Hey girls! Who managed to watch Maybe Baby last night? I didn't realise it was going to be all single women. Never the less, an interesting show. Heartbreaking at times, don't you think?
My greatest worry was the 42 year old woman who was told the clinic didn't see women her age falling pregnant. Everybody on here over 40 block your ears - I don't believe that for a second!
I certainly felt a tear when that woman gave birth surrounded by women - it was quite moving don't you think?
:-)
OP.
Posting because no one has in here for a while. I missed the Maybe Baby show unfortunately - sounds like it would have been interesting.
Hope everyone is well with things going to plan.
AFM - Hoping have conceived naturally with AF due in a few days but also have the Puregon and Pregnyl needles already to start next IUI. And we are trying to get two samples from DH this time because apparently that has worked for some couples.
:stickyvibesgirl: :stickyvibesboy: for everyone
xo
Hey Loops fingers crossed for a good result in the next few days...
I hope everyone is ok i havn't come in cos nothing is happening for me right now... Im recovering really well from op not sore anymore i am if i get a knock to my belly button by the kids at work (garanteed when i do a nappy i get a toe jabbed in it LOL) but otherwise fine... Go see Dr next week hoping to be put on provera so we can get cracking again hoping to be doing the IUI end of this month early next...
Thanks very much for your support Janeo
Glad you are on the mend and all the very best with the Dr next week and I hope you can start IUI again very soon. Thinking of you.
Here's an interesting story in the paper today:
Lifematters - LifeAndStyle - smh.com.au
I'm a bit disappointed. People are treating assisted conception as a game instead of a necessity for those that can't conceive on their own.
OP.
that's shocking!
The thing is, there is an assumption that IVF will produce a raft of embryos to choose from, which just isn't the case. Many people are lucky to have one or two viable embryos after producing 10, 16 or even 23 eggs. Can you imagine looking at the two and say "Well that one with the brown eyes can go in the bin - transfer the one with the blue eyes"? Hello? It's human life we're talking about here!
Anybody seen that film called Gattaca? It's precisely about this - how genetic screening becomes a method of persecution and exclusion. This cosmetic IVF is the first step towards that kind of society...
OP.
OP : Very interesting artical, I could not imagine this selection being used by LT TTC'ers..
It makes me wonder, why they can't come up with a solution as to why the embryo's dont stick, instead of the size of the embryo's nose..
Well, yeah WLAB - that's right? Why the hell are we wasting time on the stuff that doesn't matter when we still don't have solutions to the stuff that does?
My other beef is the lack of research, support, attention and solutions for male factor infertility. Surely we can fix those problems (other than with ICSI, which again, has next to no impact on the male and 100% impact on the female).
OP.
Hey guys,
I'm wondering when to start IUI #2. It didn't work first time and I am at the end of my AF. I'm wondering whether to try again when next AF comes or leave it a month.
Here is my reasoning for leaving it a month - and tell me if you think this is really daft.
I have one very slightly dodgy fallopian tube. As far as I'm aware, my ovaries alternate each month (that's correct right) in releasing an egg. I think that if I do the IUI in my next cycle then it is going to be the same ovary releasing the egg as the last IUI - which then might not work again.
Or I could wait another month and that would be the other ovary working.
How STUPID do I sound? It's not even clear that my ovaries alternate exactly.
What is everyone's thoughts on this? Providing you get what I'm saying LOL
Sorry for the long winded post.
Hugs :D

Hi Sue,
Your ovaries don't strictly alternate between one and the other each month. Especially not if you're using follicle stimulating hormones to support your IUI. FSH (eg Puregon) can actually produce mature follicles on both sides at the same time.
The only way to know which ovary is going to produce the lead follicle in any given month is to undergo monitoring via internal ultrasound. If you're using Puregon with your treatment, then this is meant to be started on day 4 of your cycle. If you've missed that, have a word to your FS about how to proceed.
And as an aside: have you had a laparoscopy to determine the state of your tubes? Sometimes an FS will recommend you go straight to IVF if the health of your tubes is in doubt. I think this is good advice - nobody wants to go through an ectopic.
That being said, I have a friend who fell pregnant naturally on one tube. So did Nicole Kidman! Nature can be very mysterious.
:-) OP.
Hey OP,
I've had lots of surgery and an HSG to clear my tubes. During my first IUI I had an ultrasound which showed my tubes were fine but one was a bit scarred. My FS wasn't concerned.
It's interesting to know that Puregon produces follicles both sides.
My last IUI cycle I had 50iu puregon and produced one huge follicle.
Hmmm..... something to think about.
Thanks for your advice.

Sue I'd just go for it!!!!! Not much advice but why try and control it anymore than it's already is!!! if you know what i mean
