Starry: I was thinking of this thread yesterday as I was doing the school run (walking). I am too lazy to drive... meaning that if I drove I would never get around to finding time to exercise on top over everything else I do each day. I find exercise for it's own sake really boring.... so it's best I combine getting enough exercise with things that I have to do like the school run.... which is 2km return.... and I do it twice a day so that makes a daily total of 4km brisk walking pushing a pram... and it's hilly. Now that I have a heart rate monitor I have also seen that I only burn enough calories during the 4km brisk walking to "cover" my 2 coffees each day. That was quite surprising. I would have thought it would have been more. No wonder people who drive everywhere really struggle to lose weight!
