Thread: Questions about Clomid ... Part 2

Default Questions about Clomid ... Part 2

    First thread is

Clomid is a brand name for Clomiphene Citrate, an ovulation inducing fertility drug. In Australia another brand, Serophene, is often prescribed. This is the same thing as Clomid. Clomid is often prescribed for women who do not ovulate or who ovulate irregularly. It can also be used to correct a Luteal Phase Defect.

Clomid works by increasing the production of FSH (the hormone which causes the ovaries to produce follicles). It is taken for 5 consecutive days early in your cycle and you must be sure that you are not pregnant before taking it. Your doctor will tell you which days and what dosage to take. After taking Clomid you should have follow-up consultations with your doctor throughout your cycle to check on your progress by using ultrasound and/or blood tests. From these your doctor will be able to tell you when you will ovulate. If the Clomid is going to work, most women will get pregnant within 6 cycles.

A variety of side effects can be experience whilst taking Clomid but some women do not experience any. Some of these side effects may include nausea, tiredness, headaches, moodiness, decrease in cervical mucous, a thinner uterine lining, hot flushes, ovarian hyperstimulation, and bloating. You should always speak to your doctor if you are concerned about the side effects that you may be experiencing.

There is also a small chance of becoming pregnant with multiples when taking Clomid - approximately a 5% chance of twins. Higher order multiples are much rarer.

We hope this has answered some of your questions about what Clomid is and why it is used. If you are taking Clomid, please feel free to join in the Trying to Conceive & Taking Clomid and/or Metformin thread which is found in the Conception - TTC Buddies Forum.

    Hi ladies,

I took my clomid earlier this month. I don't have scans. But I need to get blood tests on day 21, day 25 and day 29. Apparently they can tell if I have ovulated through those tests.

Bec- congrats on the folly. Well done!! Finally your body has taken the hint lol

As for me: i took the provera then the clomid and turned into an absolute sook!! It will be worth it in the end though. Although hubby may not agree lol... I have had my first blood test and am having one again tomorrow. I am only on 50mg so am not expecting any huge results. But my doc wouldn't put me on anything higher. Next month I move up to 100mg. that is of course if nothing happened this month... I think it is just a ploy so that I have to go back and see him hence more $$$ for him.. My doc is an IVF Specialist with IVF Australia. so he is a little bit pricey but so worth it if he can get this happening.

My 5 year old asked me if we were gonna have a baby and I gave her my usual response of "One day" and she told me that I "should just make one out of playdough and maybe the fairies will make it real... " If only it were that easy!!

Anyway good luck to you all. I will let you know how I went after my testing is complete.

    Hi Matthew's Mum,
the trugger shot is called Pregnyl or something like that, and it's given to trigger ovulation. Usually even when I have mature follies they don;t ovulate on their own, and this month it did! I'm axiously waiting now. I'm DPO5 and I need to get to DPO 14 before I should test. Fingers crossed! How are you travelling? How's everyone else?

    Hi all,

New to this forum, been TTC for 6 months but was diagnosed with PCOS 3 years ago. Started my first round of clomid (50 mg days 2-6) this month and am currently on cycle day 10. Don't really have my hopes up that this will work first time round but stranger things have happened. Did anyone else take the clomid from days 2-6 and if so what day did you O?

I have ovulated on my own in the past but my cycles were 60+ days long.

Booked in to have my CD 21 blood test but have had no scans, FS is just monitoring with bloods at the moment.

    Hi Hyperballed,

I take my serophene (same as clomid) day 4-8. I got some mad hotflushes but beside that it was all good. I was also monitored by blood tests. Day 21, 25, and 29. I found out today that I did ovulate but I don't know when I actually ovulated.. So my dear husband are just practicing every second night. My Dr is also putting me up to 75mg. To be sure to be sure.

Anyway good luck on your journey. And welcome to our thread.

Thanks for the welcome girls It is nice to have a little haven on such a big forum.

I am pretty much in the same boat as Katieboo, took provera to bring on AF and if 50mg does not work this time round, my FS is putting me on 100mg of clomid. I am really happy with his positivity and outlook.

    Fingers crossed for us all

    Hi girls,

did OPK today as Dr said if all goes to plan I should expect to O on day 13 or 14 of my cycle, I am on CD 12... OPK was negative, only a really faint line.

I am feeling twinges of discomfort around my ovaries, so I am just hoping something is going on!

    Default help!

    Hi everyone,

Well I am still on the first lot of clomid and I get hot flushes and very moody.
Last night I have noticed that under my belly I get this very funny pain, it was alright until this morning, before I left to work the same pain is back again. Has anyone had this problem before?
I am going to do my blood test on Wednesday.. I hope it going to be okay.

Hi Mel,sorry i didn't see this post untill now,how are you doing now?the hot flushes & moodiness is common i think,I get more severe ovulatation pain on the clomid but seems to be more to the side, hope it has been sorted for you, what cycle day are you on?How is everyone else going this time round?

    Default hmmmmmmm

I went to do my blood test on Wednesday. But I still haven't got any information to what is going on. I was told to see my GP and they will get a copy of the blood test or I have to wait until December 15 to see my Specialist in Hospital. I brought me a pregnacy test and I haven't used it yet, when should I use this?
On Thursay morning, I woke up and notice some strange colour liquid that is coming out from me, am I getting my period again? Its looks kinda like pinky colour not red like blood (this is soooo weird) I had my period on the second week on this month. So this is very strange for me

Has anyone had this problem before?

hi girls, well I don't think clomid worked for me first time round, I may have ovulated on day 22, which was on Saturday but that is hard to tell because my husband and I were both really sick with a stomach bug and my temps most probably went up due to that and we didnt get a BD in that day (but we did on day 20), so FF is telling me that my chances are still "good" but I highly doubt it. We BD'd every second day starting from day 10 right up until day 20 in hope of not missing it and just our luck we both get sick on day 22 and it may have actually happened.

Had my day 21 blood test and getting results on Thursday, I know they will not show ovulation as my temps went up on Sunday. Only time will tell, if AF comes I ovulated, if not I didn't or I am preg, not getting hopes up at all on the latter!
