I had HG with #2 (a girl) and #3 (a boy). It was much worse the second time around - the first time I managed to avoid hospital (just), but the second time, I couldn't even sip on water without throwing up straight away! My worst stint in hospital was for a week, constantly on a drip - they had to keep relocating the canula, cause I was that dehydrated that my veins were really bad too. They wouldn't let me go home until I had gone a full day of eating meals. I missed my other two kids so much, and DP had taken so much time off work to be home to look after them and bring them to the hospital every day to visit me. I ended up feeding them my dinner on the last night just so that I could go home!
This time around, I had nausea, and lost alot of weight in the first trimester (basically lived on icy poles cause I still couldn't physically drink water!) but managed to only throw up twice! I didn't even have my pregnancy confirmed by a doctor until about 16 weeks, just in case making it more real would bring on the HG!
It was so hard for me cause I had such a breezy first pregnancy (a boy) - healthy appetite, kept working until 6months (when I just literally got too big!!) - no sickness whatsoever! So for me, the sex of the baby makes no difference at all to how sick I do or don't get ... as all four pregnancies have been very different!
I felt the same way about not wanting to know I was pg, hoping to avoid hg. But I had a feeling I was before AF was even due this time around. I was too excited & did the test at 3 weeks. It was +ve, but like I said having a boy for me made all the difference. I still threw at least twice a day, but only up to 7 times, not 14 or 15. I could still live.
