What has hapened to huggies?

Grrrr huggies! We use cloth but i still havent found a really good overnight nappy so are in huggies!
No leaks ever untill the new ones!!!!! i still have some old ones and the difference is no leaks! The new ones dont seem to be as absorbent? Also the seem to shrink, when wet???? At first i thought i put it on wrong, ds wriggles alot when i try to dress him, but its obviously the nappies 2 nights in a row of leakage!!!!!
I dont like the aldi ones, ok for day use but not night!

Not happy jan! I am already sleep deprived and now an extra waking moment to deal with urgh! Off to find a good cloth night nappy!

Another one in the minority here.
We use Huggies overnight and have been using the "new" ones for a few weeks now for both kiddies and the only leaks have been when DP has put DD's nappy on :rolleyes: and DS overnight sometime has huge wet nappies and still no leaks.

We use cloth but when I have used disposables I have found that the Natures Babycare ones have been great. They are stocked at our local Safeway (Woolworths) so they should be easy to get. I also have used the Seventh Generation chlorine free ones which I ordered from Nature's Child online and they were fabulous (although more expensive). So if you can't find the Aldi ones you might try these ones as an alternative.

Harrison has started to leak through his Huggies Nappies also!
This is the first time in 18 months that he has leaked through his nappies. I am really not happy at all, and I have been using Huggies (along with cloths) for over 14 years!
A big grrrrr from me! I think I will be popping them an email also.
As for babylove... we have bought these every now and then when they have been on sale and then thing I hate about them is that they really smell bad when there is the smallest amount of urine in them. Anyone else found this?

I just bought two huge bulk boxes of Huggies (cost me $100) and have found we are getting leaks...GGRRRRR, and Jack only sleeps 6 hours at the most.

I think I will be going back to Aldi's, their wipes are AWESOME!!:clap:

when i do sposies , its aldi , but ds always wakes with a wet singlet (tummy sleeper, so huggies work better for us )

but i do think aldi are ok , but i think the coles ones are crappy but i like the woolies select ones ..

and the aldi wipes are great value , but they are a bit dodgy , if you want one wipe you get 5 at a time , then you have to scrunch them back in the pack ... but we buy about 3 packs eack fort night , one for the bum one for the car and one for the house ...

If isabell didnt sleep thru, id change her nappy when she woke up, but she does, so i cant :( luckily when she leaks its usually only a tiny bit.

Renstar - I have only ever found the Aldi ones to be good once the girls were mobile. I tried the newborn ones and they didn't fit properly and nearly always leaked. Try them for yourself though as everyone has differring opinions.

I'm a huggies fan but I will admit that I haven't yet used the new design as I tend to stock up when they're on sale for $30/box. I'm down to the last box for DD2 so will find out soon enough if they're still good or not. I'm hoping they're on sale again in the next few weeks due to bub 3 being due soon... I refuse to pay $40/box.

BabyLove, Aldi and Snugglers... I'm not real fans but if the budget is tight I will buy them as a temporary replacement. DD2 likes the wiggles design on babylove and she also likes having wildlife animals on the Aldi ones (she calls them koala bum). I've always found it false economy with the cheaper brands as I will go through more of them than with Huggies and often have bedding and clothes to wash due to leaks.

Havent' noticed leaking but def noticed weird crystal - it's like the are thinner or something. I might ring this week!

As of tomorrow they are on sale at Woolworths $35 a box i think is pretty good.

I love Aldi but only used them once DS was about 4 months old. He has gone up a size before his weight reached the maximum but he is a very chunky lad and I found this stopped leaking.
I love their wipes too.

I stock up on the Huggies boxes when they are on sale too. The best price I wait for is $29.99 at Toys R Us.

Another Aldi user here too. DD is in their crawler ones and has been for a few months now. They are bulkier around the crotch than huggies but we rarely have a leak and she goes overnight in just the one. I do buy huggies when they have their super specials. I have 2 boxes of toddlers waiting for when she is big enough. We also love the Aldi wipes too.
Out of curiosity, when did the huggies change? I got my toddler size a couple of months back and hope they are the "old" design.

We use cloth almost all the time, but when DS does have a sposie on it's Aldi. I think they're better than Huggies for us. My mum has Huggies at her house for him, and he's been known to leak through them from time to time.

