LTTTC Two Week Wait 2010 #2

Hi Angela,

I don't have private insurance either. My IVF cost around $8000 (through Ballarat IVF) but I have been told I will get around $5000 back on medicare (haven't been able to claim it back yet so don't know for sure). If this is right it means it will only cost $3000 and I've been told it will be only around $2,500 if I go again as I will be over the medicare safety net then. I was able to get a personal loan to pay for IVF and will put everything I get back from medicare back off the loan straight away and then pay the rest off over time.

Do you get anything back from medicare for IUI? I know when my ex girlfriend did it in 2007 it cost her $1,500 (from Albury IVF) and she wasn't able to get anything back. She was told the success rate was around 20% (whereas the success rate with IVF was 35% - so it seems better value for the cost compared to chance of success).

However I also know 2 women who have got pregnant with IUI (one even got pregnant on first attempt, the other was her 4th attempt).

Welcome back Murraycod and like Maggie I hope this is the last time we meet in this thread. So happy that everything has gone well for you and it sounds like you have a lovely embie on board. I cant beleive the amount of drugs you have to take this cycle I know its a pain but if it gives you a BFP then I'm sure you wont be complaining.

Angela prior to IVF I did 2 cycles of IUI and got money back from medicare you might want to check with them though cuase that was last year before MR Kevin Rudd changed the way IVF is rebated. I think each procedure cost about $1500 and I got back about $900. I'm with MIVF

Dreamrise hope your feeling a bit better about all the other things going on with work. Just remember we can only control what we can control so try not to stress and whatever will be will be. Your a strong woman I know this cause if you weren't you wouldn't be going through this IVF rollercoaster so I'm sure you can deal with anything

Nstap hope your feeling better and back to being positive. It amazing that we go through so many emotions through this 2 week period.

AFM well I've been extremely busy at work this week so during the day I don't really get time to think about what's happening to my little embie. Yesterday I left work exhausted and look terrible by the time I got home was really drawn out and last night I had some pains like AF was on the way so started to freak out a bit (prayed like crazy) but today is a new day and everything seems good again

Angela, I'm with QFG and an IVF cycle is $6700 upfront for the basic cycle. I don't know what the out of pocket is yet after the safety net changes as this is my first cycle this year. I do have insurance so I don't know how much extra the hospital costs would be. If you go to the QFG reception they can give you a cost estimate. Depending on how long you're willing to wait, it might work out cheaper to sign up for a basic hospital health insurance policy and wait out the waiting period?

Well I caved and POAS today which is 7DP6DT and 13DPO FET. It was a BFN which I was pretty convinced about as I have no sore boobs which I had last time and got a positive on a HPT at 5DP5DT even though it ended a couple days later, with a HCG of 45.

My BT is Friday but I will go tomorrow so I can talk to FS about whether I can do a back to back for our next FET. That one will be transfer number 10 for us and probably the last.

Terry - you're good, i'm the same, once i'm totally into work it all disappears from my mind, but then i realise i haven't eaten anything for a while so then freak that i'm not nurishing my embie!!! So, am then flooded with guilt. My sufferage though is a HPT each morning. I know, stupid but without anything else, it means i'm doing something. And so far, all the BFN's aren't disappointing cause i know that's what it's meant to read cause it's too soon...though if it continues through to the weekend, then i'll start getting nervous. When are you gonig for your BT??

Angela - Can't help you with costs, i'm in Syd and use a not-for profit clinic at Westmead Hospital so, literally not paying anything near what all the other states seem to charge. I don't think if we lived anywhere else we'd have had the opportunity to even try IVF let alone a FET cycle too.

NStap - how are you managing?? Hopefully you are finding some distractions to get you through this...

To all the other's i've missed - sorry! Hope the TWW is going fast for you and that your bodies and embies and meds and everything else is doing everything necessary to help the emby/ies stick and turn into lil fetus's!

Trea, honey, I'm so sorry. Those darn sticks should be banned from the shelves, they make us all feel like crud.

Can I ask a question?? How do you do it?? How have you been so strong through all of these transfers?? You totally inspire me to be stronger, I just can't imagine going through what you have. Honey you deserve so much, more than anything to be a mum. My prayers are with you sweetheart X

I can only laugh though, at myself, I think I took full honours at POASing last ET I had, and i didn't do it with much grace either!:doh:

Hi everyone,
I rang the clinic today to find out if my other 2 embryos had ended up developing enough to be able to freeze. i was told that they let them grow to 6 days but they still didn't get to a decent sizze so they weren't suitable for freezing. I really have to hope this little embie sticks because I don't want to start from scratch again. If I'm not pregnant I don't know what I'll do.

Hope everyone else is doing okay... my blood test is 1 week away now... so I'm half way through my 2 ww.

