Bugaboo Donkey?

Just bumping this thread. It's with great sadness that I've almost conceded that we will have to sell our gorgeous, beloved Stokke, and in my hunt for a comparable double pram, the Donkey Duo has been the only one I would even remotely consider buying. I am pretty devo to be selling the Stokke, I live it to bits and I'll really miss having bubs up high, but it's just not realistic for me to imagine carrying either DD (who will be 18 months) or the newbie while the other chills in the pram.

Does anyone have the Duo? What do you think about it? How does it handle? Also, can the toddler seat face backwards as well?

Both seats can be turned either way :) I had fun playing with one a few weeks ago in Baby Bunting :lol:

Good! DD and baby must be facing me, that's a biggie for me, so there's one tick for the Bug. I'll miss the height though (boohoo :p ). I like that it can convert to a single(ish) pram for when I am carrying piney, which will be a lot in the first months. Luckily the Stokke is quite new still, it'll almost completely finance the Donkey, although I'm not sure how much they are? The Stokke was $1600 new so I'm hoping to get 1k-$1200.

my only concern is the width TBH. i am not sure that it will actually fit through our front door :o we live in an edwardian terrace and i have a feeling that it wont be a wide enough doorway in duo mode (we had a play with the donkey yesterday....TOTALLY fabulous lol). also, my other concern is that we live in northcote and we have all the dinky tiny street shops with dinky tiny doorways. i am thinking that i wont be able to even get in them :dunno:

arrgghhhh! so hard! it is so beautiful and handles so fabulously, but if i cant actually get into my house...what will i do lol??!!

oh, and it doesnt have a transport bag :( we do alot of air travel i so dont want it to get smashed.

can someone tell me if their duo gets through doorways and what kind of doorways it doesnt go through?? TIA!

PZ go onto the babyshop dot com website. I want the Mono and I looked last night and it was 900 euro so $1100ish AUD inclduing delivery to Aus. Lots of ladies have bought them from there and said they are great to deal with. It will end up saving me about $500ish on the mono so def worth checking it out for the Duo.

I've got the duo and I have to say I'm really, really happy with it. It handles fabulously as a single and as a double. You can face both seats both ways too.

We live in an old Victorian house and I had the same concerns as you about being able to get it in the front door. But they are made to standard door size and ours just fits in the front door, and our house still has the original door. I've also not had any problems getting in and out of the shops in our area (old inner city shopping strips). They have the dimensions on the bugaboo website so maybe check the width and measure your door.

melbel: haha, yeah the shop assistant here in the states told me that lol! but the stokke bag is like $80 more!! i guess i will have to suck it up and buy it though hahaha.

Stalking with secret jealousy! I have a baby jogger city mini double which I LOVE but I wanted a pram where bub can face you...poor kids can only look out. But they love it and it's an awesome pram...

I find handling a double width pram tricky in small shops and I only take mine out to certain shops. If I'm going into the city I take the mclaren and a sling (or dd walks).

My double is also designed for standard doorways and its not getting into shops that's the issue, but often maneuvering around because small shops lack their merchandise in.

I took my Peg Perego Skate in when I went to buy the Donkey & it was no wider than that! Which fits through standard doorways without an issue!

Only issue was the shop assistant told me it would fit my Primo Viaggo capsule and it doesnt, so ill be using my skate frame occasionally too, mainly on weekends when I have 4 kids to lug around!

can i just ask how much the donkey (in duo) retails for back in Aus? They are selling them here in italy for $1000 euro which is roughly $1300AUD. but i am not sure that i wanna cart it back home...but for the cheapest price i will :rofl:

About $1600-$2000 depending on the store and sales etc. have known some girls who have bought it online in duo for $1350 delivered

We paid $2000 for ours, but that was when they first came out in Australia. You certainly can save a heap by buying it overseas, but be aware that it comes in like 4 boxes (we couldn't fit them all in the back of our 4WD). I have no idea how you'd go about lugging it back to Aus on a plane and you would pay a fortune in excess luggage. You could ship it, but you'd need insurance etc and I think it would be exxy. Somewhere in this thread someone was talking about an EU website that ships to Aus for free, that could be a better option.

Buying one O/S will def be cheaper....to transport it back I would be assembling it and buying a stokke pram pack to transport it in....that way you pop it n the plane as part of your luggage allowance as you are allowed to carry a pram in addition to your normal suitcase weight allowance. Here in duo or twin mode you getting close to the $2000 mark.

Duo plus shipping is 1100 euros, around AUD $1375, from babyshop... Hmmmmm.... Tempting!!

who has actually bought a Bugaboo from Babyshop? DH and I are thinking of getting the cameleon from there. It's pretty cheap at Baby Bunting at the moment but don't want to store it for 6 months... or even 3 if we lay by... so knowing I can get it cheaper online is comforting! But just wanting to hear how people found the service and if the warranty is still valid in Aust?

Bugaboo is the only pram that has a world wide warranty except on its US models, so dont buy from there, but anywhere else is fine. I am on an Australian bugaboo facebook page and heaps of people have bought from there, no one has had a problem......delivery is in the three week timeframe to be on the safe side, some have got their prams earlier than that even. Very ocassonally they may go out of stock but they always let you know straight away and what the time frame is, most of the time it has only been an extra couple of weeks....hope that helps!