We used Huggies newborns alot when DS was little.......and he really was little, 5lbs1oz born, so they were the only sposie that came close to fitting him. Everything else was a big waste of time! Still, the Huggies leaked ALOT, and it was such a relief to get him into cloth (when he was a week old) and not deal with all the extra washing of sheets and clothes etc. I have heard that the Aldi newborns aren't as small as the Huggies, so for a tiny baby they might not be the best. It's really all trial and error!

Janie - i noticed that! The ALDI newborn ones are bigger than the Huggies ones (we have 1 huggies newborn nappy from our bounty bag). Might be also cos the ALDi ones go up to 6kg whereas huggies only up to 5kg bubs.
I'm gonna buy a box of huggies newborn aswell i've decided. then we're using cloth after the first 2 weeks.

Ren, you'll love cloth ;) You do have to get your head around it, I found, but once you do it's sooooooo much better. I was really tempted to put it off, because it all seemed too hard, but I was so over all the sposies leaking that I forced myself to get into it, and I was so glad I did!

I have bought a stash of BBH's already and they are just gorgeous but look way big for a newborn just yet (OSFM) and also invested in some Peapods!! Did my research on MCNs already, months ago, whilst waiting to fall pregnant LOL

Sposies will always be kept in our house though for 'backup'! emergencies etc!

Ren the bbhs fold down at the front for a newborn, so you only use the small insert and it folds down so there is two snaps, iykwim. If you have a 3.5kg baby it should be fine... not sure about other sizes though!

Yeah, there is no way I could have used BBHs on DS until he was at least 3 months!!!! We went flats all the way ;) and I love them :)

I have heaps of Huggies left over from my trip to Canada and I found they leaked at night, so I wonder if they changed the design everywhere.

I have always had problems with those silicone balls with Huggies. Always picking them off.

Aldi nappies I LOVE!!! I had been using them for about 7 months and they have never leaked and I have never gotten those silicone balls from them either.

That being said, I got fed up with the cost of sposies and made the switch to cloth. I will only use sposies if I go away for a weekend or such and need the convenience of throw away. I will def keep Aldi nappies on hand for those times. I love the wipes too. They are thicker than J&J but still that same soft texture. I always have thought the Huggies wipes are too scratchy and rough.

Not high enough and get looovely newborn poo everywhere....clothes turn messy...sheets turn messy.

Huggies is all i use for Newborn babies.

LOL Kim I found the exact opposite!! Huggies leaked every change and Aldi didn't. LMAO they must fit certain shapes more than others :dunno: With Matilda I couldn't use Huggies at all, but I didn't know about Aldi nappies at that time.

Ren I found the NB Aldi nappies to be great when we reach the "infant" size in huggies. The NB aldis I found to be a tad too big, but about the same size as teh Huggies infant size.
My best tip is to buy & try unfortantly its the only way you will finds whats best for you. If you buy while on sale thats fine, just don't open & keep reciepts. Buy a few small packets of each brand you buy in bulk that way you can try them out & if they don't suit you can return the biiger boxes you got on sale.

Also, don't rush out to grab them while on sale right now. Nappies go on sale all the time. I found that between woolies & coles I was getting sposies on sale each time I did my shopping.

What you should be looking out for on sale is MCN LOL

I've honestly never had a problem with huggies. I went through all the cheaper brands and they leaked and gave Aurelia terrible nappy rash. In the end I bought huggies and never looked back! Though I've noticed too that sometimes the absorbent crystals come out of the nappy, but they've never leaked and DD doesn't get nappy rash any more.

Has anyone actually emailed Huggies? If you did - have you had a response? I have just sent off an email and am curious as to what their response might be with this matter...

I remember a similar thread when Huggies changed their designs last time (from almost plain white to covered with pictures, plus the sticky tabs changed style). Someone had contacted Huggies and were told that it was probably just a matter of getting used to the new nappy.

My two cents...I've not had any trouble with the new Huggies and still swear by them. It's been my experience with DS that I get what I pay for in terms of nappies. I've tried Aldi (among others) and they were okay but I had a few leakages so I don't bother with them anymore. Huggies have never, ever let me down and I trust them absolutely.

