Mums of premmies, what did you need?

A friend of mine is having a baby within the next 3 weeks and she is currently 29 weeks pregnant. She's in the UK so I can't help her in the normal way, with meals and lifts to the hospital, etc. Those of you who had a baby at that gestation, what types of gifts were helpful to you? I was thinking some premmie clothing but I'm not sure how much demand there is for clothes when in the NICU or do babies just wear nappies? Would I be better getting clothes for once the baby is ready to come home? Or is there something else you might have appreciated in this situation?

you are an awesome friend thinking of your friend like this. dont worry about clothes- they dont wear clothes until they hit an open cot anyway which could be like 6 weeks away. save the clothes for when bubs is at home
anything that will help take care of the mundane normal tasks at home would be good.
if you could gift her a service, then that may help- such as a cleaner, dog walker etc
otherwise- fuel voucher- driving back and forward to hossy everyday if its a distance gets $$$
a giftcard with some $$$ on it so if she wants snacks etc from the hossy she doesnt have to have money on her
a session with a LC for her to use whenever she is ready to help her when bubs is ready
a subscription to a magazine- so many lay hours just sitting
a gift subscription to her local breastfeeding assosiciation
even a delivery of some fruit or a fruit basket to home so they have something to eat at home
a journal to right things in- you forget so much when you are living through the experience!!!
hope these suggestions help and let us know how your friend goes!!

what wonderful suggestions, I think a fruit basket might be the best. She is a midwife and has had a premmie before so is experienced in all things breastfeeding/expressing and I wouldn't know how to organise a fuel voucher but a hamper would be well received I'm sure. Thanks for your suggestions!

I've found a hamper place where you can pick your own ingredients so once the baby is born I will send her a basket with oranges, mandarins, kiwi fruits, mangos, chocolate dipped fruits and some fresh fruit juice. Hopefully it will be appreciated by her other children if not by her

    Hamper is awesome.

I recently had a 34 weeker. My bff's were all at least 40 min away, have thier own kids and like everyone this winter were sick. The best thing they all did for me was let me vent be angry cry on the phone and got excited when I was. They lifted me up when it was all getting to much

OLP I'm with you. My 33+6 week twins are now almost 4 weeks old (next Tuesday).

The best things have just been having someone to talk to, cry with and basically just someone to say it's okay and just listen. Sometimes there is nothing someone can say that can help you when your baby or babies are in SCN
