FSH Injections story

Hello,
I thought it was time to stop lurking and introduce myself!!



I have PCOS and have been ttc for a few years now but only actively with assisted conception for about two years. Those two years were mainly trying clomid cycles that did nothing at all. I also lived about two hours away from my FS so a lot of time was wasted with that because I couldn't really frequently see him and monitoring a cycle was nigh on impossible. I am now back in a big city and have a new FS who has finally started me on FSH injections.

Well everything started off quite slowly until two weeks into the injections I all of a sudden produced about 60 follicles. My FS was concerned about OHSS so we cancelled the cycle. So now I am waiting to go back in two weeks. A sort of different two week wait!!

So now you know me and my story and I hope to be able to join in with all of the discussions on this board! Hope there might be some FSH buddies out there!!

Like you, I also suffer from PCOS and was found to be clomid resistant so I was put on puregon (fsh) injections and I finally ovulated on time! AND, even better - I fell pregnant that cycle as well! The problem with FSH is that it needs to be monitored quite carefully - we had to up my dose from 50IU, to 75IU and finally to 100IU before I ovulated.

I hope your TTC journey ends shortly and you'll be announcing that BFP any day!

Hi thanks for your reply. Great to hear you conceived on the first go with Puregon!! It gives me hope. I started on 75 and then finally at 150 I overstimmed. I think at least something happened! I am fairly positive I have never ovulated naturally if at all in my whole life so I was glad that my stubborn ol PCO ovaries finally listened to at least part of the instructions!!

This is my first time on this site, and reading through some of the stories I'd thought I could share mine.
At this present moment in time, my husband and I are waiting to take a pregnancy test next week. We have been ttc for approx 4yrs now, and only in the last 12mths have looked into why it wasn't happening. I have suffered from irregular periods since I was 16, and never looked into it. Until about a year ago when I was diagnosed with PCOS. And also not to help things, my husband's sperm count was quite low and of those that were there, they were a mixture of good, slow and abnormal... talk about a good match up!!! Anyway, I was put on Metformin to try and assist things, but the FS I was seeing then, had me straight on the maximum dose. I ended up 'overdosing' on it and ended up with a severe side effect known as Lactic Acidosis. I knew something was wrong, but the FS didn't believe me, so along with a wonderful invention called "Google" and with help from my GP, we worked out that I had Lactic Acidosis. So forward to December last year we saw a new FS and she is absolutely wonderful. Very caring and understanding. She didn't want to put me on Metformin so I went to Clomid. 5 rounds of this and no increase or result anywhere - except in June this year I ended up in hospital with a Left Ovary torsion - or 'twisted ovary' - 7 times twisted. I was extremely lucky to not loose the left ovary and fallopian tube - thanks to some quick thinking from my husband and an awesome team at the hospital. After a 3mth break to let my body recover, my FS directed us to her Fertility Clinic, where we were to start an IUI round. This required me to do daily FSH injections - Purgeon. The first 2 days I couldn't inject' myself, so I had hubby do this, but quickly learnt to do myself as the 2nd day he moved the needle on the way out and it hurt like hell!!! I was monitered with a couple of scan to check how many folicles I was producing and in the end I had 1 rather large folicle. I was given a 'trigger' to make sure I ovulated and I was inseminated. That was 9 days ago now. I had a progesterone level blood test done yesterday and it came back at 52? Our nurse said that with this type of treatment they like to see over 20.... But I'm now thinking....waiting....thinking more..... Does this mean with such a high level I may be pregnant? Or is it just a good result to the treatment and I'm not pregnant.... oh I don't know. I have to have a preg test next week but the waiting is killing me!!!!! But like my hubby keeps kindly reminding me... 'good things always come to those who wait!".

Hi Poppy thanks for sharing your story. Yes waiting is not nice, I am currently waiting fro starting IVF later this month, so we may be on FSH at the same time.

I am fairly new to the whole forum posting thing and i now don't feel so alone. there are so many people in simular situations. I also have PCOS but only found out about three months ago have been trying to conceive for 2 years went and saw an FS and because i live in the country 7 hours from sydney i said i didn't want to mess around i wanted to try the treatment that would be the easiest to manage from a distance like you said the clomid and such need very close monitoring so we decided to go with IVF and also do ICSI we started just last week am still on spray but am having my blood test on tues and hopefully i start on FSH on wednesday.

