Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception - August/September 09

Hey there ladies,

I haven't posted for a while but like Melttc I stick my head in every few days to see how things are and try to keep up! Mel thanks for your wishes - I am doing really well - I'll post more later in the AFM bit. Good luck with your cycle at least something is happengin now so you feel like you are in progress. Don't you just love synarel - ugghhhh! :spit: 100 does seem low on the gonal - but if it is the first IVF cycle then I get the feel they like to start cautiously.

Loops - sorry to hear about AF. Bugger I hope you enjoy your time away from the house and a change of scenery.

Lise - I found doing my injections in night better for me - I think I woudl be too rushed in the mornings. However if you have things on at night from time to time then mornings woudl be far better. I was lucky we did not have much on and it was only 1 night where we had to do it in the car (sounds good huh!!) My DP did my injections - I can't do them myself!! I doubt very much it makes any difference to any luck with your cycle - so just go with what you think will practically work best for you! Glad tohear you were able to get straight back into another cycle.

AFM - I am waiting for scan on Thursday to see how the lining is going and try figure out how far from Ov we are - think it will be a bit early days yet tho. I am actually enjoying not having to think about it all tho - I can now see why some say it is nice to have the break. When I do think about it I just get frustrated that it is all this waiting and why can't it just happen. But I've been in good spirits for the since I got over the BFN a week or so ago. I think as time gets closer I will just be nervous as anything about the thaw and worried that our 2 bubsicles are not going to make it & it will be a cycle once again. the only thing with that is that surely I could get back into a stim straight away as i've really had the month off effectively. Anyway - there I go thinking too much lets just get through this FET.

Have been lurking but haven't really had any news to post. Still waiting for AF so we can get going on our FET. As expected the stim cycle has delayed things and at this stage AF is 4 days late. This is one of those few times in life I actually want her to come and she won't..... keen to get going and sick of the waiting game! A lot has happened in here over the last week but I will attempt some personals.

Tantee - so glad to hear that your little embie thawed ok and ET went well. All the best for the remainder of your TWW :stickyvibesgirl::stickyvibesboy:. I hope you are managing to keep sane.

Lise - Great news that you can head into another stim cycle so quickly. I hope you have managed to keep your stress levels down and GL with the job hunt. (Also, I don't think you are crazy about wanting to go back to Canberra... I have family there and it's a lovely place to live and deserves more street cred than it gets!)

Mummawannabe - I am also about to embark on my first FET, although mine will be natural with only prog pessaries in the TWW. I am not 100% sure but I believe regardless of the drugs used you should still ovulate. Once this is confirmed via BT your embie will be put back at the appropriate number of days. If you are concerned with the possibility of a multiple pregnancy your clinic will simply request that you abstain from DTD at the appropriate times.

Airline, Melttc, Coral, MotherhoodHIC, EmeraldStar and SonjaLouise - wishing you all the best for your latest stim cycle. I hope that it is your time for some BFP action.

Nix - GL with your scan tomorrow.

Jilly - :welcome: from me also. Did they end up cancelling your cycle? If so I dare say they will put you on a much higher dose next time. FS usually tread carefully the first time to see how you react and avoid OHSS.

Loops - Got to love AF timing. I hope your cycles get's more regular again soon and I hope you have a fantastic break in Melbourne.

Emerald Star - I hope you're feeling a bit better about your ultrasound. How did the second one go? I know it's an awful feeling to go though a cancelled cycle (i've been there) so fingers crossed it all goes well for you. And if it makes you feel any better the other day I spent hours googling prams/strollers... :redface:

sonyalouise - how did your scan go? I started injections again yesterday also. Doing mornings this time as I have house guests all week and I think we'll be out a bit at night which would cause me much stress in thinking I need to be home by a certain time and then not enjoy my family while they're here!! Anyway, hope yours are going well :)

motherhood here i come - hope your anniversary went well :D Glad that you too can be crossing days off and getting closer to your dream.

airline - love your furbabies thread! I don't have any of my own (allergies :cry: ) but I do take great pleasure in my nephew furbabies, and have been reading with interest about everybody elses!!

mitf - hoping AF arrives soon! It's so frustrating waiting for her to come, and as you said, a totally unusual feeling as usually we're praying she stays away.

