Hi,
Over the last 2 weeks both DS2 and I have started to have our fingernails lift up - starting from the cuticle end, and I have noticed today that DS1 has also got some slight lift - though not as bad as DS2 or I (mine is only on 3 fingers - my left pointer finger is the worst - its grown out to half way up my nail - so has gotten caught and 'frayed' a little, my thumb has a small white patch and my right pointer finger had a little 'bubble' in the corner). DS2 has the worst lift though - its actually on every fingernail - they are probably 1/3 to 1/2 now grown out - so the fingernail is kinda just hanging on to that connection left.
We all had Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease about 4-6weeks ago - with DS2 getting it first and having the worst case - it was everywhere on him. I got it last and had it mildly - with funnily enough particularly on those 3 fingers (but had it everywhere - probably 20-25 spots around, but milder then DS2 who had too many to count), and DS1 had it really mild - maybe 6 or 7 spots altogether.
So I was wondering if this was HFMD related? DS1 had HFMD once before - mildly - but did not have that 'side effect' last time - and I had never heard of anyone having this issue (my friends son - who started this whole thing had it the worst - he had it severly - but as far as I know didn't get that problem). Has anyone else had this side effect? Did the finger nail grow back ok after? I've noticed under my main finger that the nail underneath is growing, but it does seem a little 'softer' looking and seems to not be as flat -a little ripply looking (ITMS )- but I would hope that as the nail grows all the way up it will strengthen back to normal again...won't it ???
Or is it something else causing it?
My DH hasn't had it (and he has shocking nails to begin with anyway - so if it was environmental I would have thought he would have it too) and my mum who looks after my boys one day a week while I work and actually looked after DS2 for the day before we all got it. She has had her big toenail lift up over the last month - but she had already had her other big toenail lift up earlier this year because of bruising from wearing closed in shoes ALL day (something she never does) - she did get sick the same time we did, but as she didn't get spots and she had other symptoms - her doctor diagnosed her with some other virus (but I still wonder if it was a mild case to begin with that allowed the way for the other virus to attack).
Thanks in advance,