Murraycod - thank you for your kind words. I wish I had some wise words of wisdom (even if I did here's to you not actually needing them!!) but I don't. So in answer to your question I don't actually know. I guess the years just roll by and every now and then you get some renewed hope and plunge back into the IVF thing. We have had a couple of extended breaks when needed and we have certainly had many people say they can 'fix' us and the current being Dr S with our NK Cells. He did say it may take up to three cycles so you never know the the next one may be lucky number 10. The main things that have helped me over the years have been - wine, Sarah Lee Ultra Choc Ice Cream (an empty one sitting next to me right now), screaming when I need to, crying when I need to, taking it out on my DH when I need to, wine, the wonderful offer of gestational surrogacy by our best friends which we will look at after number 10, wine, did I mention wine and at times medication.......oh and my beautiful DH bought me a gorgeous boxer pup as a surprise on the day of my Feb transfer and I have fallen in love.

Hang in there and I've got everything crossed for you and all the other gals this time around.

Hey there Dreamrise, if you had a 2-day transfer on Wednesday, then the earliest that your embie could possibly implant would be tomorrow, and maybe not till Monday or Tuesday (or even later if it's a late implantation), and then it would take several more days before there was enough HCG being produced for you to have symptoms. And if it didn't implant, only THEN would it disintegrate and flush away. Again, the earliest that would happen would be Tuesday or so. So your lack of symptoms is pretty meaningless, it seems, esp. since you are not SUPPOSED to feel any symptoms until several days after implantation. Any symptoms that you did feel at this point would likely only be the Crinone, anyway, since that is the only chemical that could be producing symptoms at this point.

Just to give you and NStap and the rest of you who are feeling down some hope (damn Crinone!), I wanted to point out that last week, I, too, had a point in time when I was feeling no symptoms, and I turned out to have my BFP. Everything I read said that one of my first symptoms would be sore boobs, but my boobs felt absolutely normal. Zero, zip, nada different. Guess what? All of the sudden this morning -- 18 whole days past my egg pickup and 2 days after my positive BT, I guess I finally have enough HCG in my system because I finally started feeling some twinges in my boobs right when I woke up (and now they (th twinges, not my boobs) are gone). And it's only the past 2 or 3 days that I seem to be peeing more. Not much else in the way of symptoms, either, so, again, remember that it ain't over till it's over and your lack of feeling anything doesn't necessarily mean anything at all! FX for you that this is your month! :hug::hug::hug:

Kitkat - thank you so much for this post. I've been searching the net for symtoms and what to expect during the 2WW and have been getting worried as I've not felt anything yet. I still have 7 days to go so your comments have reassured me a little and given me hope.

This is my first ivf cycle and am on the progesterone pessaries, not crinone so really haven't known what to expect. This site is definitely helping me - good luck to all of you.

Trea - sorry the POAS gave the BFN ...dare i ask, did you still get to the BT or did AF arrive and you jus pulled out. If it remains BFN, did the FS say yes re: B2B for you?? #10 is jus massive, you must be such a strong and resilient person. Wishing you all the possibilities for #10 if that's what's next for you :)

Nay29 FX for you, 1st cycle is always so so hard - i felt like i was treated as though i had done it so many times before and that i knew everythign they were talking about, no to mention the q's on what to expect. Try seeing the TWW as down time from injections and nasal sprays and focusing on the self care and positive thinking rather than counting - easier said than done, but i think it's definately the time to be selfish and look after you! GL.

Dreamrise & MurrayCod - both of you stay strong, there's not much longer till you'll have the answers you need. I hope they are the ones you are desperately wanting because you are both so so so deserving! Stay positive...a mantra for the TWW my SIL and I have got going is - (breathing in...)'implant implant implant ummmmm (and breath out...)stick stick stick ummmmmm' (x repeat!). Each email we've written to each other this 2WW begins and ends with the mantra and it makes me smile at least daily. And so now, i will think it not only for my own lil emby, but you lil ones too...

Got my Blastie results in the mail today, out of the 18 we had still growing, 12 were frozen at Blasty, so I am totally thrilled!! So now we have 13 snow babies!

I've got 5 more sleeps until my blood test and am so tempted to POAS. I've been worried these least couple of days because after some earlier cramping, I don't seem to have any symptoms now. I keep reading over KitKat72's post though to feel better as she said she didn't have any either. It's just that I've only ever had one stim cycle before and the crinone then gave me all sorts of symptoms so it feels unusual now to have nothing (oh- except the headaches but I hardly think they're a sign of pregnancy) Still- I'm going to try to resist after last time where the home test gave me a BFP which turned out to be chemical pregnancy. I do not want that again!
It's in the bathroom drawer, maybe I should throw it away.

Hi ladies,

I hope you don't mind if I jump in here (I told you I'd be lurking!), but Murrarycod, I just wanted to congratulate you on your fantastic result with the frozen embies. That is great news!

