What's on your hook?

    What's on your hook?

What's everyone working on at the moment?
    ... or have recently finished?
... or even planning to make?

oh and how do you store your hooks?
I'm thinking of sewing a little something for mine. I don't have that many, only 3, but they seem to fall down the couch pillows or to the bottom of everything everytime I put it down.

  2. What's on your hook?

    :

on a crocheting break at the moment - just don't seem to have much time but I keep my hooks in a clear plastic pencil case (yellow see through one). I have far far too many hooks multiples of most of them
Last thing I made was a bolero looking top - ended up being either too tight (sleeve wise - so not wide enough) or too short at the back (not long enough in the end). I was adjusting a pattern that I'd made before but was using different yarn and hook and I'd made it last before being pg so for some reason that changed everything
Will have to start thinking about a baby blanket for Freckle. (Best get onto that in the next week - He/She will be likely be arriving in about 10 or so weeks)

  3. What's on your hook?

    :

I have just completed a cute little mobile with 5 crochet, colorful stripy fish and some seaweed. It is a gift for a newborn in our family and will be delivered tomorrow It was such a quick easy project and I am so happy with how it turned out.

No plans for anymore hooking soon, a few knit projects it the back of my mind but a whole lot of sewing planned before I can get to that!

As for my hooks, I did sew up a quick holder for all of my hooks, needles, scissors etc as I was so sick of trying to find the right tools when I had some yarn, a pattern and a hankering to get creative. It's just a simple roll pouch with a pocket for each size needle or hook.

Anyone on ravelry? Most of my projects are stored there.
Lectern, do you have any ideas on the blanket? I love baby blankets! I have a few queued to make but no babies due to make one for

  4. What's on your hook?

    :

I have several patterns - usual one is a granny square but with bobbles instead of 3 trebles on the sides. Also have done an alphabet one - mostly double crochet. Have got several pattern books on different types of baby blankets - might hunt them down and try something different (I won't admit that I have FAR too many patterns for things I will never get around to making that I've picked up over the years)

Eta Jackrose that mobile looks cool - might have to grab that pattern off you so I can actually make that one for freckle

    :

Im up to the first sleeve on a jumper I've been knitting DS since last June lol! Im so sick of the damn pattern! In that time I've made a gorgeous blanket, pink minkie bobbles with a cream crocheted edge for untoldangel's lil girl, a knitted jumper for xmas for a friend's lil boy and... something else which I really can't think of right now.
I bought a multi pack of stainless steel crochet hooks for my sister that came in a leather zip up case that looked like those manicure kits but a bit bigger. Fantastic idea and just had elastic loops for the hooks. I keep mine with my knitting needles in a plastic tube from spotlight cos it's DS proof and bend proof.
Next I'm making a blanket & a tea cosy, got all the supplies but I HAVE to finish this jumper, i officially hate moss stitch with 4ply! NEVER AGAIN!

    Jackrose that is gorgeous!

    :

Leckert - That's a good idea for storing your hooks. I might use something like that for the moment until I feel like sewing something else. Low motivation slump at the moment. Good luck with making the blanket for your newest bubba
I need to get myself motivated to make DS2 a blanket for his bed. I just can't seem to start it cause I know it's going to take a while to make but I feel bad cause I've made one for me and DS1. Lol Oh well, I'll get there eventually.

Jackrose - Very cute mobile. I like ravelry. I don't have any projects on there or anything. I like to browse around when I'm bored.

Angelpants - Wow. You've been busy with making things. Awesome! Good luck with the jumper. I bet it'll look smashing when you're done!

I've been a bit slack lately. I'm making dolls and stuff. I made the first one for a christmas present (but I don't think it was really appreciated) then a lady suggested to make that same doll and put it in the local show so I did. I won first prize! yay! then the lady who suggested it wanted to buy it from me, so that was an added bonus. I'm currently making a princess version of the same doll, and thinking about changing the dress and other stuff and making the next one a ballerina. My mum said she wants to try and sell them at the local markets since she already has a stall, etc, so we'll see how that goes.