Coral - thanks for the advice. I spoke to my fabulous GP who gave me all week off, and when I go back to work next week i'm going to negotiate reduced hours. So i'm getting there. It certainly helps to vent on a thread like this and know that other people understand EXACTLY what you're going through without having to explain every little thing.

AFM - nothing new, just injecting and waiting till Monday for the 1st scan and BT. I haven't had any adverse reactions (touch wood) to the doubled dosage of Gonal-F, so hoping that continues. Though in a way i'd kinda like to feel sick or something so I can feel like something is happening. Never happy...!

Motherhood- Glad to hear you are positive and calm. I am also doing acupuncture, I love it. It is great to have a plan. Do you know what dose you will be on this time?

Airline-I have finally worked out what furbabies are, I have two. I will have to pop into your thread and have a read. Hope time flies for you.

Jilly- Welcome to the thread, I would say that the iui probably isn?t a preferred option to continue with because there is actually only a 15% chance of it working per cycle and my FS said you should expect to go through 6-12 months of them. I am sorry I can?t answer your question about FSH. Are you planning on an ivf cycle?

Nix76- Hope your scan went well today and that you got the information you wanted

Lise- Good to see you are not having many side effects, enjoy the next week with your family. I also have a scan Monday, so I may see you walking the halls of MIVF. What time are you having your scan?

AFM- Had the scan yesterday and all was well, started injections last night. Unfortunately I woke up with a headache, bloating and am still extremely tired aghhhh. It is only the first day. Off to acupuncture now so hopefully will be feeling better soon.

I hope it's ok to jump in like this, without knowing anyone. I am looking for a home and some friends who will understand the nature of this tough journey I am on. I am 41 and heading into my fifth fresh cycle. I am scared and lonely and I would so appreciate some buddies to go through this with me. I was on a forum in Canada but in Canada IVF is so expensive everyone stops after a couple of tries. They either get pg or stop, so I felt strange and freakish going for multiple attempts.

It will take me a little time to get up to speed with everyone, and hopefully that's ok. If you ladies think there is a thread where I would be better suited, please let me know. Like a 'multiple tries' thread. I am still getting used to how this board works!

Afternoon Girls,

Update time. Am still crossing off the calender days one by one. Wish they would go faster but then I stop myself and think that I dont want to be wishing my life away just yet.

Thanks for all the congratulations ladies. DH and I had a fantastic Wedding Anniversary! I was so spoilt. Our anniversary was Tuesday however on Mon night, he surprised me after I came back in from feeding our 3 furbabies with a massive big bunch of beautiful flowers, chocolates and not one but 2 gifts (Who knows where he had been hiding all this). I was totally totally surprised and not expecting anything because I thought we had agreed not to do anything. Its often hard to surprise me but this time, he definately got me good. Was not expecting that. Anyhoo I got a lovely matching Diamond and Emerald pendant and earring set, a new beautiful gold chain and a beautify crucifix with diamonds. See what I mean, definately spoilt thats for sure. I had the day off work on tues and we just spent the day together, doing "normal" things and forgetting all our worries. Was the best day ever.

So back on track. Had accupuncture yesterday and was able to let my guy know that we now have dates for IVF number 2 to commence. He was happy as we have a few weeks to prepare specifically for IVF. So yesterday, we targeted my kidneys to strengthen them, I was told they too are a part of conception, who knew. After that, we moved onto my other points to help me relax and keep/bring the blood pressure down etc, etc.

Sonyalouise - Unfortunately as yet, have no Idea on my dose rates. I know Ill be on 10units of Lucrin starting from the 08/10/09. I still have a small amount at home too from the first cycle lol. I suppose, following my BT on the 15/10/09, I'll then know what dose of Puregon Ill be on. As far as I know I'll be doing that again. I still also have some of that at home too oh and my trigger. See all set just really need to wait for time to fly by!!!!

