Anyone else read this book? I'm just working through it now and it's AWESOME!

We're already on the GAPS diet which heals psychological conditions anyway but given that it is just food based and allowing the body to naturally heal over time I was kind of feeling impatient. I've been feeling really flat and I'm sick of it. I rarely seem to have much energy for conversations, making jokes, exercise, sex etc etc and I knew The Mood Cure outlined supplement protocols so I decided to get it and give it a read.

So after doing the quiz I'm now swotting up on my relevent chapters and learning what I need to do. I'm glad we're already on GAPS because it's definately a good foundation but I'm excited to give some of the supplements a go and focus on some of the food areas she mentions. Like, I didn't realise brassicas were bad for thyroid and I eat them every single day!

I think this book is much better laid out than the GAPS book and I love how she gives you very detailed plans for your supplements.

So anyone had sucess with The Mood Cure, or wanna join me on the journey?

Sounds interesting! I am trying to make my own sort of mashup of the GAPS/Nourishing Traditions diets because I was a vegetarian and I started craving meat and then read into it and liked the ideas but only want to do elements of them ITMS.
So what does it mean by supplements? Do you eat certain foods according to your mood to fix it? My problem would also be fatigue!!

It is about eating (and not eating) certain foods but also she's pretty supplement heavy, so various vitamins and minerals as tablets/capsules etc.

Basically you do a short quiz in the beginning and it tells you which of the four areas you need to work on. I failed all four of them but "Suffering from the blahs: Low in stimulating catecholemines or thyroid or low in natural stimulants like noradrenalin or thyroid" was my worst area so I'm focussing on that for now.

She then recommends testing you can have (or should have before starting some supplements) and then based on your pinpointed area you work through your diet tips and supplement regime. The supplements are really well spelled out with charts already telling you the dosage and one tablet at breakfast, one at dinner etc. There is a resource chapter to find practioners, food & supplements but it's american based so not so helpful, but the rest of the book is easily applicable to australia and you can find supplements that meet her suggestions of dosage etc.

I don't think I'll take all the supplements she suggests as GAPS advises against supplements due to the way they can put your levels out of sync so you should go for real food sources. But I think I'll do some of the remedy/short term supplements to try and boost my healing along. Some supplements she says you should feel better within 10mins or you take another dose. I like the sound of such speediness She recommends these remedy supplements short term- the goal is to heal the body with food & exercise long term, this just lifts you from your funk.

I have FINALLY got my supplements together and started taking them yesterday. The book was a great read and I can't recommend it highly enough for ANYONE who has ever felt the glums or low energy.

Now I am sure I have adrenal fatigue and I need to tackle that next...
