Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception - August 2007 #2

Hi everyone, hope things are going well.
Rols- the trigger def sub cut, the needle isnt big enough for intra muscular anyhow. It hurts more than the other needles too, because the needle isnt as sharp- so it takes a little more oomph to get it through to the skin!! I had to give mine at work last night...disappeared for a bit and ouchies, ow ow!! Just stings when you push the fluid in. Have fun with it!!
Me- EPU tomorrow... Im so worried. I dont really know what to expect. I just hope something to t/f. And find out that FS is going to be away for 2 whole months from start of Sept, so after t/f im not going to see him again which is a little sad :(
Chez- moving to Perth. We had a big choice- DH in defence force, and man we are so tired of living in Sydney. We used to live on the water at Kirribilli but moved 11 months back as they sold apartment, now we are in the heart of north sydney, and well in a beaut new apart, but all we look out on now is a glimpse of the bridge and well, lots of concrete!! I miss looking out at the water, so hopefully we will be somewhere near the beach! Yayay!!

Rols – try not to be so nervous - I’m sure your guys are going to do a great job fertilising all of those eggs your DW has brewed up! Good luck with it all.

I'm sorry to read about those who were in the TWW thread only to receive a BFN. Seems like a very cruel ending to such a long and trying journey, but I do hope you all have strength again to give it another shot. My heart goes out to you guys.

Well I’m a little nervous about starting our first round of IUI - which we have an appointment at the clinic tomorrow to pick up the meds and learn how to do the injections.. (which I’m freaking out about). I can’t even handle a blood test without needing to lie down for half an hour afterwards because it turns my stomach!! But you gotta do what you gotta do right?? so fingers crossed it wont be as bad as it seems in my head.

My main concern is suddenly feeling like your not connecting with those who are around you, because your going through something so major - and no body seems to understand you…Or they just cant understand why you want this so much - oh my – if i’m feeling like this without any extra hormones imagine what I’ll be like once the injections start!! look out!

Anyway – thanks for letting me read all of your stories and share my one with you….:p

Best of luck with your cycle! I know what you mean about the needles...I reward myself with chocolate after each needle lol...so it's not 'really' the drugs that make me put on weight!!!
If you need to disconnect for a while then that's what you do...it's all about you...focus on what you need...everyone else will deal with it and there will be plenty of time to socialise when you're celebrating that BFP!!! Take care xxx

We've been away for a short break as DH and I were both getting rather stressed and feeling like we were running out of options. So we decided to do something crazy and take off at short notice. Went to QLD for a little sunshine and to regroup. Feeling much better and motivated to keep going no matter what.
One of my friends pointed me to Antonia Ruhl, a Brazilian herbalist. We'll be seeing her next week. We are quite excited as we've heard several good stories about her. Will keep you posted how we go.

Still catching up with all the posts. You guys have been busy.

Leeshie, my DW is (was) the same. Couldn't have a blood test or any other needle without having a mental meltdown. You should see the transformation now. She turns up to her blood tests with barely any obvious nerves, and takes the needles every night like it is as trivial as blowing your nose. I'm still quite amazed by this transformation. The point being, your mind goes to new stronger places when you are so focused on something. If she can do it, you can too.

And they (the needles) really aren't anywhere near as bad as you think. Honestly. Put a bit of ice on the area for a few minutes beforehand, and you'll be lucky to feel it.

Plus good tip about the ice prior to injection.. i'll definately use that.

hiya Leeshie - and welcome hun

you've come to the best place for support through this journey - we've all been at that starting point where everything is as scary as hell, and with the help of the lovely people in here, we've survived and even moved on to being the supporters rather than the supported! if you have any IUI related questions, ask away hun - by the sounds of it, you're going to be going through ovulation induction using injections, which is a very similar process to IVF, but those of us on IUI don't have to go to egg pick up after trigger shot... feel free to pm me any questions - i'm ust about to start the 5th cycle of IUI this year...

as for me - FS appointment today confirmed that the BFP last week was a chemical pregnancy and is all over now. we're going to give IUI another shot (after at least getting a BFP last week, we know that it's working) - which we'll start with next week (could have started today - but DH is going away for work again this weekend for another week - always seems to happen when we're about to start a cycle - talk about timing!) - the whole story is in my journal if you want to check it out - too much to type again here!

Leeshie, that was always DW's aim - not to pass out, and on several occasions prior to (and unrelated to) IVF she very nearly did. I made her faint once talking about a needle. Seriously, I can just about guarantee that after a few home needles and BTs you wont be very worried about it at all. I know the needles were one of our biggest concerns, but it's ended up being easy just about every time. In our case I do all the needles so it's one less thing for DW to have to worry about - ie. she just comes into the bedroom at 8.30 and I'm ready to go. If your bloke is OK with needles it may be something to think about.

DW is now daring me to stick myself with one of the spare empty Lucrin syringes (Lucrin finished as of now!) to see if I am up to it!

PMSL Rols, so did you do it? I dared my DH to have a sniff of my Synarel and he did... then whinged about it for ages LOL.

Hi girls, I accidently posted in the TWW thread yesterday but just wanted to introduce myself and hope you don't mind me joining you. We're 15 months down the TTC road and after last month's assessment cycle, a few challenges were found and we're starting IUI next cycle (end August/early Sept). I'm still hoping for a fluke of a BFP this cycle ! I'm a bit nervous about the whole process including needles - does anyone here get their DH to do the needles, I'm considering that because I just dont think I could bring myself to do it. Also, does it sound right that my clinic in their documentation on IUI wrote that their 2006 statistics for IUI success first cycle were 9% partner and 22% donor insemination ... what the?!? that seems awfully low. :( Has anyone else been told that by their FS, or heard of better statistics?? (Maybe I should change clinics !!! :angry: )
