    Abnormal papsmear

I know this person - who is not known for her ability to tell the truth. She was telling me last week that she's waiting on her papsmear results. Apparently this is her 3rd smear, as the first 2 came back abnormal, but she bleeding both times. When she stopped bleeding (PCOS), she rushed back and got another one done.

The thing that doesn't make sense to me is, she reckons she's gotta wait 6 weeks for the result.

I don't know if I'm being cynical, but I would've thought that a papsmear after 2 abnormals in 6 months would be rushed through?

It would depend on what abnormal is and how severe the abnormalities are. I've had abnormal in the past and have still been told 6 weeks wait, I think it only took 3 weeks in the end though. So she could be telling the truth, hard to know without knowing the actual result of the smere.

Abnormal results are quite common, as is the wait time on results. And no, they don't necessarily 'rush' results either. It is odd that the doctor would have given her the smear whilst she was bleeding..twice.. lol But other than that, the situation she describes is not out of the ordinary.
Hope her results come back clear x

i don't think the delay is all that unusual - i'd think they are covering bases given there were signs of bleeding each time, which can skew results (my last pap i'd finished spotting couple of days earlier - pap was unplanned! - GP doing the pap said it was possible the small amount of blood at my cervix could impact results and it may need repeating. it's possible that there has been no rush put on it given the bleeding.

i had pre-cancerous cells discovered in an edometrial biopsy and required D&C - there was no rush put on the surgery - it was just put in as normal elective surgery! it was only rushed because of the severe bleeding that put me in hospital and wasn't stopping on it's own...

i don't think "potentially" problematic is given any more priority. it's only once it's confirmed as a problem that things MIGHT get rushed, if possible - depending on the seriousness of the problem kwim?

I had several abnormal results when I was younger. I never waited more than 2 weeks for a result and it was done at my local GP. When I entered stage 3 of abnormal results I had to go to hospital and have a biopsy done. None of it was rushed though

I have only ever waited 4-5 days for my results from pap smears, but obviously its different labs so the delay could be longer
