Knitted nativity scene - too hard for a beginner?

    Hi crafty ladies,

I have knitted a few easy things before like scarfs and a toy bunny for DD when she was a baby. I'm thinking about starting a knitted nativity scene - it obviously wouldn't all be finished by this Christmas though.

Do you think I'm throwing myself in the deep end?

I am thinking that I'll download a pattern - start with the main characters and just do one person/animal at a time until its all done.

Also, any tips in picking a pattern?

Just got myself a jean greenhowes Christmas special knitting book from gumtree for $5

It's sooooooo gorgeous - I just love it and can't wait to get started

I'm not a huge knitter and I've managed stuff from the Jean Greenhow books - they are so cool hey?

I'm sure you could give it a go and if it's too hard then leave it until you've got a bit more experience or something.

    Good luck.

I've almost finished my very first crocheted doll. I'm so super proud of myself. I always thought they would be hard to make but once I started I realised it wasn't the case. Now I just have to hope the little girl I'm giving it to likes it.

    Thanks for the replies ladies

I'm definitely going to give it a go - I wish I had a list of wool now so I could get it before the book arrives lol.

I have knitted a you rabbit but that was years ago - ill just keep my friend google close so I can check things if I get confused lol.

Tanstar - they are adorable! I couldn't stop looking at pictures of all different ones - the one I picked only has a couple of sheep as the animals so I'm hoping to do some other animals at the end too.

Ausgirl - I love the book I got - there is a bunch of Christmas stuff in it too so I can do a few Christmas projects over time. Her designs are sooo gorgeous!

Jewel - I'm sure the little girl will love it! I love the handmade gifts that DD has - although it makes it harder to cull now that she has so many coz I don't want to get rid of any! I have no idea how to crochet lol
