As the title suggests, I'm wondering what you wash cloth nappies in, and does it affect the absorbancy? (I've been washing in standard Omo). Can you use eucalyptus or tea tree oil?

    Cheers

I use either Omo Sensitive powder or Amolin or Purity liquids. Just use half or less what you would normally use. Personally I think its more important to not leave them sitting too long between washing, rinse the wee, line dry where possible.

We use a couple of teaspoons of bicarb or ecostore. You can use tea tree oil etc in the rinse or fabric softener compartments as antibacterial/antifungal but also helps with the ammonia smell.
Washing powders with whiteners in them are bad for the nappies but I think only fabric softeners and too much washing powder will effect absorbancy.

We use ecostore... But I'm about to run out and I won't shop at woollies, don't know what to do!

I use 2 squirts of Method laundry liquid. Lasts for yonks! And yep, pop your oils (sometimes I use vinegar) in the fabric softener compartment.
I also like to use an extra rinse cycle for the nappies.

I currently use eco store or method also.

Have just used water and bicarb in the past. Apparently the enzymes/whiteners in modern powders aren't great for nappies. I've used cloth for over 6years now and initially nothing was ever mentioned about the type or amount of powder. I used to use regular and have never had troubles with any nappies being ruined. Did have to strip wash a bit more often due to buildup, but that was no biggie.

Too much detergent can block up your nappies though and make them not as absorbent.

I have also used Charlies soap which was expensive and horrendous! Caused all sorts of yuck burns on her.

I use eco store too. You want powder that is phosphate free, I think.
You can also use a brand called "rockin green". Ive never tried it, but its very popular and sold on most cloth nsppy sites and in the nappy store I go to.
