Yeah they did go on to try to force the s&s unity on me if I was wanting one now, After me saying about the crash rating getting 1 out of 5 compared to the maxi cosi's 4.5... The worst bit is they are normally really good, I must have gotten a dodgy sales person... Looks like we are getting the peg perrigo one, those r the only 3 that fit our pram!

Sorry to bring the discussion back to the Maxi Cosi, but I am really confused! From what I can tell it's being recalled because you have to remove the tether strap to take it out of the car, correct? But from what I know, all capsules in Australia work that way. We had a SnS Unity with DS1 and had to do the same thing. I was under the understanding that the tether strap was a requirement for Australian Standards and that is why many of the European and US models don't meet our standards. So I can't see how they could redesign it without you having to undo the tether strap and still have it meet our standards. Even when we moved DS1 to the SnS Meridian we still had to loosen the tether strap to get him out....
It has been recalled because the tether strap was actually permanently attached to the capsule,I.e. stitched on, so that you had to actually undo it from the anchor bolt to remove the capsule from the car.....it was only only on capsules made to the new standard so only a few had been sold. They removed all stock from the shops and although it has Not been widely advertised if you are unhappy with yours they are giving refunds. This is not the original micos just a few that we're in the latest design release.....basically someone stuffed up in the design.....who wants to have to cart the tether strap around with you when the capsule is not in the car.
Oh and the word on the grapevine is that the new safety first capsule might just fit onto the maxi cosi adapters making it a possibility for the donkey....fingers crossed because it rates highly in the CREP tests.
can someone explain customs taxes to me? I am going to buy the Cameleon from a before mentioned website but I recently read on a FB page about people paying a customs fee or tax? It hadn't occurred to me and I can't figure out the fees which of course I need to include in my calculations of if it is cheaper to buy online or in a shop...
Thanks for clearing that up. What a massive design flaw! I can't believe they actually went into production with them. Mine definately doesn't have the tether strap permanently attached, so I guess I don't have to worry.:
Mother Goose someone mentioned a Facebook group page earlier that might be helpful. Apparently noone has been charged GST yet, and if it comes in more than one package then customs may not catch on!
Mother Goose my Donkey is en route to australia and as far as I am aware no one has yet reported being charged the Duty or import tax on the the pram - that I've heard of anyway:)
I will keep you informed on my progress when it arrives - but I'd say this would e quite hard to calculate without knowing exact number of boxes it comes in, how the value of the pram is 'reported' on the accompanying paperwork etc. My DH works closely with shipping and freight around the world - and he seems to think we shouldn't have a problem just based on the nature of the product. However in a week or so i will be able to tell you exactly how it all goes for me! Fingers crossed! If we did get charged - I reckon it would be about 10% of the purchase price of the pram...

I just wanted to give you a quick update - have my Donkey arrived today from previously mentioned overseas website purchase. I am assuming the other half will be on it's way (I've emailed them to check but I'm not too concerned - yet) I've been really impressed with the service and follow up and shipping took approximate 9 days from order.
I didn't have to pay any tax or import duty (well yet anyway! :)) and I have no complaints. I guess best of all if it ends well - I've saved myself $800 on the Donkey Twin.

Update - for all but specially Mother Goose.
The second box of my Donkey arrived today. Haven't opened it yet but all seems perfect. The online store was amazing with service when I emailed and said I was missing a box - tracked it down for me, told me what was happening - awesome.
Anyway - no tax or duty or any extra charges - I'm one happy camper:) If they sold maxi cosi car capsules to Australian standards I would be in seventh heaven! Hahahahaha

Hi guys I bought my donkey from babyshop which is based in sweden but a week later they stopped being able to **** to australia. Some moron got on bugaboo's fb page and opened their trap saying why would we buy from them when baby shop in sweden is so much cheaper!!! Bugaboo have now stopped them shipping here :( I'm so glad I bought mine when I did!!!

I'm on a fb page called bugaboo pramaholics and literally the day after mine arrived, they put their orders in and then got an email saying they couldn't ship to Aus :(

Shame about the o/s website. Why would someone post that, although they do have a point just ruined it for the rest of us. Maybe try in a few weeks...?

I bought my maxi cosi capsules last week from a shop in perth. Got the Mico in black because it fits better on the bugaboo adapter for the Onkey - than the Titan and I prefer the look of the Mico anyway. The new one is black and white and the hood provides great coverage when it's not in the car and it's on the pram frame.
I personally wouldn't buy a car seat on an OS website and now that maxi cosi have rereleased it in australia again - there's really no need to! Think I paid about $440 each including them installing them. The new ones have the detachable tether strap and seem great

Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy the donkey from? Shattered the O/S website stopped shipping here! I've requested to join pramaholics on fb but waiting to be accepted. Anyone with advice I'd greatly appreciate it, it's such a lot of money for a pram any discount would really help.

In the end (due to my lack of great timing :wall:) i had to buy the donkey here locally (bah!) and for the duo i had to pay $1799. such a rip off in comparison to the rest of the international market (the US sells them for $1500 directly from bugaboo website). Babyshop is still the cheapest but yeah, they are not allowed to sell ANY bugaboo product to Australian customers :( (i asked about the adaptors etc as well).
Watch this space I am considering selling my Donkey Twin - it's brand new - it looks great but its justbtoo bigbto be practical:(

Ttl will you be planning on selling your maxi cosi capsule or just getting another pram to match? I think they are the capsule that we want... So many decisions but I'm pretty sure they go well with the baby jogger prams.
thankfully the maxi cosi capsules fit many prams...that's why we started looking at other models.

I'm on a bugaboo fb page and as far as I know all companies have stopped being able to ship to Aus because the ban was put in place by bugaboo Australia because it wasn't Australian compliant.
Girls, try Baby On The Run in the States. I bought my City Select from them in 2011 without any issues. So did one of my besties. Rick was fabulous to deal with and he has a sneaky way of exporting his prams to Aus :D
I'll also be in the lookout and crossing my fingers we find somewhere cheaper online. I'm hoping to sell my lovely Stokke soon to help fund a Donkey (just waiting on the a-okay from DD2's hip scan in a few weeks, because there's no way a dysplasia baby is fitting in those seats).

I finally got my pram...took them like 7 weeks after telling me it would be 10 days :rolleyes: i bought mine from babiesdirect. they were crap. never ever again. they didnt respond to emails, were late beyond late (but charged me straightaway!) then sent the WRONG accessories (for a completely different pram :wall:).
babyshop from europe on the other hand were able to send out other things that i bought within 3 days and i got them the following week from ordering lol. wish bugaboo didnt shut shop on international orders. but i guess they double their point of sale price doing that.
Yay for your new pram Cassius!!! I LOVE mine :) Although today was the first day I lifted it into the car - wow its heavy! I haven't been able to lift it before because i've either been pregnant or recovering from my C-Section. DH goes back to work on Thursday so I thought I better give lifting it a go!
