    Developmental Milestones in Prems

Does anyone have a chart of what prem babies should be doing for their actual/adjusted age?

Someone asked me when she should be sitting up, crawling etc and when to get help if she's not doing the action by then.

My reply was simply, she will do it when she is ready. Expect a 3 month delay.

But thinking about it now, I should roughly know when to expect milestones... Shouldn't I?

I'm not 100% sure, but I know with the Wonder Weeks book/app, it says the developmental milestones go from the bubs EDD, not when they were actually born. That's for term babies, I'm not sure if it would apply to prem bubs though, but to me it makes sense that it would. Have you got the app? Maybe give it a try (you enter bubs EDD and it shows you when each leap is coming up, tells you what's happening etc.)

Do you see a physio?? We loved ours and saw her every 2 weeks for a while, then once a month and we haven't seen her for a while now....

But, it was great to know where DD was meant to be up to and what to expect next.
    I'd recommend it.
We didn't have to pay for it at all, either.

Im not exactly sure the boys are 1 in less than 2 weeks. Jackson sits but lleyton doesnt, neither crawl so they are in a sense still like little babies especially since Jackson is still in 000 for most things.
Sorry i couldnt help but Miss A will do things when she is ready not when an app, text book, mchn or any nosy neighbour says she should.

    I can't find an app :-(

It would just be nice to know what to expect from her around what time.

I do agree with this. However, the great thing about the wonder weeks book is that it discusses development in all areas not just gross motor skills. The leaps occur at roughly the same age for all babies, but may manifest in different skills.

We've always been told to go by adjusted age with development, until DS1 turned 4 and then they stopped adjusting his age.

FWIW, DS1 didn't roll until 9 months (birth age) he then crawled at 10 months and 2 weeks later he started to sit, it was just boom boom boom, once he started to realise he could move that was it!

Also, when she does start to move expect that her weight will taper off too, my boys plateaud and didn't gain much at all between 12-24 months.

At 6 months birth age, I wouldn't expect her to be doing too much atm, especially given her start in life. Enjoy her while she's little and I totally agree with the when shes ready bit, she's a premmie... they all do it when they are ready Even as they get older.... LOL.... it's always on their terms!

i probably should be helpful with this but im not all the milestones of different kids blur into one, having said that my latest to start walking was 16 months and they were all atleast sitting and crawling by 10 months, and my earliest 2 were 8 and 10 weeks early at 1.5 kg each

Serenity, both our DD's were born around 35 weeks. Do you know about delayed development for bubs born at 34+6/35+1?