It seems that Babyshop have upped the price lately and it is now $1339Euro...which makes it roughly $1600...

really? i was looking at the duo?? black base...just had another look and yep, still coming up at $1339. i wonder if my search being here in italy makes a difference?? weird! because i remember it being the $1100 price when i was in the US and looking....

One thing I just thought of too, was if you have to pay GST when you import it, as it's worth over $1000 AUD. Can anyone comment??

Cassius you are getting the price including VAT. The euro version of GST. That's why it is Showing up as more expensive. As for GST on imports no one on the bugaboo page has been charged as yet....it comes in two boxes, one the base unit and one the duo extension kit, so seems to miss the eagle eye of customs! If you wanted to be sure, you could always order he two bits separately a few days or so apart, would mean two shipping fees though.

I will be purchasing the Bugaboo Donkey Twin tomorrow via babyshop.com I've been a bit nervous but sent them an email with a few questions and they were really helpful and great.

Cost for the Donkey Twin is 1,191 euro plus 29 euro shipping so 1,220 euro total which is the equiv of about $1,518AU.

So considering the Twin retails here for $2,199 - I'm still saving myself $700AU!

As I'm only 23 weeks ph do you think it is too early for me to be buying a pram? I really want honest answers here please. I'm having twins and it's been a tough pregnancy wi TTTS etc. I've been feeling more positive but I'd hate to buy the pram too early and have something go wrong! Througts?

And yes as soon as it arrives I'll let you know how the experience was/ is all turns out.

TTL: you can never go wrong with a bugaboo! Of course i cannot give advice re preparing with twins, but 23 weeks sounds fair, especially with shipping times etc etc.

Ok I am going ahead with the order - i had one last question.

It seems the maxi cosines car capsule is the online that actually fits onto the Donkey frame. And the maxi cosis have been recalled and who knows when they will be available again.

I actually prefer the peg car capsule but it doesn't attach to the donkey frame so my questions is - how importnant is it for the car capsule to be able to attach to the donkey frame do you think?

hmmm on that one i dont know! and need to know lol! are all the maxi cosi capsules being recalled?

I would think that it would be integral if you wanted to use it that way ITMS. it needs to be able to be clipped on.

The donkey had not been released when my boys (1 and 3) were little but I used to attach the capsule to the cammy and I loved the convenience . If I had another bub and used the donk then I would def want a capsule that attaches.

I think you're right about the Maxi Cosi being the only capsule that fits. But I hadn't heard anything about a recall? Can you tell me a bit about it, I'm a bit worried now cos we have one...

I just found this after googling, it seems the recall was quite awhile ago and a different model to what they sell here in Australia. The one that I've got (and I'm pretty sure it's the only model that meets Aus regs) is the Titan

the AU maxicosi mico seats have been recalled just rceently because on the new 2010 standards compliant capsule the tether strap is attached to the capsule meaning you have to totally remove the tether strap from the anchor bolt and from the car every time you rmove the carseat...they are redesigining this......

I'm pretty sure the recall isn't the maxi cosi mico 2011 model ones only 2009/2010 models? I may be wrong tho. They just stopped stocking them here and releasing a new model in julyish (or just released maybe?), called Titan.

melbel is 100% spot on. I actually managed to track down the GM of maxi cosi today and he was brilliant on the phone.

The current maxi cosi mico was recalled about 3 weeks ago due to the tether strap issue. He stressed to me today, it's not a safety issue, but a design fault - eg the capsule doesn't do what it was designed to do - get in and out of the car easily without completely undoing the tether strap.

Currently, they are redesigning them, then they will need to be retested and manufactured before they are available again. And at this stage he was honest and said they had no idea when that would be. It may be 6 months or it may be longer:(

So there is no maxi cosi capsule available to buy in australia on the market currently. Unless you can find a second hand one somewhere.....

Frustrating they can't even say when the new model will be released

Huh! Well I have a good mind to give our local baby shop what for! They said they didn't know why they were not doing the mico anymore, assured me it wasn't a recall but we could get the equivalent model in July!

I know this is a bit off topic from the donkey but I'm still confused: has the maxi cosi mico actually been recalled in Australia or have they just stopped selling it until its redesigned? I couldn't find any info on a product recall on their website

They have just stopped selling it.....

As gar as I cam ascertain they withdrew all current stock from all australian stores, and offered any customers that complained about the tether strap issue making if difficult to use etc - their money back. They had no problem with taking them back from customers...

AP I would be putting some serious pressure on your local baby store to prove to you how they know they will actually have a maxi cosi for you in July. Ever store I have spoken to (all around the country) as well as maxi cosi themselves - have not been able to give me a date on when the redesigned models will actually be available back in stores. The stores I have spoken to said they will be offering their clients with maxi cosi lay buys etc other models such as the peg Viaggio.

I have now ordered my Donkey (very excited about that:) but am freaking out about what to do about capsules???

I think I'll have to give up on the maxi cosis - I just don't reckon they will be ready before my babies are born in sept.