Well best be off. For anyone thinking about doing accupumcture, I say do it. I have noticed that Im not as stressed and more go with the flow since starting and yesterday was only session number 3. I suppose, proof will be in the pudding when the US's start hey!!!!

Sometimes folk will redirect, but browse, see what you can associate with, what you might be able to help someone with, or just learn from others' experience. It's the most comprehensive site i've found. I'm sorry to hear you've had to go through so many cycles...I'm starting on my 3rd...so I empathise. Good luck and happy surfing :)

Edie - :welcome: it is great in here and if you are in any sort of IVF cycle then this is where you should be! There are lots of other forums that are filled with loads of good, helpful information too so have a hunt around. Glad you are able to keep trying cycle after cycle but of course I hope you don't have to for much longer.

Thank you to all of you for your thoughts today - just a scan - no biggie & not too exciting. As I thought its a bit early yet - but I'll be doing the pee tests from Saturday to try catch the surge and predict the ovulation to occur.

Lise - I can sooo relate to you googling for prams/strollers - the worst is when you find yourself buying unisex baby clothing at Target cos its 20% off *Doh* :rolleyes: I've really had to start giving myself a stern talking to so i stop this bad habit!! This cycle for me is a natural FET so no injections - once I ovulate we put a thawed emby back and then back into the 2ww - no drugs for me at all which is nice but I feel lke I would rather be doing anything that will help get a BFP

mitf - sounds like we are doing the same thing this cycle - except you have pessaries - I'm not having any apparently - I think they said that you only need them in a stim cycle cos your body is mucked around and doesn't produce what it needs when the emby is back.... I think that was it - it is all so confusing and I guess every FS is slightly different. How many frozen embys do you have - I am really nervous that they won't thaw OK as we only have 2. But I did find out today that it is a 70 - 80% chance that they will so that made me feel a little more positive about it.

Motherhood - your DH sounds wonderful - good for you and I am so happy you had a lovely day.

My DP & I have been doing normal things for the last week and it is SOOO nice - I guess being in between cycles we have not been thinking about all the TTC stuff and it has been soooo nice. I tell you tho, I think going thru all this IVF stuff has made us even closer or maybe it is just the ups and downs we ride in life anyhow but right now we feel so 'together and intune' and I feel so supported by him and lucky and *sigh* just inlove!

I hope all you girls have some wonderful men by your side thru all of this - and on the days when they are not so great - well I hope you have a furbaby somewhere near to help keep you sane!

Sonya - hope your headaches don't stick... sounds like you are stimming?

Jilly - :welcome: to you aswell. Sorry I can't answer any of your questions - I'm not quite up with what you are talking about other than to say the gonal amount sounds low but what would I know - I have only done 1 stim cycle with gonal and plus you are doing it with IUI which I don't know anything about. Hope things are going OK for you

airline - stay busy and try not to think about - Ok, Ok - who am I kidding! Just try stay sane!!!

Emerald - sorry to hear your were disappointed - that kind of sounds like my follies on my last cycle - I thought they were Ok sizes esp as you still had a few days to go. I hope things have been growing well and your EPU is still going ahead for tomorrow or Sat. It is true you will only need the ONE - however you do want to be able to collect as many as possible - we all know the reasons etc. I know what you mean reading BFP's and thinking - you lucky woman - you are through the BIG hurdle and over the mental turmoil - though only to be on the next chapter of mental turmoil I am sure! God how we all wish to be there. GL for tomorrow.

Nix, those unmedicated natural cycles are the best. I think you can trust your FS if you have been told you don't need the progesterone. That Crinone is horrible! Messy and makes you cry all the time.

