Support Thread for Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) Sufferers

Sorry guys, I accidently lost some of my inital post that I wrote this afternoon, so here is the rest:

Brogey Bear - I am glad you are improving. I hope it well and truly disappears ASAP!!!

Melania - Im sorry to hear of your HG with your daughter. How awful that it lasted the entire 9 months. All I can say is that unfortunately if you have HG once, it is likely to recur in subsequent pgs, but it may vary in severity. My HG was much less severe with my first pg than it was with my second. As for advice, make sure you get medicated as early as possible with your next pg. Dont take no for an answer, because it is very dangerous to you both physically and emotionally if you are not, especially as you will have your DD to care for. Many Drs do not understand HG because it is not all that common so you may need to Dr 'shop' until you find one who is sympathetic to your condition. I hope you will get a reprieve from the HG in your next pg.

From Scratch - We are TTC our third baby as well, and I am very afraid of getting HG again as well. It is unfortunate that we all cant just enjoy our pgs like everyone else. I hope it will be third time lucky for us both.

Melania, I am so sorry I totally missed your post!!! Computer nightmares here! Your 1st pregnancy sounds just like mine was with DD. I dont have any advice as DD was my first child and no doubt, my only :( but I am sure that some of the girls on here who have been through this with a child will be able to help you out. Sending you a huge :hug: though. I hope this time around you get a beuatiful pregnancy.

DG thanks I feel better finally. It took 3 days in hospital and another 3 at home to feel kinda normal.

Lilydust I should probable look into a Doula, I havent even really thought about it. To be honest I dont think much at all lately except hoping I dont spew.

Melania I was really sick and probable had HG first time round too, but this time is/was worse. If you have family support use it as much as possible. I also put my daughter in creche a few days when as I just couldnt move from the bed or bathroom. I agree make sure you are medicated early on. I did make sure of this, this time. But I had to play around with the dose of my meds a bit. My other bit of advice is dont play the hero like I do sometimes. If you arent holding water down, make sure you get hydrated. The couple of times I got really bad was when I tried to solider on.

Melania, I have to agree with Diamond girl. Dr shopping is the only way to work through this. You really need to find the right Dr who knows what HG is how terrible it is and that can offer the right support. It's sad in this modern age how many Dr's simply don't know what HG is and that it is a true medical condition. During my first pregnancy I had a Dr tell me HG was a state of mind. "What the?" Yep, I soooo love vomiting a trillion times a day, and the subsequent 30kg weight loss when you can not afford to lose any was wonderful, NOT!
Now though I have plenty of weight to loose;) In fact I have been deliberatly putting on weight now so I can afford to lose some. I hope that makes sence. It's just that I have lost 30kg plus each pregnancy that this time I put weight on so at the end of it at least my friends and neighbours will recognise me. They didn't last time.

My dh's best friends sister is due in 4 weeks and we visited them yesterday. SHe looks so healthy, she really was glowing and full of energy. I am now suffering a good case of the green eyed monster. I'm simply so Jelious of her good pg health and energy.

Ok so Im pg and the dreaded m/s is back. Not HG yet, but I started feeling queasy two days ago. Its now the third day and I vomited twice before 9am. I was fortunate to get a maxalon prescription from my Dr when my pg was confirmed so Ive been taking it today along with some vitamin B6. Ive also been sipping ice chips every twenty minutes and I havent vomited again since, though I still do feel very sick. I hope this early intervention works! I'll keep you updated!

DG I'm so pleased about your pregnancy. Congrats. I hope the early intervention works and the HG stays away. Here hoping you have a smooth illness free pregnancy. You deserve it.

Firstly congratulations on being pregnant!!! I hope it is less stressful now that some symptoms have shown up.
I think my early intervention helped. I did the same and got maxalon when I went in to confirm the pregnancy. Not to say that I didn't have some pretty bad days but I think overall it has improved the experience. Good luck!

Thanks. Im still taking my maxalon 3 times a day and doing my best to stay hydrated. Gee I hate the first trimester, but I am glad to be pg.

Hi, I didn't even realise there was a thread for this and I'm now 29w5d with number 2.
With DS, I had little more than just nausea. This time, from about 6weeks, I have had horrible m/s. It died down to throwing up only a few times a day for a few weeks around the middle but then got worse again to the point of hospitalisation because my body had begun to shut down. They hooked me up to a drip for 4 days and gave me water and ice constantly, although I couldn't keep it down even with maxalon and they kept getting annoyed with me every time I filled another bag. Eventually they gave me ondansetron (wafers) and I could start eating lil bits at a time.
Sometimes I am lucky and can eat and be ok, other times, even the wafers can't help me.
Until this pregnancy, I was able to count the amount of times I've thrown up over my life on my fingers so this is a massive change for me.
Sorry to see there are so many sufferers.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Im very glad that you found our little suffering or suffered family here :). Although I am sorry to hear that you are one of the very unlucky ones though :hug: Its really not a nice thing to have to experience anytime especially not when you are trying to grow a precious baby in there! I cant offer much advice cause it looks like you are getting well looked after and on the meds that are helping. All I can say is hang in there, you are on the downhill run and soon you will have your babe :hug:

Sorry to hear you have hg.
Not long to go though. How exciting for you.

I suffered through 37+5 and 43+5 weeks of HG with my two. To make matters worse I had a blood pressure of about 70/40 and so for most of the day I was either passing out or vomiting or passing out and vomiting. I was prescribed maxolon for a short time, it didn't help one iota and moreover, we discovered that I was severely allergic to it. During my first pregnancy I had gallstones and had to have an open operation to remove my gall bladder at about 23 weeks pregnant. When I got pregnant with number 2, I really hoped that the vomiting had been caused by the gallbladder issues and hence wouldn't reoccur but I wasn't that lucky. Like other people, I have come to realise that as terrible as it is, I would rather be extremely ill and get to keep my babe. I have had 5 pregnancies and have only 2 little ones :( the three that are no longer with me did not make me sick at all.

Welcome to the thread, although Im sorry that you had to endure such an awful time of pregnancy. I hope that you are finding ways to heal from the trauma of such a hard time :hug:

All of a sudden with this month's TTC I have reached a state of total fear.
This month I actully in with a chance of Conceving and now I'm in total panic mode.
What if I get it again. :(
I mean I've already had it twice, and I know I have a massive chance of getting it again:(
But I want the baby not the hg :(
Panic panic panic worry worry worry this can't be helping at all but still.

:comfort: fromscratch, I dont even know what to say except I know your absolute terror. Im the only girl who hasnt had another bub in our group and think I would love one but 'cant' (actually may not actually be possible either lol). I am so sorry that you have been dealth that hand and I do have everything crossed for you to have a HG FREE pregnancy :hug:
