oh i have been wondering they they are doing.
wow that is great that she is off cpap already! i read Bretts last msg that they were hoping she can be transfered soon, gosh it must be tough. i understand it would be terribly hard for you to see your little neice after what you went thought with Lachlann. Poor Braedon missing mummy, must be hard on him too.
send my best wishes and i hope Aurora can be transfered closer real soon.
Im going well thanks for asking, was like a huge sigh of releif after D day! i had and OB appointment today and everything is looking good. On another course of anti biotics which ive been on monthly for the last 4-5months.
i just started getting sick again have a terrible cough atm and really affecting my sleeping ability.
so is there a genetic link there between PE & HELLPS? with you and your sister?
I thought PE doesnt commonly return in subsiquent pregnancies, or was it a higher risk for re-occurance?
-
Oh boy is there a genetic link Nic, my mother had it with my brother and sister and my grandmother had it with two of her five pregnancies. So far though Dannii is the only one that had developed HELLPS though, I think she was told after Brae was born that there was a 60% chance of her having it again with any subsequent pgs.
It's kinda funny in a way when I was in hospital before I had Phoebe the Ob's and physicians at the RBWH explained the whole PE thing to me and the main focus was put on my weight as the main contributing factor they went on to tell me all the others but not once did they mention any genetic predisposition to the condition huh!!
-
My dr told me HELLP was one of that freaky things that can happen to anyone - genitic I am not so sure! I tried to google, but the dr-talk is over my head! So if anyone understands the stuff- please translate in english! (As far a I can understand they can't say yes or no)
-
O yes, he was very clear about it not being a thing that you can avoid. In your case being overweight should not be the reason (so was explained to me - about HELLP)

hi guys I just have a question my baby is 10 weeks old 2 weeks corrected and is starting to sleep longer over night and has to be woken up for his 4 hour feeds should i start letting him go longer? Should i wait till he gets hungry and how long should i wait? should i just start treating him like a normal newborn and go with his cues?
I would love any opinions :)
thanks

nay,
I think it depends on how much he weighs. If he is over 2.5kg, I would say leave him and see how it goes. If he is under, I would wake him up till he is over 2.5kg. I would wake him if he sleeps for longer than six hours through the day, but at night, he can sleep as long as he likes.
Hope this helps

Hi nay! Congratulations on the birth of Linkoln, I didnt know you had gone early until just now!!
My son is 8 weeks old, 4 weeks corrected. I really never considered him to be a premmie baby when he was born. Lucas had gastroschisis and needed an operation immediately after birth, so I was going to be induced at 37 weeks anyway so in my mind he was only a week early, and HUGE at 2.6kg compared to the other bubs in NICU. He is now 3.7kg. Anyway it’s only since bringing him home that we realised the importance of going by his corrected age. He still feeds every 2-3 hours, so I wouldn’t let him go longer than 6 hours between feeds.
I think alot depends on Linkoln's current weight and there is a way of figuring out how long he should go between feeds by going off his weight. I’ve had a look for you around BB but I can’t find it, may have been another site, or maybe the other mums here might know.
Congratulations again.
*big love* to all.

thanks for your advice he has put on heaps of weight and now weighs almost 9 pounds (i dont know what that is in kilos) he seems really happy to wait the 4 hours at night but still feeds every 3 hours during the day. I might ring the SCN and check with them if its ok or not.
Take care all

Thats awesome nay, it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job and that Linkoln is going great guns at 9lb which is about 4.5kg. If he feeds alot during the day then genrally he will need to feed less during the night, but yes checking with the nurse is a good idea as I'm no expert except for my personal experiences. But to me it sounds like 9 lbs for 2 weeks corrected is great! So happy for you and your fam I'll have to backtrack a bit and catch up on his birth story etc.

9lb is about 4-4.1kg mark i think so thats great!
i would let him sleep during the night for as long as he sleeps for, if he is hungry he will no sooner wake and want a feed.
congratulations anyway, why did Linkoln make an early appearance?
-
Nickers-I just wanted to say congrats on making it to 35 weeks, this baby will be a biggun. Are you going for a natural delivery??
-
oh thanks Ashlee!
yep i am going to try for a vbac fingers crossed! but im a bit more open this time on how things dont go according to plan so understand if i end up with a cs i gave it my best shot!
its weird i cannot imagine having a big baby like over 8lb or anything, dh rekons he is going to be a 9lb ahh!
How's little Blake going? he looks very gorgeous in your avater!
-
Thanks! He is going well, such a big boy now, 5 months and 8kg, 69cm long! He's rolling both ways, has given us a couple of giggles. He's teething at the moment and it's absolute hell, waking up at least 3 times a night!!!!!
-
wow he is a big boy now! and 69cm too!
i hope those teeth cut through soon for him and for your sake too!
This thread has been quiet for a while, i hope that means all bubs are doing well.
Nixon was recently sick with swollen glads and ear infections. He did not really eat for a week and lost 0.6kg. He doesnt look sickly skinny or anything but his face and legs definatley went noticably skinner.
He is eating again but starting to get to the fussy stage.... oh i used to have such a good eater please come back!
Got a referal for a hearing test which i will book in soon. Im confident his hearing is fine but his last test they recommended a follow up test and seings as dh was born with some hearing loss better to get these things checked out.

Been meaning to post here but madam hasnt given me the chance.
Rori is back on cpap after crashing once she was in SCN but now is back in NICU. On the plus side though(last I heard) she was 1.7kg so despite the little setback she is still gaining weight. Her Dr seems to think its the CLD thats causing her breathing difficulties and she will likely go home on oxygen. Dannii was hoping to be home but these things happen and they wont transfer Rori until she can be safely left in SCN.
Brae is on school holidays and is arriving today at my house sometime for a couple of weeks of pure unbridled feralness to get it out of his system. Poor mite has had to be on his bestest behaviour being at the rons house. Not much fun for a 4 yr old! I love it when he comes up but I love it when he goes home too lol He's a monster but love him to bits!
-
oh poor Dannii bugger they haven't been able to transfer yet.
But whats important is Aurora's health so i suppose it is for the best. Thats great she continues to gain weight and hopefully the cpap might come off again soon.
Thanks for the update and send her my best wishes.
Have fun with Mr Braedon!

Just for those who developed PE/HELLPS there are other posts about possible genetic links - search for them...
-
Nickers, well done...I can't believe you're so close to EDD!!
haven't posted in here for ages...Gemma is 14 months now, just over 12 months corrected, and is nearly caught up to normal standard. She is about 9 kg, still very petite overall but has grown a lot in height. She is a very active crawler and I hope will start walking soon! When I think where we were a year ago, it all seems like a bad dream. Things are so much better and happier now, for everyone :)
