My DD was 14 when I had DS and she has had people ask her if he's hers LOL (she is very quick to point out that he is her BROTHER LOL)
When I had DD1 my mum minded her and she often got comments like "do you have any other kids?" She loved it cause she was 50 when Jess was born!!
I am like Smiles now, I worry I look too old to be Riley's mum LOL I do love the "OMG you have a 17 yr old, you don't look old enough" comments though!!
I have been asked a few times (then shunned) when I reveal I'm not DS's nanny.
But then, my mum came into my work last month. I'm bloody sick of hearing that she looks like my sister! I'm nowhere near being in my 50s! My mum loves it though.
My mum and I were both about the same age when we gave birth to our firstborns. She felt like an old crone because girls younger than her in her birth group were all on their 4th children, I felt odd because I wasn't approaching 40!
I must be looking old now - when DS was tiny I was his nanny, now I must have plenty more children ("really? he's an only one?") because I look so shot. (Or because I make it look so easy/natural... think happy thoughts!)
oh dont you love the comments! I've been asked a few times when I'm picking the boys up from school if they are my brothers :S crazy lol
I often get asked if I'm babysitting too.... what crazy young person would have so many children :P
Grrrrr today some random man in his 40s had a whinge right behind me in the line of toys r us about how young girls only have babies for the baby bonus and we dont know how to look after kids as we are only kids ourselves!:wall: Then Mr. On-his-soapbox whinged about the baby bonus and parenting payment came out of HIS taxes :wall: :wall:
Uh hello dude my sons well dressed, well feed and these toys?? Aint for me. How the bloody hell would I fit in an infant swing??? We have a 30 yr old car i only buy clothes on sale and my 1 luxury is the internet (which is like $30 a month). Yep living like a Latin King on your taxes and the baby? He fends for himself cz I have no idea
(Id like to add as he was saying how irresponsible I must be and blow all my money Im standing there in $8 shoes *sigh*)
In conclusion People Are Idiots (well at least Mr. On-his-soapbox is)
I got lots of 'Oh, your pregnant, but your so young' when preg with #1 and i was 28! Cant help having good genes I suppose!
My sister had her daughter when she was 19-20 and it was always assumed i was the mother when we were out together!
People just NEED to comment on life, whether its their business or not!
Tell them you got her on ebay lol
Oh no, I know I'm going to get these comments. I'm 24 so I don't think I'm that young but a few months ago someone delivered a package to my door and asked if I was over 15 coz I had to be over 15 to sign for it!!!! wtf?? rofl. So I must look young. Must look like a pregnant 15 yr old now, great.
Oooh, I cannot WAIT for all these to start happening! XD Thankfully everyone in my family have all had kids around my age, so I have a nice lttle support system around me, but the outside world is never quite as forgiving!
So far I have received the "oh no, your life is over speech" - Yes, my life is over, and a whole new a better one is going to start
and
"don't you know what contraception is" - YES, I do. Infact, I used a condom & the morning after pill when that busted and I'm still pregnant. This stubborn little bub was comin into this world whether I liked it or not! It was just meant to be... (and don't get me wrong, I'm so madly in love with the little wriggler inside me it isn't even funny) ... and my DF and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thankyou very much! ><;
cindyb is right, people do just have to comment about life. Perhaps there isn't anything better happening in theirs!
Haha! Would have served her right too!:
What. The. Francis? I would have taken my legs out of the stirrups and kicked her in the teeth!
i know how you al feel i was 19 hen i had my first then 20 but i look alot younger as well and im only 5'5 so not that short but not that tall i used to get lots of comments when i was pregnnt with my last but ive learnt to shrug them of since i get alot of crap from my family for having 3 so young even though they do love them to peices, they dont get babysat very often, but i got married when my first was 10 mths old and we had wo more and i still want another 2 or so more i dont think its anyones business and if my family dont support me then its not theirs either
Next time just roll your eyes and say "oh but I NEEDED a plasma" and walk off...