Here's a couple of photos. She can be dressed and undressed. Here and here.
Hope the pictures are not too big for you guys.

Jewel she is adorable! I especially love the shoes and the hoodie, and that tiny little thumb! Nice work and congratulations on the prize and the sale!! What size is she and where did you find the pattern?

I completely understand about the unappreciated doll. I knitted one last year for DD and she was pretty meh about it. It has grown on her a bit since then but at least I enjoyed the process of making it! That is always the way I look at making things. Make it for the enjoyment of the process rather than the end product. If it works and is loved, bonus. That way I am not disappointed.

AngelPants - Good luck with the jumper, 4 ply in anything bigger than baby booties sounds like a headache! I hope you are able to find the motivation to get through it. My mother started knitting a dressing gown (it was the 70s ) for my older brother when he was two, she never finished it for him but kept knitting it for each of her next 3 children. By the time the last child was 4, I remember her finally giving up and unravelling it! Don't let that happen to you!! Although at least it sounds as if the jumper has been a great motivator to do other projects!

Leckert - you can find the mobile pattern free online - it is the Undersea Mobile by Lion Brand Yarn. Unfortunately you do have to sign up to their site to access it (no cost etc just a nuisance). I am happy to send you my copy by email if you want to avoid that though. It was so much fun to make as they fish were so quick. That is what I like about crochet, quick and satisfying!

I love ravelry! I love browsing, getting inspired, being able to keep track of my projects - especially when I need to revisit them as I can easily check out the alterations I made at the time which I would otherwise never remember. I especially love the fact that when you decide to make something, you can check out others work, get their helpful hints and modifications and see how other yarns knit/crochet up in the pattern. It takes so much guess work out of the planning.

Even though I said no more yarn crafts for me for a bit, I did knit up a super quick little heart for DD last night. It is divine, fits in the palm of your hand. I gave it to her to take to kinder today and she was thrilled. Now, for me, back to the sewing machine… or maybe one more browse through ravelry...

  8. What's on your hook?

    :

She's roughly about 33cm. I'll send you a pm with a link to the site.

I originally made the doll to see how I'd go, etc. so am very proud of it and how it turned out. Now I can whip them up in no time. lol. I tried so hard not to let it get to me at christmas and be disappointed about it being unappreciated (I'm over it now). If I had another little girl to give it to I would have because this little girl is very spoilt so she had tons of other things and the doll just got shoved in a bag and that's the last it was ever seen, but anyways what can you do. I guess I'll think twice next time if I ever think to make anything for her again. (her mum isn't crafty or anything and doesn't get the effort you put into things. Maybe she's jealous she can't do crafty stuffs too, who knows).

  9. What's on your hook?

    :

yes, ive been procrastinating finishing the jumper lol now ive decided i have to finish the jumper before i can move on to anything cos it will be so cute when its finished! yes my mum has a few things like that that ive undone/unraveled so i can have the fabric/yarn.
i lion brand yarn. they are fantastic tho i am still a bit of a pattern book whore and google free patterns all the time just out of interest.
how had i never come across ravelry before??
jewel she is just gorgeous!!! im sorry she wasnt appreciated, it stings a bit. FWIW cman totally doesnt appreciate the teddy a family friend knitted him. i love him, hes really cute but cman is more interested in his B1 banana and flat out bear

  10. What's on your hook?

    :

Leckert, that is an AWESOME idea for storing hooks!

I'm halfway through a baby blanket and have also finally matched my wool for my super big granny square afghan - everything's joined, I just need to edge it. Then I'll officially be projectless

I'm too scared to try clothes, although I'd like to start making baby stuff - booties, jackets. Maybe I'll start with that and see how I go...

  11. What's on your hook?

    :

Keike - I can't wait to see a picture of your afghan!

I've been thinking about making a cowl, and maybe some fingerless gloves ( just cause I can) as well as some other winter stuff lately. The hardest part is choosing what colour to make them in. LOL.

