That's why I love crocheting - it grows quickly when using some of the taller stitches - trebles, half trebles & double trebles mainly with doubles for the white

So a week ago it was a friends baby shower. 3 days before someone else reminded me how she'd seen owl beanie's at the baby expo a couple of months earlier, but didn't buy one cause they were all very 'boy' or 'girl' and she doesn't know what she's having. So I decided to go crazy and have a crack at making one, despite never making one before. Gotta say, I'm pretty damn happy with how it turned out, especially given I hadn't ever tried this before and I started 2 days before her baby shower.

Having to do a double post to show off the next one. When my niece saw a photo of the beanie she got all excited and asked Nanny to buy her one. Nanny told her Aunty Dee made it so she just had to call me and ask me to make her a pink and purple one. Pretty sure this makes me the best Aunty ever :p

So happy with them both. I also want to have a go at other animals now so I think I'll have to find a pattern book somewhere and actually teach myself to read a pattern (which currently I can't :redface: )

That's gorgeous! I've got a similar pattern here waiting for me to make too. I just have to find the perfect colour.

I finished crocheting a cowl but I haven't gotten around to looking for some buttons for it so it's not completely done just yet. Other than that I've been quite lazyyyyyyyyyyy.

I've made my first beanie! Actually, I've made 3 this week :) Found an awesome all rounder pattern on Ravelry, gives the basic pattern and you just keep increasing til it's a certain size for prem, baby, toddler, teen, woman or man. So far I've made a preemie, baby and woman, all in different colours. I wanna try another kind of hat soon - there's so many awesome patterns on Ravelry!

I have almost finished knitting that bloomin jumper I've been working on forever. Just waiting on MIL aid on the stupid collar. In the mean time I've moved onto trying out a bootie pattern for the pickle. It's looking ok.........

Joined! Now suffering from an inferiority complex though - I've done 2 projects, both the same thing, and you've done approximately a bazillion. And it says you've been knitting for 3 years, and yet you're making clothes. I have been knitting for 10 years and can only successfully make scarves. And one time, I made a shawl. :rofl:

Oh, don't be too concerned, it is all front! I have been knitting officially for 3 years, I *knew* how to knit for about 10 years prior to that but that is if you call misshapen items, knitting with unintentioned holes, beginning and never finishing hundreds of scarfs and accidental picking up and dropping of stitches 'knitting'! I was more of a crocheter and was reasonable with that. Then I went through post natal depression last year and the thing which kept me sane was knitting. That and Ravelry created the perfect set up for my knitting to take off.

Mind you, making clothes… you will notice that all my pieces are small, quick knit (quick gratification ;)) no big impressive committed items in my list, just enough to make my knitting prowess look good at a glance :lol: AND I have never successfully knit a scarf!

Plus, don't you have some Afgan glory you should post about?? I'd love to see some pics and details of that work. :)

I just use it like a google for patterns. I tell the search engine I want a free crochet pattern for, say, a toddler beret, and it spits out links to patterns that I check out and pick what I like best :D Some more seasoned Ravelers can probably tell you more about how to actually 'use' the site better, but that's all I do for now

I too use it like a giant library for patterns and ideas. I have also just found a knitting group in Adelaide I've joined.

As a knitter or a crocheter it is an awesome reference for patterns and inspiration.
You can search for patterns you might like, read up on how others found a pattern, ie some faults they found or some tricks or tips to make the item better, search for the best yarn to use for something. It can take you down the rabbit hole a bit if you do things like check out people's projects and then follow on to things they liked, I have found some stunning inspiration that way.

Mostly I love the fact that each pattern that is on there has all the projects people have made with that pattern linked. That way, if I like the pattern I can see how it knits up in a particular colour combination, how a particular yarn turns out etc without having to do the experimentation myself. Information from other's projects have also led me to great resources and links around the net to complete a project such as an awesome wig tutorial for making dolls hair.

I also love using it to keep track of what I have done by keeping notes so I can replicate the item if I want. It is a very user friendly way of keeping track of what you have made, how you made it and what you might do differently if you try the pattern again or use a particular yarn again. Plus, I do love being able to look back at my work as most of what I make is given away and without the Ravelry project page, I would most likely have no record at all.

This is my first foray into using it in a more personal way - starting up this group - and I am looking forward to being able to see more of the projects everyone is talking about here!

I just found out you can keep a record of your stash, what you bought and when, how much each project took up. Freakin awesome! And then later, you can look up patterns based on yarn used, which includes anyone who has ever uploaded their project details. It really is an AWESOME site :)