I think Woolworths Select are worth a look, they can hold just about as much as a Huggies can and have coped overnight with no leakages...they just don't have an elasticised waist, only elasticised tabs, so will tend to sag if you leave them on a long time.

I use Huggies but buy when they are on sale $40 a box is a rort. I've used Huggies from day dot and have only had a coupla leaks, once it starts happening regularly I went up to the next size and had no problems. I did try some other brands but didn't want the inconvenience of messes if they didn't work. KWIM. I have been told by many of other mums of girls and boys that Aldi are fantastic, so might have to try them now that DD is in the bigger size.
I think the brand of nappy depends on your babys bladder size as well as body shape. Some might fit better around waist but not around legs and vice versa. Trial and error is all I can say. You could always email the companies and ask for samples...?!

RE: the newborn size Aldi ones. I found that they were really wide in the crotch so I never used them on bub as I thought it would feel like she was sitting on a horse or something. The other sizes in the Aldi are a better shape (like the huggies shape) and I found them to be good. No idea why their newborn ones are a weird shape. . .

I saw an ad for the new huggies and it said they have stetchier tabs. Wonder if they just need to be fastened a bit tighter now to stop leaks??? I always make sure the nappy barriers are pulled out properly around bubs bottom after I've fastened it and I never really have a leak prob with any nappy I use.

FJ - yeah i bought some BBH's on sale recently! :lol: i've stocked up on MCNs just need some sposies now.... might buy just small pack of huggies newborns and a small pack of another newborn brand and see where that takes us.... lol ikwym regarding the big boxes and being able to take them back not a bad idea if i have the receipt.

This thread goes to show how many different baby butts are out there!!! :lol: different shapes, sizes etc..... no nappy is one size fits all then! Trial and error.

Aha Ren, that's why flats are so good!!! You can fold, and put them on, the way that suits your baby best ;) So adaptable!

Yep, I agree with Cookiemonster. I love the Aldi nappies too and they are cheaper. Fraser often goes 8-10 hours a night without a change and I have had never had a problem with them. I'm not kidding, they weight about a kilo when I take them off him after 10 hours so they obviously absorb a lot of fluid.

I also dont like the huggies wipes either. I use the Woolies "Select" brand and find them awesome! They are only $18.99 for 480 of them too which is an added bonus. They come in a big peach coloured box. I had to use the Huggies wipes out of desperation two weeks ago and Fraser got his first nappy rash ever - not happy!

We sometimes use the ALDI ones overnight. They are really good for leaks, but they do smell (sometimes I think he has done a poo, but it's just wet & smells bad). They also go a bit hard when they are full.

We have had great success with the Babylove nappies. DS never leaks through them (and he does leak through the BBH bamboo & the Huggies).

Out of curiosity we bought a bag of You'll Love Coles nappies for our toddler... 44 for $15.98 so almost the same price as Aldi nappies. They are slightly bigger than the equivalent Adi nappy but I find they are "bunching" up inside when they get wet... whereas the Aldi ones just expand... don't bunch. So... while they are ok... we'll go back to Aldi until my toddler is a bit bigger.

Can't wait until the warmer weather to use more cloth!!! And to start toilet training (running around with just a training pant on.... at the moment there are just too many layers for my toddler to deal with... he can sit on the potty but by the time I strip him down he has done the deed).

Janie - i might buy a pack of flats see how they go..... do they come in the pack of 12 at BigW? just the terry flats you mean? How do you hold them together? I don't wanna use pins :redface: so do you use snappies?
So i'll have my MCNs, disposables and some terry flats that should keep me out of trouble :lol:

renstar - I bought a pack of 24 terry flats from spotlight when I had Nina which I used full time for the first 4 months. I used snappies with them. But now that I've found mcn, I wouldn't go back to flats. But that's just me.

I have friends who have used ALDI nappies on their boys and others who have tried them on girls and had a terrible time with them.

I have bought huggies and have noticed that they aren't as absorbent of late. I still use them at night but using Babylove during the day, although these are not that much cheaper and a lot less absorbant. They are Aussie owned though

I have gone through 3 boxes of the new Huggies and haven't noticed any difference myself, I've tried the aldi nappies and I thought they were good but DH didn't like it. Also I wait until the huggies are on sale somewhere for 30 or 32 dollars a box and then I buy a few boxes...if you do it this way the huggies work out no more expensive than aldi