Also, Maggie, just wanted to confirm that I originally had symptoms just like yours (cramping and, yes, headaches), then they went away at some point a few days before my BT, which got me really worried and down, so I can totally empathize with you. There is nothing worse than this period in the TWW when you still have a good number of days to go, it's too early to POAS reliably even if you wanted to (and I can understand why you don't want to), and the signs and symptoms that were sustaining you seem to have gone away. In my case, like you, I had the period of no symptoms at a similar point in my TWW. What you should look for, however, if your body is like mine (keeping in mind that we're all different so it might be that you could have your BFP without having any symptoms at all), is a return of symptoms right before your BT. For example, for me, after having a few days of nothing, the day before my BT, after I had succumbed and peed on a stick because I was so convinced I was not pregnant and just wanted the proof so I could have a glass of wine, I had some mild cramping, headaches and very very mild queasiness (so mild that I wasn't sure if it was all in my head) returned. So yes, the headaches could possibly be a PG symptom. For me, I have to say that I found the cramping probably to be my most significant symptom, because once it came back, it stayed in varying degrees: some days stronger with throbbing pain alternating with a stabbing feeling on the sides, and sometimes just a mild "buzz" down in the uterine area similar to what I felt when I was taking my stim drugs (did any of you have that, where you could feel something "happening" down there while you were stimming?). The "something's happening down there" feeling, once it started, stayed for about 2 weeks but now seems to have gone again. However my last BT 2 days ago was good so I'm assuming that there's nothing wrong with the fact that I don't feel anything any more. Again, perhaps that's just additional proof that the presence or absence of symptoms at any particular time is not all that meaningful. So I really hope you don't get too down. (((Hugs)))

Hey ladies, just wanted to back up KitKat on this one - EVERY body is different, so regardless of the books telling you that you should have this symptom or that symptom, just ride it out as you never know. I had zero symptoms and got a BFP. I'm 10.5weeks (yes, the 0.5 really does count!) and if the FS hadn't given me my results and if I hadn't gone in for a couple of internal scans I still wouldn't know that I was pregnant. I don't have sore boobs, they are certainly not any bigger (damn!) and I don't have morning sickness.

Just cross your fingers and stay positive, we want to see you all over in the 'Pregnancy after LTTTC' thread.

Oh and Murraycod - Nice cultivating mate!! 13!!!!

ps. Trea, my boxer girl Ali (yes, how original to name a boxer after Muhammed Ali) is 12mths old in about a fortnight. Make sure you get lots of sleep whenever you can as that puppy is going to run you raggard but when they look at you with that sad droopy face it makes it all worth it.

Just wanted to come in quickly and let you know where I'm at I spotted yesterday and have AF today. Spoke to my clinic and the earliest I can test is Tuesday cause I could be one of those women that gets AF but still gets a BFP and I still haven't passed the safe number of todays for implantation I don't hold out much hope but I so hope that the rest of you travel well this month. I will keep you all in my prayers

Trea could you please help me with '7DP6DT and 13DPO FET'? does that mean 7 days post pick up and 6 days post transfer = 13 days, I'm not sure, could blastocytes grow out of the uterus up to 7 days? And Trea, I hope your BT gave you want you wanted.

From what I have read the embryo at 2 weeks is actually visible and looks as big as the dot on an 'i'.

Dreamrise - some extra sticky vibes for you

One thing I wish I had done when I was pregnant in December was to note when the sore boobs came along in the early stages.I'm trying to remember when I felt the change with my breasts back then. It may have been after the 2WW.??? I so can't remember.

I've had the liberty of having this week off, and have been able to sleep in nicely. I have noticed some pretty vivid dreaming, and I'm sure that's from the progesterone. One morning was dreams about homicide, and I remember that as a side effect when I came off Progesterone one time after a doctor put me on it for another reason a few years ago. Not nice, just so good to wake up.

Nstap - when's your BT?

AFM - Implantation may have happened on wednesday night, as I felt some heavy cramping, after BD, so that would be 5 days after transfer and 7 days after pick up, then I was fine in the morning. bla bla la de da, oh just looking for all the right symptoms. or maybe it was just from BD

Back in December after Progesterone came out in little clumps for about 3-4 weeks after I started it . Gross. Some of it was dark blood stained. So, now I understand that would have been from plantation.

Hey, I wasn't able to do the vote on tickers and signatures. How long do you have to be a LTTCver before they let you vote. Maybe because I haven't had many posts.

As for the phone call after the BT, I don't want to take it alone, so last time I got them to ring my partner, and he told me when I got home from work. Probably want to do the same thing this time.

I'm day 7 after transfer of a 2 day old, 4 cell embryo. My blood test is on Friday 28th.
I'm just wondering why MIVF has transferred on day 2 for me and not waited for blastocyte day 3, 4 or 5. I don't know much about all that.
