Can I ask a question...?

I have a question that I hope someone will be able to answer for me, I hope that I dont offend anyone by asking.

A few years ago I was going to an all women gym. There were a number of muslim women who attended as well. On one occassion one of the girls had removed her head scarf to do her work out. I was watching her as she put it back on, and it seem that she was following a ritual and prayer as she replaced it. It looked very beautiful and important, and at the time I was too shy to ask her the significance of the process she had gone through.

So, is there a prayer that women follow when puting on their headscarf? And if there is one, and it is ok to discuss, could someone please explain it?

concerning your question. as far as I know there isnt any specific ritual for putting on hijab/scarf. you would probably laugh when im putting mine on, i just chuck it on, adjust it so its comfy then im out the door lol

i know some ladies are really particular about how there scarf sits making sure that it looks very neat and that it has a fold in the right place etc, so maybe that why she was doing it like that?

next time, im sure no one would mind if you went up to them and asked, i know i wouldnt

I cant belive that you just 'chuck it on' - when my DH and I travelled in Turkey I was amazed at the beauty of the scarfs and how proud the women were of them.

I can put mine on quickly coz the way i wear it isnt really a 'scarf' as in the ones that wrap around. mine is like this wide and long peice of material with a hole at the top big enough for the face, its really comfy n cool and easy to just chuck on lol

I don't actually get what you meant about a ritual prayer? Like, do you mean is putting the scarf on a form of prayer? (soowwii, I was browsing this forum and was just curious as to what you meant).

Muslim women cover up because they believe God commands modesty both in terms of conduct and dressing. And I think you asked a good question.

like ummadam i chuck mine too. We probably wear the same type of cover and i wear a veil too which means i need to tie it on after the chuck on. soemtimes if im in a hurry i let eyebrows loose! (umm adam i bet u know what im on about).

before veiling i used to wrap my scarf. It was always neat and tight and used to take me 10 seconds to put it on.

I minimised it to 5 scs. LOL. chuck.. tie ... go!
