 kilos in that week! Horrible horrible stuff. Saying that though, once it was out of my system, I lost 30kgs in less than 3 months.

I've gained 10kg since starting depo 3 years ago.

So the only thing I can really do then is to go off the depo? Maybe it's time to think about getting my tubes done...

just be mindful that coming off the depo can sometimes create a whole other series of problems. After my first depo I bled for 9 months straight before the GP finally decided to try me on the pill to re-regulate my cycles, this was after a concoction of different hormone tablets failed. Good luck with it, I don't like using any man-made contraceptions so if you are adamant that you are not having any more babies, I would book in to have your tubes done

I've been on & off depo for 10 years & not had a problem yet. Except that the longer I'm on it, the longer it takes for my body to regulate & for me to start ovulating & seeing AF again.

Tying my tubes isn't an easy decision to make... that's why I haven't made it yet. I don't want anymore babies, but I don't feel I'm ready for such a huge step either IYGWIM.