Hi all my name is sandy and i've been ttc for what feels like forever i've seen a lot of doctors over the past few years and all they have ever told me is lose weight and i'll be able to have a baby but as most ppl with pcosknow its hard im now at my biggest at 123kg but have now found the best doctor who say that i can still have a family, i've had clomid but this did not work so i'll soon be starting fsh injections and i'm not to sure how i should be feeling i dont wanna get my hopes up but its had when you hear thatppl fall pregnant first time i hope its my time soon.

Just wanted to welcome you to BellyBelly and wish you luck on your AC TTC journey.

There are wonderful, supportive people on BellyBelly (BB) who can really offer understanding as to what you're going through. You should join in some of the threads such as the LTTTC&AC thread here. There's people there who are going through their first cycle like yourself and others that have unfortunately much experience in AC, but are very happy to share their experience and knowledge to help you in your journey.

Starting FSH injections for the first time is really scary - I felt that way - it's funny, but I found I did get used to doing them quite quickly. I really hope that it's only the one round of FSH you will need to do and that you have your baby in your arms before long.

Hi, my name is Jess and this is my first post. I have PCOS and have been TTC for almost 3 years. We first started on Clomid which didn't really help, we then had one round of IUI which wasn't successful. Our FS then suggested IVF which we are just in the process of starting now. I started on the FSH injections yesterday - it was quiet scary this morning having to do it myself. I will have a blood test and scan on Monday to see what is happening. It is good to be able to ready about other peoples experiences and to know you are not alone in what you are going through.

Hoping this is the right spot

We were hoping to try IUI this month so I was placed on gonal-f initially 75ui then after a bt 150 ui. I then went in for a scan and on had on small follical - so they have canceled this cycle calling it a non-ovulatory month.

Being 44 is our hughest hurdle. Last month when we were seeing what was going on I had a FSH level of 4 on day 3. This month it was 14. I hope this doesn't mean that this is the end for me.

I have on DD who is 3 (concieved naturally) but would love another.

Has anyone else had a cycle cancelled then the next month was fine????

welcome!! I got confused cos this thread was started a few years ago then revisited, but you'll find someone on here in one of the threads that may have had same experience as you and can give you some answers. Or start your own, we're all pretty friendly!

Hi all, not sure if this is the right spot to post but Sandy83 I could relate too.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 and overweight also & in Adelaide. My fiancee & I have been ttc 18mths but only been seeing a FS in the past couple of months. DF 1st SA was low morphology & count was on the low side of normal, then started taking Menevit & the 2nd SA was all good with count doubling & good morphology so now just up to me to ovulate. We started on clomid which I ovulated on but FS thinks the timing was a bit off so next cycle he wanted to try FSH injections which I was on 66IU per day, monitored closely with scans & BT & ovulated after having some pregnl triggers of 1 x 5000ml & 2 x 1500ml. I have just had the waiting game & was due to have a pregnancy BT tomorrow but unfortunately AF arrived yesterday. I am devastated & finding it hard to deal with actually as I found the past month very stressful with going to clinic every cpl days for scans & BT, trying to balance work (who aren't very understanding), DF says have been moody, have been suffering from panic attacks so been seeing a fertility counsellor also.

Moving forward we are going to do another ovulation induction on FSH & then discuss with FS at next appt moving forward whether we will do IVF. I have taken some leave off work so hoping this month will be less stressful!

Thanks to these forums as I have felt a bit more relieved that unfortunately I'm not alone & it seems everyone here is so supportive.

gosh its crazy reading all these stories, u really think this can only happen to me until u read or come across amazing stories like this!!

instead of lurking on this thread i thought i might post and see how everyone is

I have been ttc with my husband for 2 years and honestly sandy i can totally relate to ure story with the weight and pcos i was diagnosed wen i was 17 but never knew that it could affect things like this until we saw our amazing FS at monash!
all u ladies are inspirational everytime i want to give up on FSH injections or clomid cycles i just read your stories im hoping with my next cycle of FSH starting in janueary after a nice break things might start to look up theres nothing worse then being told u cant have kids unless u shed some serious kilos ugh! all i can say is good luck to everyone trying out there i wish nothing but the best to u all and to all who have had positive results congratulation xxxxx

I think I finally found my thread! I too have PCOS and have been trying for over 12 months (have done 5 cycles of highest Clomid + Metformin and nothing).

A new FS says I could have laparoscopy to burn the follicles and that often results in natural ovulation. Has anyone heard of this?

The other options is FSH injections. Are these difficult to manage? I work full time and travel a bit for work so am worried that I won't always be able to do the testing and monitoring etc.
