How often do you empty them? Some sites seem to say morning and night, others say 4-8 hourly.
Depends on your flow. I go with a little less often than I change a tampon. I have a dry heavy flow, so I'd probably empty every two hours. Could get away with 3-4 but would have a very full cup, which is harder to empty.
Also, the LadyCup website says you can't have sex with it in... how do people go with their cups and sex? I would have thought it should be fine?
We have. Certainly not a very deep penetration (I have stemless MeLuna) but you totally can. Again, depends on the individual, where you're cervix sits etc etc.
I can't wait to use mine again because I HATE pads and so post partum bleeding with pads just sucks. How soon post partum can you use a cup with normal AF?
On days 1-2 when heavier I empty every 4 hours. On low flow days I empty morning, afternoon and before bed only.:

Also, not sure if it's related to cup use, but often I find I only have a 3 day period when using the cup. I used to have a 5 day period before so I have a feeling that the cup allows the flow out faster.

I have no scientific evidence to back it up - maybe my cycle has changed but I tend to bleed alot for 2 days, a smaller amount for day 3 and just normal end of cycle spotting after that.
I empty a lot more the first day or two of full flow, sometimes hourly. But I have a very heavy flow initially, to the point where tampons would be just about useless. The cup is still waaaay better. After the first couple of days I can get away with emptying morning & night.:
The FAQ's on the Mooncup website suggest that shorter cycles are common amongst cup users. Mine was never very long, anyway, so I can't back it up with my anecdote.
Where do you buy the meLuna cups from? Have been thinking about getting one. IM finding that I feel really dried out and IM overflowing tampons.
Just google them and go off their website, it's foreign but has an English translation. They're great, I ordered one cup, and they threw in a free one :) Just occurred to me that I'll need to buy new ones after this baby...two babies later and I'd say my cervix needs the size up lol.
Meluna are great, and my friends and I bought them and got free ones thrown in also. I have a few friends whose cycles are lighter since using the cup.
I agree that my AF is different with a cup. Not lighter - that would be too much to ask for, but definitely heavier initially then over faster.
I see Meluna do a sport version now.
Div - mine is a 34ml cup. If you know how heavy your AF is you can kinda work out how often you might need to change it. I only do morning and night after day 2. It's so much easier when you can just do morning and night.
Sex with a cup - i'm not sure how that works? Good on you guys for not letting that stop ya :)
It really doesn't work, but is technically possible. Maybe if you or DH like about an inch of fun...bahahaha.

Sorry MadB, I only just got my first one.
So I got a MeLuna and this is my first time using it. AF came today so I tried it out this morning. I did the fold it in half twice thing but could not get it right! It wasn't popping open inside and just staying folded in half. Then I worked out that it was sort of in beside my cervix instead of around it so couldn't open but I couldn't fix it, it just kept doing the same thing after trying a few times. So I tried folding it another way that I just made up, lol, and it opened up better. It's still sort of squashed, like oval shape now, is that right? Or is it meant to be like it looks like on the outside, i.e. round? There's no leaking happening so I guess it's probably right, although it's only just started so light anyway. Also, to get it to go around my cervix instead of beside it it's a lot lower than I expected, like it's hardly in there at all! Is that where it's supposed to be? I can't feel it at all though so it's comfy.
Which meluna is it Heaven? Soft or their traditional one? I have the soft and i find i have to fold it in 3 - like an S. It doesn't pop open like that inside - i can tell, because it comes out mishapen, like an oval.
I think the Soft is a bit harder to get the hang of because it is so soft. The other ones pop open easier.
Can't help MadB. You can get one with glitter, just for special occasions.

Thanks Lenny. It's the traditional one. I just emptied it and got it back in first time this time and it opened up properly straight away. I think maybe I just pushed it up a bit much before I let it open last time so it didn't go in the right place and got pushed up behind my cervix still folded iykwim. I can tell once I get the hang of it I'm going to like it much better than tampons already. Love that it's ok to wear to bed. And love not having gross string hanging out that gets pee'd on :rofl:

Hey I just realised...I bought my cups Pre children and got the smaller cervix version...I'll have given birth twice by the time I use them next...assuming I'll need to buy the bigger sizes, right? I have MeLuna's.
If you read the Meluna site, then i guess so, PZ. Maybe you could give it a try once you get AF back? Then if it doesn't seem to work as well, you can upsize!

Yeah, I think that's a sensible idea. I have two so they'd have to be retired which would be a shame.
Oh, that's an interesting thought! I guess it depends on what you're willing to do? Hmm I'll have a good think about this, there's got to be a way to recycle old cups.

I'm on day 4 of my first cycle using a cup (I got the diva cup) and I LOVE it!! I normally have to change pads every hour on my heavy days (And I'll wear more than 1 at a time), but I think the most I've checked is 4 times in one day and even then I could have left it longer. I only got anywhere near full on night 2 over 12 hours.
I feel so clean and fresh! On day 2 and 3 of my cycle (heaviest) I used to try my hardest to stay home because it was just so messy and uncomfortable. This time I went shopping and driving a few hours and didn't have to worry about a thing. I don't even feel like I've got my period at all which is awesome!
So far so good. I was surprised at how quickly I learnt to insert it and remove it, there was no pain or uncomfotableness (is that even a word?? haha) and other than the tiniest leak after wearing it the first night, I've had no problems at all. I'm really very impressed, especially seeming as I have never used tampons in my life as I felt they were 'gross' and uncomfortable and just didn't like the idea of putting something up there. Now that I've given birth to 2 giant headed children, I figured I couldn't complain.

This is my second cycle with mine and I have just realised I have had no cramps at all. So awesome!
Last day of cycle one for me... just spotting so I've taken my cup out to give my lady bits a rest.
HUGE SUCCESS!! Other than knowing it was in mentally and needing to check it as I wasn't sure when I would need to empty, I really felt like I didn't even have my period. It was that good! Felt so clean and fresh all the time, I did a PT session with it in and didn't feel a thing and didn't have to worry about any gushing in the middle of it. I didn't have to worry about how I got out of bed in case I gushed everywhere (yes it can get that heavy). This cup is going to make my life so much easier. I wish I had have gotten one years ago!

Do the cups work if you have a vaginal prolapse? Not major, but the vaginal wall is definitely slumped - would that affect the cup positioning/push it down?