  12. What's on your hook?

    :

    recently finished-
cushy backrest cover for rocking chair.
    Yet another pram shade
    a baby sling

    in progress-
    yet another baby sling
    a winter top for myself
    a blanket for my niece

    next in the production line-
    a baby blanket or two

yes, I love to crochet. I only learned 8 months ago via a youtube tutorial. The idea dawned on me during one of those endless cuddle days when DS was very little and very much attached to me 24/7.

Excuse the pun, but I am hooked on crochet!

  13. What's on your hook?

    :

You've been busy, forshelby. I never thought about a crocheted sling. Wow. That's a bit cool. Have you got a picture or anything of it? Love to see it if you don't mind showing it.

I've started making a little Hello kitty toy. It should be cute when it's done. I usually finish one thing before starting the next but lately I've had a few going at once. I've got 3 projects all going at once.

  14. What's on your hook?

    :

forshelby, a sling and a pram cover! im intrigued! id also love to see pictures!
keike, oooh i love afghans, what wools have you used?
jewel, where do you live? i used to wear fingerless gloves 24/7 thru winter but it just doesnt get cold enough where i am now (mind you only moved to the other side of town!)
i may have gotten lost in spotlight yesterday, then the 2nd hand shop cos i was toddler free after my tafe orientation finished 2 hrs early. i bought soem wool to try making a soaker on sale for $2 per 50g merino wool *dance* i may or may not have also bought some quilting stuff too DH was a bit cross since tafe fees were due yesterday as well as car rego and we had to take $ out of savings to cover the costs til DH's pay day next week but there was a sale!!!!!!! and i also got a really cute old knitting book from the 2nd hand shop, it apparently wasnt worth ringing up so i just gave them a "donation" of the original price tag from 1988 still on the cover. i could have bought about 6! i may need to go back next week!

i always seem to spend to much on wool, where do you girls source it from? i seriously object paying $5+ per 50g just to get new wool. makes it into a very expensive project if you are making something like a blanket.

I wish I had spotlight here. I'd be in there every week. The specials and sales they have on their tv ads are great! I'm so so so jealoussssss.

I live on the far south coast of NSW. I dunno if I'd wear the gloves much. Depends how cold it gets in winter. Might wear them on those cold winter sat mornings, or all day, playing sport, or walking or something. Lol. Might even wear them to bed just to use them. hehe. I'm a little bit of a fool.

I was getting my wool from this craft place here but I've been getting some from bigw for $1 cheaper so that's what I'm using for the dolls, etc. I haven't really got many options here, country town and all.

  16. What's on your hook?

    :

ooh jewel where abouts? we had a mini honeymoon in eden in jan.
yes i got some knitting books from big w for half the price they had them in spotlight. spotlight you need to go during a sale otherwise they are on the higher of normal cost.
yes im in adelaide and if your on the plains (where i live) you have a much hotter climate (average 2-5 degrees hotter year round) than in the hills (where i used to live) so i tend not to need my beanie, gloves, scarfs as much.
Last edited by AngelPants; February 9th, 2012 at 09:59 PM. : skarves?? i think i need to go to bed!!

Beanies, beanies, some more beanies, and some embellished singlets! You see most of what I make

Right now, I'm working on a newborn sized lamb-eared beanie It is super adorable, soft fluffy white with floppy ears. It will also get a matching singlet and booties.
Also just need to put finishing touches on a ladybird beanie.
Need to make a rainbow beanie, a few more of the 'Bambi' styled ones, and other baby/child hat requests I have going.

    Cute mobile Jackrose

I am also intrigued about your baby sling Forshelby!

My hooks are in a little orange box. Nice and bright so it's easy to locate, about the length of a pen and maybe 2cm wide? Got it from MIL, it's real handy! I like the clear pencil case idea too.

ooh and I love your little doll too, Jewel!

Worked out the baby blanket I'm going to try for freckle - now just have to hunt down the yarn. It's called gentle waves baby afghan; sort of rainbow coloured with white bits.
