    Castor oil vs hot curries??

Ok so I know this may cause all the soap boxes to come out and hopefully things don't get too heated but really what is the difference between taking castor oil and having a hot curry? I have tried castor oil in my last pg it did start contractions that stopped, caused the runs and was rather unpleasant. But correct me if I'm wrong the curry does the same doesn't it? So what's the big whoooo not castor oil stigma? It has not being proven to pass to bibs and just about every professional I have asked the same question agrees it's a myth.

    Remember play nice!

Well, when my DD3 was overdue my midwife told me I should try some of the old wives tale things such as a hot curry, castor oil & sex. I refused to try the castor oil because I tried it with DS1 and it is disgusting. I tried everything else and nothing worked. I ended up using acupressure and clary sage oil. It might have worked, but she was 4 days overdue and was most likely on her way out anyway

All the best for the remainder of your pregnancy.

I think the difference is that curries can speed up digestion, but not usually cause full on diarrhoea, and hopefully enable contractions. Whereas castol oil has a much stronger effect on the bowel and can lead to diarrhoea which will potentially cause the mother to become dehydrated when she is trying to labour.

I think the reason castor oil is frowned on sometimes is because it has very unpleasant effects and is not effective. I don't know that curry is either, but at least it tastes nice.

I was under the impression that castor oil can cause the baby to pass meconium? But could be wrong.

FWIW I ate a whole chilli, had a vindaloo, went for walks on the beach, used clary sage, and did so much acupressure I got bruise - and bub still didn't want to budge!

Just ramping up the old thread

I was only chatting to a friend the other day and what surprised just said happened to her with bub passing meconium from the castor oil, she said it didn't even give her the runs.

Curry is meant to be eaten, it's a food?
    Castor oil is not

Mmm I just tried the curry Thursday night, didn't do a thing, didn't even get the runs if anything I was more blocked up than normal. don't think I'm desperate enough to try the castor oil. Although have heard there is a person in town who does reflexology so might give that a go next week if nothing has happened.