When I was 17 my dad had a son with my step mum. If I was pushin g him around the shops people would ask if he was mine and I would reply 'No!!! He is my brother". So I suppose people should just not pressume anything.
Don't worry about what other people think. Be proud that you are a yummy mummy and have a gorgeous daughter that stops people in their tracks.
i was 27 when I was pg with DS, so not exactly a young mum. I was shopping with my mum at a baby shop and the assistane starts asking her all the questions (my mum would have been 48) and askes her when the baby is due etc. She laughed so hard I got embarrassed and we had to leave the shop.
People are going to make all sorts of assumptions. I know at mothers group on the first meeting there were 5 of us there, and one girl looked pretty young. I remember thinking she looked a lot younger than the rest of us, but didnt really say anything. Well, she either knew we were thinking it or had copped some criticism from ourside cos she said ' you all think Im 16 dont you! haha Im 25, hapily married and just lucky I look so young!' and good on her!
Like Bath I do wish I'd been in a position to start having my kids younger, there are so many extra things to worry baout, age related risk stuff, not to mention trying to keep up with them.
Mum had me at 21 and my brother at 23 and it was awesome having younger parents growing up. Other kids were jealous!
i personally just dont understand it in the "old" days most ppl had kids at a young age and know in a day where alot of morals are out the window we get judged for it . i thik ppl should worry more abou there own standards and not worry about us coz were not hurting anybody and are the least of the worlds problems yet we get the most crap
I am 22 and my husband is 47 so people tend to assume I am in my 30s at least. I don't think I look that old but, whatever!
My mother is disaproving that I am "young" and pregnant. She didn't want me to be pregnant until I was at least 28 but it's not her life, is it?
I have had no comments yet but of course I havent had a baby yet either! However I have had rather rude comments from some of the people I work with.
This is the best thread ever. I love to vent.
I fell preg with DD1 at 16, had her when i was 17 and i got asked how old i was while working on a checkout at kmart. When i told her i was 17 she told me i was a stupid girl. How rude, at first i wanted to cry but then seconds later as she was walking off i wanted to knock her out i was so angry, how dare she judge me, when i fell preg they didnt have the baby bonus so i hardly did it for the money did i.
I get "the looks" all the time and if ppl give me greasies i give em back. I can guarantee i love my kids just as much if not more than they love theirs and im a better mother than more than half of the mothers out there so they can stick that where it fits and if someone was to DARE to comment about my age boy would they get a mouthful, they have absolutely no idea about my life. Alyssa was an accident but by far the best most beautiful accident ever.
Charli was almost 2 weeks old when i went shopping with my bestie from qld and i got a look from a lady, I'm 21 and for all they knew she was my 1st as i didnt have alyssa with me. Needless to say i didnt actually see the look my bestie did and she commented on the ladies sour looking Face loud enough so the lady could hear. I was so proud of my bestie that day sticking up for me :D
I generally find old ladies very understanding and kind and most aren't judgemental. In saying all that though i can also understand how sometimes ppl assume things, i know girls who are young who go out shopping every week and blow there money on crap and dont give a rats about their kids, those kind of girls are the ones im most mad at cause they are the ones who give me and ppl like us a bad name.
OMG Nee, that is extremely rude, i would have threatened to take it to the media if the hosp did nothing. Some ppl.:
"I'm surprised you even know what a condom is, being pregnant at 17"
When DD was in hospital I constantly got the look from people, the comments and the Doctors talking to me like I was an i***t. It was soon that they found out that I was 26 and alot more capable than most of the women that were older than me.
I looked after my nephew alot when he was born (I was 16 and just finished year 11) I always got looked at then as I looked young for my age, it was horrible as he was my nephew. I would give him a lolly and I was frowned apon, I would tell them that an Aunty was allowed to spoil there nephew and they would change there tune.
I also still get the look whilst walking round the shops with DD. When will it ever end.
