wth - you are absolutely right this distance thing sucks. There are only 2 labs in the world that are equiped to test for X Linked Hyrdocephalus one in France which we are using and the other one is just outside Washington DC. Royal Brisbane Hospital genetics department use the lab in France as they have found them to be quicker????? I would hate to imagine how long the one in the USA takes.

I'm a newbie, dipping my toe in this thread for the first time.

I had an appt with the FS yesterday, and was told that I would need IVF with PGD as I am a carrier of an inherited disease. Once I heard this, my mind starting racing at a million miles a minute, and I couldn't really concentrate on the rest of what was said. As you can imagine, I am very anxious and nervous and want to find out as much info as possible before my next appt.

Could somebody please tell me what the associated costs with this are. I would really like to know what the upfront cost of a full stimulated cycle is, and what the additional cost is of PGD.

Welcome to this thread.

The best place to ask about the costs is your clinic (I am with SIVF), they are different depending on where you go. For me I had to first get done a DNA Mark-up for myself and my partner (it took three months to do that), the costs where $1500 without any Medicare rebate, then there are extra costs for each cycle, I am not sure how much these are.

Manhattan - welcome, you will find an enormous amount of help and support here, the ladies are wonderful. The prices do vary from clinic to clinic so you are best to talk to them. What condition are you trying to avoid, if you don't mind me asking?

AFM, had FS appt this morning, BT, and first shot. Minor change in plan, I'm on 100IU of Puregon instead of Gonal-F this cycle, simply because the Puregon pen is easier to dial to 100. Just when you start thinking that this is all so complicated... Next appt is next Friday, and it looks like if everything runs smoothly my EPU is going to be on Wednesday 01Apr09, which is coincidentally my dad's birthday and the day my mum arrives for a four day visit. DH leaves tomorrow for his two month trip away, but we've had good news with his frozen samples. The fresh sample was 100 M/ml with 80% motility (up from 70 M/ml and 70% motility last cycle), we got eight vials/samples frozen out of the fresh sample, and the sample they froze and thawed maintained virtually all motility. FS still wants to do ICSI just to be on the safe side. I was trying to think this morning just how much more advanced IVF can get than the cycle we're doing without going to TESA or MESA; we're doing fully stimulated IVF, with frozen sperm, ICSI, and PGD (God willing). For goodness sake! Natural process my ass!

Kel81 - Sounds like you are all set with a good, well thought out plan. My FS is also now using ICSI to be on the safe side - I can't imagine what it would be like to be able to have a baby the normal way - or even what it's like to wake up one day and realize out of the blue that AF is a week late. Oh well, got to focus on the end result and not the means.