WLB we can be 41 together. The 5-cycles girls. We oughta be proud. According to my clinic it's pretty normal to go for multiple cycles - I hope so! We had a pg on our third cycle which resulted in an m/c. It was fantastic to learn I could fall pg. Amazing. Worth any heartache. It's what gives me the strength to go on.

cycle #1 was a flop for me, so onto cycle#2 seeing FS on Wednesday and collecting next round of meds.
Not sure if he will start me day 21 of this cycle or if Ill have to wait til the next, either way Im ok with, I think. Its nice atm to just be me, instead of some hormone crazed TTC mad woman lol

Nix I so know what you mean about feeling picked on. Of course, we are not being picked on, but it soooo feels like it. And taunted. Persecuted! But last night I read a bit out to my Dh from a book called DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF and the book suggested seeing obstacles/problems as tests. I like thinking of ivf as a special challenge rather than meaningless torture for no good reason!!!! If we were being tested, what would you say is being tested? For me it is a test of faith and patience. What about you Nix? Hey, BTW I saw you were at MIVF. So am I. I am really happy there. I think I have chosen a good team.

And yes it's Friday. But how different is time when it comes to IVF life? You want it to pass all the time and then when it does you freak because you think "OMG it's Christmas and where is my baby?!"

One day we will have perspective about this and we will understand what was valuable about this HORRIBLE struggle, I am sure.

AFM- Acupuncture was heaven, I wish I could afford to go every day. My headache was gone for a while, but now it is back in force. Thank goodness I am on holidays I don?t how I would work in the state. I compliment all those ladies who have done so.

I am off to Apollo Bay for the weekend, hopefully it will distract me. My DH is just glad to get me off the computer for a couple of days. Will check in on Monday, hopefully with some good results from my scan.

Also I just had a mini heartattack as I got my bill from the fs. I can't believe they are charging me for an IUI cycle when they cancelled it after being on gonal f for only 1 week. All I had was 2 bt and one scan. Last month when they were tracking me I had loads more bt etc. and it only cost a couple of hundred. I rang them and they are looking into it. :wall: Is this normal for a canceled cycle??

Thanks for the well wishes. It's funny to think that your chances are just the same each cycle and just because it's your fifth doesn't mean your chances are less. After so many bruises it gets harder to feel positive, even though there is every reason to be!

Jilly - Welcome. Enjoy your time out with your GF's this weekend. It is nice to clear some headspace now and then for something other than TTC. I have been taking Blackmores Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Gold. I was originally taking it but changed to Elevit, mistakingly believing it to be better, but my FS advised that the Blackmores had iodine in it which has been found to improve brain development. I daresay that the other brands have now cottoned on to this as well.

Sonya Louise - Hope you are enjoying your weekend away in the sunshine. It is good for the soul.:D I am seriously considering accupuncture for my next round.

Edie - Welcome - I know what you mean re IVF time. I feeling that this whole year has been a write-off time-wise and that most of my enery has gone into this. I was considering having a few months off, but am in 2 minds, perhaps I should do another stim cycle this year and start the new year afresh?? hmmm decisions.

Nix - Good Luck with your OPK's and hoping that you can pinpoint your ovulation in preparation for your little embie/s. Are you transferring both?

To everyone - thank you so much for your support this month. It was a very nerve wracking time. My BT is on Mon but I caved in yesterday morning and did a HPT which was BFN, so I am pretty confident that the next plan of attack will be a fresh stim cyle (after having used all 6 of my frosties this cycle)

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy your weekend and get some time out to do something just for the fun of it. :grouphug:

Thanks ladies. I hadn't posted anything because we're currently going through "beta hell", as one of my friends put it. We've had low, slow-rising betas (51 @ 15dpo, 105 @ 19dpo, doubling time 92 hours) and we're due back for beta #3 on Tuesday.

But after 2.75 years of TTC and almost a year of IVF (we started Oct 08) this is our first ever bfp, so I'm counting it as a win no matter what the outcome!

jilly - Not sure if I had said welcome already so Welcome just in-case! I am only taking elevit although have gone all healthy this time round... no caffeine or alcohol, reduced refined sugars and eating a piece of fruit, nuts and honey every day and of course loads of water (hopefully all this hard work will do the trick!). I hope you have a great time with your GF's. Sorry I can't answer your question as I have been lucky and not had the experience of having to cancel a cycle....

