Determined to get it! Any tips/blogs/sites to aid a newbie/slow learner, lol!!!

I have decided to learn to knit. I have managed to make a scarf from a pattern I was given 2 years ago - so keen to keep going. I bought some similiar wool but it seems that it is not giving the same finish on scarf #2. So do you normally buy the same brand as the pattern? I was given some SIRDAR Big Softie Wool which I imagine would be very forgiving as it is thick and fluffy! I tried to match the specs on the label but it is not quite as good.
So any tips/tricks/advice or resources you can suggest???
    TIA

Lion brand yarn is good, also if you search you tube there are some really helpful how to vids.
Good luck, I love to knit, especially in winter

I managed to do a scarf in Stocking stitch which looks quite good! So off to get the same yarn again and try something else. Definitely a good thing to do infront of the TV rather than eating!!!!

The book stitch and b I t c h is really good, caters for beginners and has some good patterns in it. They also have a crochet one as well.

I have been teaching myself as well, I bought a booklet from Lincraft, produced by patons called "Learn to Knit", it has a lot of patterns, lessons, handy hints etc in it. I have been making scarves and beanies, now doing a cushion cover. I found it good cos you advance bit by bit and learn new stuff with each thing you make. Good luck! I will be making a jumper soon- scary!

I learnt to knit by you tube, find a simple pattern you would like to do and then search for all of the terms you don't know. Start small!!

I never match the wool to what's in the pattern, which is probably why I end up with odd sized things

I find it helpful to count your stitches every few rows.

As you have girls knit them blankets for their dolls. This way you can try new stitches and if you make a mistake they won't care.

Try a bigger size needle with your second scarf. The bigger the needles the quicker your garment is finished
