Home made PJs as a Christmas gift - stingy or not?

I've recently gotten into sewing and I thought I would like to sew some PJs for the little people (nieces, best friends kids) for Christmas (aged 5 and under).

I thought I would sew the PJ shorts, buy a T shirt from Target and applique a bit of fabric on it to match the shorts. The cost of the components of this gift would be less than I would normally spend and less than my friends would normally spend on my kids. But it would take me about 1 hr per pair to make (maybe more).

Would you be disappointed if your child received this for Christmas? Am I being stingy?

(Just to clarify, I know the friends and kids would be happy to receive PJs for Christmas, so I'm more asking about the cost difference and being hand made by me)

It's a lovely gift, I have had a friend who did this for my boys. It's especially nice if the pj fabric/design reflects the child's interests etc

    I don't think its stingy & I think it's a lovely idea.
The price difference wouldn't bother me, alot of time, effort & love goes into homemade gifts.

I love getting home made gifts as it shows the person has put thought and effort into the gift rather than just getting the first semi suitable thing they saw.

    I don't think it's stingy at all

    Love it!
Especially if you personalize it with a colour or something that you can say is just for that child
    Not stingy at all!

Depends how well you sew. If you you are competent it sounds like a sweet, unique gift.

I would love if my boys received something like that, I think it shows a lot of thought, especially if you pick appliqué that reflects the child as previously suggested.

Sounds lovely. Gift-giving was never meant to be a dollar-for-dollar exchange. You could make the appliqué bit the first letter of their name in fabric that reflects their interests.

Lol where do we put in our orders?

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I am a competent but not expert sewer - they won't fall apart but I wouldn't be able to sew a complicated dress or anything (I can't do buttons, zips or darts, so that really limits it!). I'll try and choose fabric that will suit each child and a coordinating tee, might have to practice my applique a bit before I can manage letters!

Ok, I have 9-12 pairs of PJs to make between now and Christmas!

    I think it sounds ace

The only times I find home made things don't get a good response is exactly as the same as bought stuff: if it's not good quality, if it's not something they'd want, etc. so knowing that pyjamas are desired, and you're a competent pyjama maker, I say go for it