Motherhood here I come - Happy Anniversary also! This year.. me and DH completely forgot ours due to being deeply emerged in IVF! We realised 3 days later - how terrible! Acupuncture is great isn't.... don't know what I would do without it!

lise - This thread is a life saver! That is great that you have some time off and are looking at working reduced hours... I reckon that it will make a huge difference :D. I wish I could do the same but no joy.... I am lucky though and work is pretty good to me.

Mitf - I hope AF has arrived so that you can get started on your FET cycle. Isn't that so typical.... when you want AF to show up she doesn't and when you don't she does! Arrgghhh!!!

AllyG and Onja - I hope things are going well with you both! Have you started/ where are up to on your cycles?

AFM - Well... FINALLY started the Lucrin yesterday and got a nice big headache as a result! All good though - just glad to be doing something :D. Feeling excited and a little apprehensive all at the same time! Scared to get too excited as I know we have a long way to go still... next step is to stop taking the pill on the Tues 29th. As they say take it one day at a time...

Hey Coral...is Lucrin a suppressant like synarol?? I started my syn. this morning (twice a day sniff), and I also stop pill on 29th! ...well last one on 29th. ooh cycle sister maybe!?:D

Hi Im new to the site but desperate to vent and get advice.
I have been ttc for 15mth and we found out that DH is infertile with poor morphology (congenital). I started my 1st IVF/ICSI cycle last month, and I over responded with 26 eggs collected, of which 10 fertilised (4x d2, 6x d5). I couldnt go through with a fresh transfer because I got mild-moderate OHSS, and was devastated with that news, but came to accept it because I couldnt have imagined feeling any worse. This cycle my doc decided I should do a natural FET. I ovulated a week late, but got to do an FET today with a blastocyst embryo. Im very excited, but what annoys me is the lack of information the clinic/docs give me as explanations to things....yesterday 2 of my good grade blastocysts thawed and died, and then a 3rd one which I was told was 100% doing well, didnt survive overnight.So they had to defrost a 4th one this morning which was transfered a few hours later I guess. When I asked, I was told it was very uncommon that 3 died, but that there was no explanation. And now Im worried they havnt told me what could happen with the one inside me..should it have defrosted for 24hrs??
Ive not been told what grade they are, or what freezing process they are using, I was just told when they were frozen that they were very good quality....so why are they not surviving? What worries me is that Im lucky to have that number of eggs frozen at the rate they are dying..but was hoping to get 2 babies from them...it doesnt sound normal.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?
Im trying not to focus on the negatives in my 2ww, so I think this should be my only vent :redface:

Tantee - hang in there....you may just have low hcg levels...you never know!! If its a negative outcome after BT, don't worry because your turn is coming up real soon...i just know it. Take care! :hug:

Coral73 - thanks!! I was feeling abit down and i just went and read through all the old posts and realised there were BFP in September! I thought well we all need cheering up and the odds are low but hey it will be one, 2 or 3 of us every month...thats good enough for me. I 'm glad it brought some perspective on things..because deep down we all want it to be us, and it will be, when the time is right. ;)

goodvibes - :welcome: sorry i cannot help you because i've never been lucky enough to get any to freeze...i am sure someone will have an answer for you. All i can say is things happen that are out of our control and we just have to accept them on face value. There could be a number of reasons this happenning, but if i were you i would be demanding answers from my FS. Goold luck with everything and your 2WW!!!

AFM - hanging for Monday...:pray: i get at lease ONE egg. I just keep dreaming that i'm gonna wake up after EPU and they tell me there were no eggs to collect.

I should be grateful that I have frozen eggs, as when I hear stories like yours, it puts everything into perspective. I hope you have some good luck soon
